BURGLARS FROM A30V1
They JJesc3nd Lisa Angels But Go Through Mc'Olure & Graham's Start We rarely look up-vard to see signs of burglars but there are exceptions to nil rules and one was made last night at McClrire ,fc Graham's Trade l'ulace. When the store was opened this morning it was observed that the beautiful snow was filtering down fioin above wiih as much grat'e and beauty as it ever filtered down from the Hies of Music Hall during the presentation of Lost in Now York. A glance upward explained the peculiar stute .of affairs. It was then seen that, some individual or individuals had removed the trap do ir by the skylight on the roof ami had neglected to replace it. The burglar theory at onco suggested itself and proved to be entirely correct. The ollice of the establishment hud been entirely overhauled and every drawer and pigeon hole ransacked and rummaged.
From the till several dollars in silver had been taken but most of the cash had been locked up in the safe before closing hour as it all will be hereafter The burglars did not attempt to open the safe and so far as is known did not disturb the stock although they might nave taken a number of small articles without the same being missed. The? had evidently entered the old opera house block, gone up in the third story and crawled out onto the roof of the
Trade Palace. The entrance was easy enough and the sailing plain. It was undoubtedly home talent and moreover home talent that was entirely conversant with the situation. The police are looking out for the i-erpetrators of the crime and expect to land them in jail ipiite shortly.

The Oouuty Commisaioaoi's. Road Superintendents and Road Bcrapsrs Scored. To ihe K,liter toth»'.hiirmil.
There is much being said just now about making and re-pairing highways, and 1 have no doubt that good results will follow the discussions made the Boad Congress at Indianapolis which closed Thursday.
It was attempted lo have all HUjiervisors and road superintendents attend the Fanners' Institute held Nov. 25 and 2(1, aud discuss the best and some uniform way of repairing the gravol roads that have cost the people who have built tiiem so much money anil the repairs which cost entirely loo much money for the benefit received. But notwithstanding that the most of the superintendents were notified either personally or through the newspajiers, aud each of the Board of Commissioners was notified personally there was but one commissioner, Mr. Fullen, present and not mora than two or three superintendents were there to discusB or hear what might be said on a subject which they aud the public are or ought to be so much interested. It may be the Board of Commissioners aud road superintendents have not the time or inclination to attend these meetings. If not they have not the time or inclination to make good road superintendents. I have stated at all times and places that one of the greatest enemies of the old established gravel roads is the grader, the way many of them are now used. It is absolutely destructive to the toad to scrape the dust and dirt from the side to I he center of the road. Why Because the crushed gravel and dirt that waslie to the side ditches, if the road is a proper grade, is dead and has no power to form ement and thereby improve the road. aud the first rain that follows the scraping will couvert it into mortor. which ...

Poor Will Harness.
Will Harness, the greatest ball pitcher Wabash College ever had, is dead. The details of his sad accident last spring are familiar to oil. The following is from the Logansport
Jnurnal:
Will J. Harnes, a well known Cass county school toucher, formerly of Galvestion, died at Kokotuo Monday evening, aged 2!) years. This is a sad death Mr. Harness had a promising fulure be fore him. He was finishing his education at Ann Arbor and intended devoting his life to teaching. While at college ho was a great favorite and leader in athletic sports aud a valuable member .if the ball team. While playing the
Philadelphia team at Philadelphia he •v.is accidentally struck on the head with a batted ball. The injury was a painful one but was not at first considered serious. Later, however, his mind became deranged from the effects jf the blow and he was compelled to givo up his studies. For a time h« was confined to a private sanitarium at In lianapolis, but his condii ion wits considered and pronounced incurable and the past year he had spent with a relative at Kokomo. He gradually declined physically as he had mentally, and death came Monday.
Went Up After Ail.
Theodore Barfeit, the man who was jailed for public indecency, was ar raigned before Judge Langdon this morning on the charge of petit larceny for having stolen a dollar from Gil's Holler. He pleaded guilty.' and was sentenced to the penitentiary for one year. Judge Langdon said lie could make it a jail sentence, but as the pris oner had already stolen from one of the pritoners at the jail, he thought it best to send him to the penitentiary. Several judgments were entered in claims!
ifui!lit' Courier.
Barfeit is well known hi re and during the fair was arrested with one of his pal for stealing a revolver. The, pal was sent up for a year hut B.irfolt, was ex cused. When the Crawfordsville press mildly suggested in its poor weak way that it wouldn't have boon amiss lo have sent Theodore up, too, that gentle man became highly mcensed and throat ened to sue for damages. He cin: con sider the advisability of such a step during his term.

The laws of health are taught in our re- schools but not in a way to be of much practical benefit and are never illustrated by living examples, which in many cases could easily be done. If some scholar, who had just contracted a cold was brought before the school, so that all could hear the dsy loud cough, and know its significance: see the thin while coating on the tongue, and later, as the cold developes, see tho profuse watery expectoration and thin watery discharge from the nose, not one of them would oyer forget what the first symptoms of cold were. Tho scholar should then be given Chamberlain's Cough limwdy freely, that all might see that even a severe cold could be cured in one or two days, or at leaBt greatly tniti-
