The Doctors Disagree and Will Kill No More Suakes at Sutherlin Institute. Some days ago the Sutherlin Institute for the euro of inebriates, located in the o'd Alex Thomson place, just south of the cit.y, closed down nnd Dr. Sutherlin, the head of the establishment, returned to his native jungles in Ladoga. It was given out that all the bottles of the bichloride of gold had frozen up tight and wouldn't thaw until spring Consequently the work of hyperJermic injection had to stop because there wasn't a single itient no matter how badly he wanted to be cured, who cared to have a chunk of ice slipped under his skin such a morning as this morning, for instance. The wood house was nailed up, the cat, dog and patients turned out on the mercy of the c. w. and tho doctors went their way. Yesterday, however, Dr. D. D. Kiddle, the partner in the concern and joint high healer, brought suit in the circuit court to have a receiver appointed to toll off real estate, furniture, syringes, testimonials, etc., and divide up.

Mr. Kiddle's complaint is to the effect that the institution was not operating on a paying basis. l'"or awhile it was a great thing but finaily Crawfordsville's crop of beer bloats aod whisky guzzlers ran short and they were prevented from carrying the harvest into other fields from the fact that every iield in a radius of 000 miles had a Keeley cure machine running at full capacity and eminently capable of caring for the yiold. There are said to be other considerations, however, which entered into the breaking up of tho Sutherlin tern peranee revival. Dr. Kiddle failed to get-along with his partner for various reasons and finally insisted on a settlement and breaking up. In future all persons desiring to be cured of snakes will have to go to Waynelowu on the west, PlainUeld on tho east, LaFayelte on the north, or Ladoga on the south. Von pay your money and kill your snakes.

Dr. Burroughs at Noblemllc. Dr. Burroughs preached at the Presbyterian church of Xoblesville last Sunday and among other things ijiiscd •St,000 for the new church edifice they are about to build. He evidently mad, a very excellent impression as the fol lowing from the Xoblesville

In both of his sermons were evidences of the ripe scholar, of broad and liberal culture, of deep Christian pietv and of a comprehensive view of life and its duties. Being the president of large and growing college he is deeplv interested in educational matters and of course visited our high school this morning He was highly pleased with onr city anil enjoyed bis visit very much and it is hoped that he may soon visit us ngain and do as much good as ho did during his short, stay with our people.

... JKo Fishing. Mention has been made of the prosecutions instituted by Stale Fish Com missioner Dennis against farmers along the Tippecanoe and Wabash rivers, charged with seining fish out ot those streams along the borders of their prop ert.y. These proceedings have just been thrown out in the Carroll Circuit Court on the technical ground that the allidavits did not charge the farmers with having the semes in their possession for an unlawful purpose the court holding that unlawful purpose could not be pre sumed. The action of the fish commis sioner in bringing these suite has, how ever, had the effect, of stirring up the farmers of lhat vicinity wonderfullv and they now propose to post tliei farms Kith signs "no fishing," and to make it lively for the many lovers of the sport who come from IjaFayetto, In dinnapolis, Chicago, and other large places, to camp on' along the Tippe canoe and Wabash and (ish.—

THE EDWARDS ESTATE.

An Interested Party Wants to Know Who "Ivia Edwards" Is. .. To the Editor of the. Journal.

CHICAGO,

.Tan. 11, 1893.- In the

Commercial Gazette,

of Cincinnati, un

der date of Sept. 29, '92, appeared an article in which was stated that one William Edwards, of Greensbuig, S. C., had found the lost lease of the late Kob ert Edwards, which lease was found to have been recorded in England and that he had secured a certified copy of same on payment of 8100, the required fee. Much has been said, written and published about this immouse estate, estimated value 8100,000,000, but nothing definite looking to an early settlement with the heirs seems to hove boen accomplished. One Ivia Edwards has isited Crawfordsville and Mace on two or three different occasions claiming to be an heir and that he was now as he had been for years, working with the property holders in New York to bring about a settlement by compromise of this estate. During

IN

in Edwards' first

isit to Crawfordsville and Mace he left the impression with the heirs residing in Montgomery county that a compromise had been agreed upon and that the money be paid over about May 1, '9'2. May 1, '92 came and went and nothing more was heard of the compromise or money until his late visit to Mace when he gave out that everything was worktig nicely and that a settlement would be made about March 1, 1893/' Tile leading and all important question is, who is this Ivia Edwards and what interest has ho in the estate or heirs? The fact that he seems to aave no permanent ubidiDg place, no postolfice address, is calculated to cast a shadow over his movements and put at a very large discount any statement he may make regarding the estate. The writer addressed a letter to him at Xenia, O., where he claims to hail from and also wrote to the postmaster but no information of Ivia Edwards was received, while the letter was returned, marked uncalled for." Who is Ivia Edwards? \s he has not in his visits to Montgomery county asked for or claimed any money on account of service rendered, or to help pay his expenses he c.anni well be Bet down as a fraud or impostor.

He is a mystery and time alone can and will develop his true character. Curtis Edwards, of Mace, had uu uncle Curtis, who left many children and grandchildren, among whom are Curtis O.F.dwards ot Chicago, Mrs. M. E. Uolabivd and Mrs. C. A. Lyford of Cincinnati, Mrs. Jas. H. Forman ot Mew Albany, and many others who have never been visited by Ibis said Tvia Edwards and that absolutely know nothing about him. It is natural therefore to inquire how Ivia Edwards expects to effect a compromise of the Edwards estate and have money deposited for the benefit of heirs until consent ot majority of heirs has firsi been obtained. Let Mr. Ivia Edwards show his hand if he would have any confidence placed in his statements.

To Preserve Pianos.

Tollic Ivlilor'J'hc Journal. On my last visit to Crawfordsville I observed several tirst-class pianos in very bad order, caused by use of natural gas. Ii, furnishes a dry heat which shrinks the TO'd and pulls the glue apart, thus loosening piano actions, splitting the sounding boards, even causing the eases to become unglued. wish to make a suggestion to those having instruments! I am here working in a piano factory and have consulted the best of authorities and finel if you place a 'mwl of water jnst back of your piano a room heated by gas and let it stay during the winter months it will contract tho dry heat, cause a im.isture and preserve yout piano in better shape. Plants kept in a room helps tho piano, also. Should you neglect it, only experts can inedy it at the factory. Hoping this may be a benefit to some one, I am
