Considering the miserable weather a very fair audience witnessed the presentation of Siberia at Music Hall last night. The performance was a good one and the heroic lines were very admirably executed. —The stone traflic of the Monon out of the Bedford quarries this year largely exceeds in tonnage that of any former year. A Nuisance.
Every time Music Hull is opened to the public a jrowd of loafers gathers around the entrance like bugs around an electric street lamp. The older ones stand there like blooming jays and stare iit those going in while the "kids' amuse themselves by fighting and Bwearing and getting in overybodv' way. Isn't it about time this nuisance was stopped Has the theatre-going public no right which the hoodlum is bound to respect? We respectfully re fer these questions to the miinagetnent of the house and the police.

A VANDALIA. AGENT.
Wcat a Woman Oan Accomplish if She Has Ability, Tact and Jfluok, The Vandalia oflicials recently had application from Miss Minnie C. ltusli, agent for the company at the little town of Lakeville, ten miles this side of South Bend, on the Logansport division, for an "Old Home" excursion to Ohio points. The company was not disposed to give it, but the plucky little agentpersisted in her application, saying there were many persons at and near Lakeville who formerly lived in Ohio who wished to visit their old homes. 'The company after much persuasion on her part finally gave its consent and the excursion rate was announced. Imagine the surprise at headquarters when Miss Rush reported the sale of 359 tiokots. Her exoareion train was .filmed over to the Ft. Wayne road at Plymouth. That young ladjr will be a general passenger agent some day at the present rate. It is amusing and very odd to see Miss Itush out among the tracks at train time, telling the train crews what work has to be done, where she wishes cars placed for loading, and other work that has to be done at a station. It makes no difference how lnte a train may be when it reaches her station or how muoh work there may be to do, she is a favorite with every trainman, and the work is always cheerfully done at once. A few weeks ago Miss Rush had issued invitations for a large party, the occasion being her 18th birthday. As usual on that day the 5 o'clock freight was two hours late.
#The
station was de
serted by all but herself, and she had no way to send word to notify the folks at home that tho train was late. The guests were to arrive at_ 8 o'clock and the suspense that she would be too late was terrifying. At seven the ioug wished for train arrived and she was congratulating herself that she would yet have plenty of time, when she was notified there were thirty barrels of sugar to be unloaded at that point. The train pulled out. the 6ugar was on the platform. A slow drizzling rain began falling which would soon ruin the sugar if lert out, and in one hour she was to be the hostess at home. She did not sit down and cry in despnir, however, aB would most girls under such trying circumstances, but rolled every barrel in the freight house by herself and was home in time to receive the first guest with her always happy smile, as if nothing had ever happened.
COMET Or UNIVERSAL INTEREST.
It is Snpposed to be Biela'e and May Pass Very Jtfear the Earth. Snnday night, November 27, promisee to be illuminated with meteors in great number. They are the so called November jinetoors, coming from the constellation Leo, a beautiful group of stars, of which six are disposed in the shape of a sickle. It is from the region that the bend of the sickle half incloses that the meteors seem to issue. Once in 33 years they pour forth from this space in amazing number, their tracks raidiating like the ribs of an umbrella and resembling a fiery sprnv shot forth from some celestial fountain- The last shower occurred in 18CG. Accompanying these annual visitors will be a stranger. Last evening a dispatch was received at Dudley Observatory by Prof.
Boss from Prof. Berberich, of Berlin, stating that the new comct discovered by Holmes in the constellation Andromeda may be the long-lost Bella's comet. This comet was originally discovered in 1772 by Montaigna. Its periodicy was established by Beila in 182G. Its successive appearances were watched with great interest, but its position in prox imity to the sun prevented its observation on several of its returns. As time goes on the meteors are stretched over a larger line, and if Prof. Berberich should prove to be correct in his surmise that the Holmes comet may be none other than Bella's comet, or a fragment of it, there is a good chance that we may be treated to a nearea view of it this
year
because this comet is moving along the track of Beiln's comet. It is a fact that the earth has collided with several small fragments of comets, represented by meteoric showers, and while they have done no harm, to collide with a body so large as this known to be might be a serious matter.

Special to tho Journal. ADVANCE, Nov. 18.—Tuesday night
the Democracy in this end of the county met here to celebrate tho result of the recent election. Whisky was freely imbibed by several of our sports, and as usual a fight was thought just the thing. Charles Taylor, of NOT^ROBS, was over and as soon as the boys found him they wanted to mutilate him. Charley was tanning them as fast as they came to him until the Davis gang came up., He fairly powdered James, when the old man piled on and held Taylor while Jake struck him three blows over the head with a 2x4 scantling. Charley looked like a bloody butcher and blood was gushing from his head in torrents. He was picked up unconscious and taken to the home of Charley Sparks, just south of here, and medical aid summoned, but of no avail. Ho is still unconscious and is now in a critical condition.

To Our Readers.
We cannot too strongly urge upon our readers the necessity of subscribing for a family weekly newspaper of the first class—such, tor instance, as the Independent, of New York. Were we obliged to select one publication for habitual and careful reading to the exclusion of all others, we would choose unhesitatingly the Independent. It is a news paper, magazine, and review all in one. It is a religious, a literary, an educational, a story, an art, a scientific, an agricultural, a financial, an insurance and a political paper combined. It has 32 folio pages, often increased by from 4 to 12, and 20 departments. No matter what a person's religion, politics or profession may be, no matter what the age, employment or condition may be, the
Independent will prove a help, an instructor, an educator. Our readers can do no lees than to send a postal for a free specimen copy, or for 25 cents the paper will be sent a month, enabling one judge of its merits more critically. Its yearly subscription is S3, or at )hat rate fcr any part of a year.
Address the Independent, P. O. Box 2787, New York Oity. Sulphur
