In a short time he started to return home and found that some one had taken a fine bear robe out of the buggy. Oierk's Union.
The Clerk's Union was orgaiii/.eil and ollicers installed last evening. The objects of the order are the benefit of the alesmen and salesladies of C'rawfords ille without in any way antagonizing the interests of the proprietors as will lie seen by the following declaration of principles: 1. Our principles are honorable, humane and just, namely: Karly clositig or day light purchasing, and abolishing all desecration of the Sabbath, and to secure equal pay for etpial work, whether done by man or woman: to secure and maintain employment for members in good standing.
No clerk has a mortgage on his or her situation, and as the majority of the cities and towns Bre organizing it is necessary to be a union clerk to gain and hold a situation. 3. We believe in protecting the interest we represent, and enact no laws whatsoever that are detrimental to the interest of our employer.
Harvest Home Entertainment, Last night Capt. FI. 11. Talbot and wife gave a harvest home, entertainmeut to their neighborhood friends at their home west of the city. An elegant supper was spread after which some time was devoted to various amusements. Then followed a vsry admirable and pertinent literary program at which the following papers were read and dismissed: eorge Smith, "Good Ikmds a Civilizer." eorge Urittou, "The Horse and Ho'v to Care for llim" Bodie Swank, "Out of Door Sports": Mrs. (leorge Smith, "The House Wife" Mrs. George Britton, "House Plants" Miss Dora Sidner.
The affair was a most eujoyable one and should serve a precedent to the whole country. Neighborhood gatherings of this kind would not only forward social intercourse and establish good fellowship among neighbors bnt would also cause the dissemination of useful knowledge by reasons of the discussion of the paperB read.
Lotns Olnb Meeting.
There was a good attendance at the Lotus club last evening und considerable business of importance waa transacted. The committee on location will make its final report by next Tuesday night. It now has several places under consideration. The rooms over Music Hall are receiving the attention of those who desire to rent property, while those who desire to own property are divided between the Braden place on east Main and the vacant lot just east of the Dokerty place on east Pike street. In case of the purchase of the Braden place it would bo made to front on Pike and the east Main stroet lots would be reserved. The Pike street portion ou which the residence stands is offered for So,000. Several methods of acquiring it have been advanced but it is doubtful if it is taken. Last night committees on furniture, heat and light and amusements were appointed with power to act. The club numbers 70 now and is limited to 75. It is decided to hold in the near future a benefit entertainment at Music
Hall, which will be participated in by home talent.

THE REVOLT OF MOTHER.
SIH CH I Wlint Sli«» IVaiilcil. Though She I'loliithly I'hUI for It The being1 known to fame and his friends as the "mean man" was on a train tfoing out of Jersey City the other afternoon. So was that depressed individual. the menu man's wife. And there was also the loud-voiced vender of comic periodicals, "all the latest, novels." and other valuable literature. This last-mentioned person made his way Utroogh the car, scattering his Sifts right ami left with the lavish hand for which he is noted, and to the mean man there fell a comic weekly. He was able, so says the New York World, by dilligent reading, to gel through most of the jokes before the return of the newsboy. Me read the last page while the newsboy waited and then• politely returned it. Meantime the down-trodden wife gazed wistfully at the "gay sheet, bnt that was a matter of no importance to her lord and master. He folded it and handed it back. Suddenly a gleam of determination came into the eyes of the lady, and she beckoned the disgruntled caterer to the traveling public's intellectual want*. "I'll have that paper.*' she remarked, clearly, while thunder clouds of wrath gathered on the mean man's brow.
Then, as she settled herself to its perusal, she added, with an attempt at carelessness. "Have you ten cents, .Samuel? 1 haven't/'
Samuel produced the coin in ominous silencr, and they rode on. And the men who saw applauded "the revolt of mother," but the women whispered:
