Miss Steveusou Joyfully Welcomed by the "Stmt For and Couldn't Ootue Club."
Another neophyte stands at the portal of "The Sent For and Couldn't Conn? Club" having made miserable failure in her effort to climb the golden .stairs.
Soino weeks ago Mrs. Elmer Marsh who has apartments over Smith's drug store took Miss Annie Stevenson in out of the wet, so to Bpeak. Annie came hero from Marion about two months ago and having corved at the LaVeta restaurant and tlm, Null House for a few days wan tur.K-d ].is* to seek other pastures. Annie found a homo with Mrs. Marsh who wanted company then put her feet under the table and smoked about tivo boxes of cigarettes a day. Annie is a dear, sweet girlie girl but she is prone to sti'Ver from the blues occasionally after an unusually large •ibund nice of iiguretleH, and last evening she went oil' the handle completely. .She grew quite despondent in the afternoon and started out about 5 o'clock purchasing morphine at three different drug stores. She took all she bought at one dose in the presence of Mrs.
Marsh und stated that it wns medicine. She then started out with Charley Crider, and was soon brought back us limp as a dish rag. Dr. Taylor was summoned and although the girl ul first refused to receive medienl assistiu
"Yes, I meant lo die," said she, with a gladsome giggle, "and I am going to make sure work of it us soon as I can get well enough to get some more poison. What do I want to live for when those folks down in that restaurant are talking acout mo? Charley Crider wns in here when you newspaper folks came up stairs but he went shooting out of the buck door. He don't want me to die and is ready to cry about it. Charley is a good friend of mine, but I'll have to leave ovon that dear, sweet Charley boy. I came here from Marion but used to live here about three years ago. I'm all right but as I lon't care to live 1 guess I will die. I suppose I belong to the suicide club now, but if I thought you would roast me like you did the rest of the girls and hoys I'd throw this apple ut you. l'es this hair is mine and I bleached it all by my lone lonely." During Annie's farmer residence hero she was head soldier in the Salvation Army.

As there iB considerable talk as lo where I stand in the present campaign I take this method of settling all questions. I am opposed to the present tax law lam opposed to the infamous gerrymander whereby a large portion of the citizens of the State are disfranchised am opposed to returning to the wild cat banking system. I am satisfied with the present administration and believe that the country is now in the most prosperous condition it has been since JTcan remember. I therefore declare myself for the American eagle, General Harrison and the entire Republican ticket. JOHN H. DOWN

The Musical Amateurs held the regular meeting at the First Presbyterian church yesterday afternoon and were quite gratified with the large attendance of active and associate members. Owing to the nuture of the society it is not desirable'tbat visitors should be present and members are not expected to invite their friends, other than those who are visiting from abroad. However much they may desire their frienus with them it has been considered best lo draw the line at this point. We hear much of the duty of wn to alwas greet their husbands with smile when coming home tired from their work. There is another side to the picture. If husbands would only realize the thousand annoyances incident to housekeeping they would feol it just as much a duty to do all they can to make life pleasant for the hardworking wives. Many a wife is a sufferer with dyspepsia, constipation and sick or nervous headache. In such case go to the druggists, Moffet Morgan and get a fifty cent botle of Los Angeles Raisin Cured Prune Laxative which is a cure, safe and plonsBnt cure.'
