"Look me in the face! My name is •Might-have-been!' I am also called 'No-more,' 'Too-lalc,' 'Farewell!'
The poet who wrote theabove, must have been in the last stages of consumption. Perhaps he had only learned, for the first time, that if he had taken Dr, Pierce's Golden Medical Discovery in hie earlier illnoss, ho would never have reached his present hopeless condition! What can bo more sad than a keen realization of what "might have been?"
Physicians now admit that consumption is simply scrofula iu the blood attacking the lung-tissues. Itisnever safe to-allow, the blood to remain impure, and it is especially reckless, when such a pleasant, harmless remedy as Dr, Pierce's Golden Medical Discovery will drive every taint of scrofula or.impurity from the system, causing a current of healthy, rejuvenating blood to leap through the veins.
in Grippe.
During the provailence of the grippe the past seasons it was a noticeable fact that those who depend upon Dr. King's New Discovery, not only had a speed recovery, but escaped all of the troublesome after affects of the malady. Tlub remedy seems to have a peculiar power in effecting rapid cures not only in oases of la grippe, but in all diseases of throat, chest and lungs, and has cured cases of asthma, and hay fever of long standing. Try it and bo convinced. It won't disappoint. Free trial bottles at Nye & Booe's drug store.

DAILY JOURNAL.
TUESDAY. JAN.TO, 1893.
A Quiet Meeting of the Oouncil. The Crawfordsville city council met in regular but uninteresting session last evening. Nothing of importance was done and the adjournment occurred st an early hour.
A petition was presented asking fur an electric light north of the Monon station near the fill. It was referred to the committee on petitions and overtures.
A proposition to stop the practice of having the city do the wiring for consumers o£ electric light was voted down, those voting against it .explaining that no change ought to be made until the present dynamo iB used to its fullest capacity. There is room on it for about one hundred lights,
The contract ot the Peoples' Natural Gas Company to furnish fuel for the electric light plant was renewed on the same terms as last year.
The Clerk'd rej o.t eluwed that he had examined the Treasurer's books and found them square to cent. It was the semi annual settlement between the Clerk and Treasurer. The tax duplicate of 1892 showed that $3(3,(i72.(i8 had been collected and that $3,682.18 was delinquent.
The City Commissioners made their first report on the opening of Hocum and Plum streets. The property owners along the proposed extension of Hocum street have been notified to meet with the Commissioners on February 22, and of Plum street on March 1.
The Treasurer's report showed $1,11)13.03 on hand Jun. 1. The report ot the electric light superintendent showed the net cost of lighting the streets for December to be S2,r)-1.7i».
Councilman Myers nominated Dr. Keegan for City Health officer. Mr. Yanarsdall nominated Dr. Hatchings and Mr. Smith nominated Dr. Leech. Before a vote was taken the champions of the various candidates tried to boost up their favorites by charging that all health officers had tailed to perform their duty. Finally tbey ail agreed that this was true and proceeded to reelect Dr. Hutchings by a vote of three to two for Keegan.
A precept for $89.75 was issued in favor of contractor Maurice Carroll for work done on Anderson street in front of the property of W. N. Ireland and wife.
The electric light report showed the following new consumers and number of lights taken by them: Henry Brown 4, Dr. W. B. Cnambers' residence 8, Dovetail factory 27, Ernest Dorsey's resi ilenc'0,7, Indiana Wire Fence Co.'s office 0, C. O. McFarland's residence 11, A. F, Ramsey's residence 20, Stephen Stillwell's residence 12, Gus Truitt's resi denoe 13, Dr. Totten's residence 10, John Williams' residence 8, Col. A. A. Sprange's residence 9, Poutioue A- Lacey 13.
Council adjourned to see "The Kid.
Trouble in Logansport,
A natural gas war is on at Logansport. The company has been subject to considerable abuse from the citizens and is now squaring the deal. A large number of consumers, during the oold spell, bored out the mixers to increase the supply of gas. The mixers are the property of the company, and persons guilty of boring them out, not only forfeit the right to use gas, but are liable to prosecution. The company's inspectors are making a tour of the whole oity taking out ^mixers wherever they were tampered with, add it is intimated that many will be without gas, and also place themselves liable to legal punishment.

A Oity Puzzle.
The answer to the follawing puzzle will be given in a subsequent issue See if you can guess it:
There are four prominent buildings in Crawfordsville, used for similar purposes and built of similar material, standing exactly in a square, and each a square from each of the others each occupies the 6ame relative position in the block, They were built at different times, but in rotation around the square, and also in the order of their importance and value of location.

Rev. 0, A. Penniman Spsaks On the Tenth Anniversary of His Marriage, The following from the Kansas Telephone will be of interest' to the many friends of Reverend and Mrs. O. A. Penniman, ot Garnet, Kansas:
On the Sabbath preoeeding Nor. 9th, Rev. 0. A. Pennimen, pastor of the Congregational church, -of Garnett, Kansas, at, the close of the morning services said, "Next Wednesday evening is the tenth anniversary of our marriage, and we invite the members of the church and congregation to come out to our house and spend the evening. Now this is to be no tin wedding heralded by finely engraved invitation cards and to be followed by a cart load of tin household gooda and an elaborate course of refreshments, for there is to be nothing of the kind, but every one come and have a good time." Well the people took the pastor and his wife at thoir word and they filled their cozy little home to overflowing. A choice pro gramme of music had been arranged in which a number of Mrs. Penuiman's pupils and others took a part and also Mrs. P. favored the company with some of her best selections, vocal and instru mental. Mr. Penniman being called upon for some remarks, in substance, said: "Ten years ago and a little over was a candidate—for matrimony. It gives me great pleasure to state to you to-night that I was elected by a handsome minority. At one time it was difficult to predict just what the result would be. And at one time I thought I would not even get the nomination, because it was in Indiana and everybody knows that "from away back" Indiana has been a doubtfuP State. But I attended all the primaries and conciliated all the opposing elements and when the ballots were couuted I was declared the choice of the convention. On November 10th, 1882, there appeared in the newspapers the following notice:
MAIUUED—On the eveuing of Nov. 9, at Center churoh, Crawfordsville, Ind.,by Rev. J. P. Stratton, Rev. A. O. Penniman and Miss Eva li, Cumberland." It was rainy evening but nevertheless the wedding was the most pleasant wedding I ever attended. The ceremony was very impressive. I won't confess that I was embarrassed and nervous while it was in progress but I will acknowledge that I can't remember one single thing I promised to do, though have been trying to carry out my agreement ever since. All I can recall is that I answered 'yes' to every [uestion that was put to me and I firmly believe that Mrs. P. returned the same replies to the questions that were put to her, at any rate I always try to make her think she did. We went to housekeeping at once and what a royal time we had of it the first year. I remember being told one morn hj th it some beeswax was needed. I went to a store and inquired for some beeswax and on being asked how much wanted I replied, 'I guess a dollar's worth would be enough to commence with.' It was, as I learned when 1 returned home. You see I made up my mind at the start that I'd be a good provider. Upon one occasion the Presby tery was in session and when noon ar rived I took a dozen of the brethren homo with me to dinner. It was Mon day and wash day. I don't remember what those clergymen got for dinner but I distinctly recollect what I got after they went away. Before that oc cfision I thought I was proprietor of the whole establishment, but after that I concluded I had only held a half interest and at times it was good policy to only assume the role ot a silent partner.
Ten years are.now passed an eventful ten years. We have had our troubles, our disappointments, our sorrows. We have also had some cloudless days, iys of exaltation and of joy there are bright spots in the retrospect in which we arc1 permitted to indulge ourselves to-night. Aud it we are permitted to add another ten years to our married life I am sure we will look baok with great pleasure to this friendly greeting which you have extended to us this evening. May our joys be yours now and always."
After Mr. Penniman had concluded W. P. McDonald stepped forward and in a happy speech presented them with a full rigged ship made from tin. It was constructed so that -articles could be dropped down through the cabin into the hold. This little craft was well ballasted, not with sand or pig iron, but with silver dollars, and as far as this case was concerned free coinage was voted a success.
Orran Eecital.
The Young Ladies' Missionary So ciety of Centor church liavo secured Miss Emily Allen to give a recital next Thursday evening at 8 o'clock. The a Jmission will be 25 cents. This will be a rare treat and the church should be well filled with the lovers of good music.

An honest Swede tells his story in plain but unmistakable language for the benefit of the public. One of my children took a severe cold and got the croup. I gave her a teaspoonful of Chamberlain's Cough Remedy, and in five minutes later 1 gave her one more. By this time she had to oougli up the gathering in her throat. Then she went to sleep and slept good for fifteen minutes. Then she got up and vomited then she went back to bed and slept good for the remainder of the night. She got the croup the second night and gave the same remedy with the sume good results. I write this because I thought there might be Borne one in the same need and not know the true merits of this wonderful medecine. Charles H. Thompseen, Des Moines, Iowa. The laws of health are taught in our schools bnt not in a wuy to be of much practical benefit and are never illustrated by living examples, which in many cases could easily be done.
