AN ANTI-CA.TH0LIC CRUSADE BY DEMOCRATS. A Catholic Republican of this city has banded Trn'. Jm'itNAL a copy of tLe '.Catholic Columbian, a religious paper published at Columbus, Ohio, from which we glean the fact that Clevt-land and Stevenson and the rest of the Democrutic ticket carry Franklin county, the county in which Columbus is situated, by about 1,'2U0 except two men._ There two exceptions were the candidates for
Infirmary Director and Coroner, who ran behind their ticket about 3,500 and 4,000 respectively. The secret, of these two candidates being so ruthlessly slaughtered by the Democratic voters of Columbus lies in the fact that tlev were members of the Koinan Catholic church. The returns sliow that tliev "were beaten in Democratic precincts and by Democratic votes. And yet the Catholic Columbian supported the
Democratic ticket and threw whatever inlluence it possessed in favor of (irover Cleveland and his colleagues on tha ticket down to the lowest local candidates. It opposed the Republican party because of its alleged prescriptive methods and policies, but out of its own mouth it convicts the party it supports with using "ignoble means," circulating the "foulest calumnies," stirring up "religious animosities" and "to crown their work of infamy"' it charges the circulation of a private circular which was "in line with their Jirtv work
What is true of Columbus is true of the Democratic party generally. The great bulk of the Catholic vote is Democratic. That party uses its votaries to be "hewers of wood and drawers of water." It is true in this county as the past will show. Call to mind the names of John 12. Hanna, Michael Lane, Mich nel Price, Patrick Slattery. .Tames Bren nan, Frank Wren and others. Each and all were slaughtered in the house of their friends simply because they were Irishmen and Catholics. At the hands of Republicans not only in this county but everywhere else, the Irishmen and Catholics have not been compelled undergo the humiliation of proscription because cf their nulivilv or religious be lief.

The result of the election is a to both parties. Before the el, inch side was confident, but both con coded that it would be a close contest Not one of the managers in either po litical party looked for such an electoral majority as Cleveland will have. For instance Illinois and Ohio were fair! conceded to Harrison, while Iowa and Nebraska were confidently claimed by the Democrats. In Minnesota the fu sionists expected four electoral votes California was conceded to the Repub! cans as WUB also Wisconsin, and the Populists expected seven or eight States west of theMiasissippi. It is unnecessary to say that in all of these Slates there were both nurprises and disappoint ments for all parties. The result proves that in these days neither logic nor arithmetic can be used in making up political prophecy. And to say that the Domocratic party has returned power to stay is but idle talk. At the next election the Democracy may be swept from power by majorities as stu p^ndous as were the lk-publicans 1892. If is not safe therefore to pre diet the future of political parties.

IVHV our State will lie benefitted and the welfare of our people augmented. I sincerely hope that the county an municipal governments will earnestly render the cause every assistance possible, and that the Congress may be attended by representative men fro.n every locality of the State.
Tnr. Democrats are jollifying to-day and every mug that backs a horn wears a "ive-dime it" sort of an expression beautiful to behold. If the Democrats over the country had done no better than those of Montgomery county the tlat fisherman at Huzzard's Hay would never have been recalled from his pleasant pastime. The Democrats had the county polled nearly 175 Democratic.
