During the war Calercott was cook for Captain Herron, now a banker at CruwfordBville and for several terms treasurer of Montgomery county. Captain Iiorron was one of the Seventy-second Indiana, as also was HI-, lleed, of this city, and Calcercott was an interesting, character to every member of the regiment. When the war'^closed C.ilerco't took up his nboda in Lebanon, Tenn., and resided there until ho ciitne here several veare ago. One day Mr. lteed wanted some work done and he employed Calercott, whereupon a conversation arose about the war. Calercott remarked that he would bo so glad to meet a meinbor of tho old Seveutv-second, and especially bin old friend Captain Herron. Then came about recognition between the two, and both were happy in the dis covery they had made. Mr. lieod told

Calercott that his old captain lived in Crawfordsville, and the next dav the colored prophet journuvud to the 1 loonier Athens in transport of joy. Their happiness at meeting was mutual. Captain Herron'a kind heart went out in tenderest sympathy to his old cook He took Calercott to his home, dined h'm sumptuously, and placed a gold coin in his hand just before they parted company.— La Fai/rtte Conner. $100 Ucwartl, $100.

WILLI AMS'XEPLER.

A Happy Marriage Consuuiated on South Washington Street Last Evening. Last evening at the residence of Geo. Kepler on south Washington street occurred tho ceremony which united the lives and fortunes of Jesse Williams and Miss Ada Maude Kepler. The lawn was prettily decked out in Chinese lanterns of unique designs and the rooms of the rosideuco were decorated with the most beautiful (lowers, vines and bright leaves. Promptly at 8 o'clock Miss lint tie Buck, who ollicinted at the orgatii began playing the well known strains of tho ever beautiful wedding march and !he wedding party entered the parlors where fully one hundred invited guests were assembled. The bride, a beautiful young lady, was attired in a handsome gown of white silk and oarried a large bunch of bride's roses. The groom was attired in conventional black B3 was his best man, Mr. Vernon B. JShurritta, of Uomney The maid of honor was Miss Letitie Roult. who looked most charming in a splendid dress of silk lansdowne. The ceremony took place under a floral arch and was performed by Rev. G. P. Fuson, of the Baptist chnroh, in a most solemn and impressive mnnner. At the conclusion of the ceremony congrnnlations were extended und elaborate and delicious refreshments were served the guests, who remained until quite a late hour. The presents to the bride were both numerous and elegant and made quite an imposing exhibit. The whole affair was both a brilliant and a pleasant one und will long be remembered with pleasure by those present. Mr. and

Mrs. Williams are both possessed of hosts of warm friends here and are deservedly popular by reason of their many admirable traits of character. All unite extending to them the most hearty congratulations and the wishes for a long and useful married life. They left to-day for a trip to a number of Indiana cities and upon their return will be at home 10 their friends here where the groom holds a responsible position with the Monon railroad. The guests present from out of town were: Miss Spalding of Greencastle, G. R. Williams of Terre Haute, Mrs. M. D. Jones of Lebanon and V. B. Sherritts, of Romney.

JUDGE BALDWIN'S BRUAK.

A Wanton Insult to a Class of 600a For-

eign Born Citizens,

A special dispatch to the Chicago liter-Ocean from Milwaukee under date

October 25 g:ves the following juicy account of Judge Baldwin's political blunder at that city: "The whole State is talking nbout the bad break made by Judge Baldwin, of Indiana, in his speech at the Standard Theater, tinder he nuspicea of the Democratic Stale Central Committee. The chairman of the committee went into a comatose condition when lie Lloosii orator warmed lip and began to talk about the 'lousy Italians and lousier Poles," who, declared, were not wanted in this o.motry. When he made this statement the members of the Eleventh Ward

Democratic Club, composed largely, of Poles, arose as one man and left the hall. To-day, Chairman Wall cancelled ery engagement that Judge Baldwin bad made in the State, and the Demorats are vainly endeavoring to take the urse off by declaring that the Indiana man is a Republican. Privately they •ire quoting what was once said of mother blunderer, who was described is the man "with one foot in the grave ind the other in his mouth." Judge Baldwin returned to Indiana to day full of wrath. There was a scene in the theater when he made his speech, for prominent Democrats who occupied seats on the stage interrupted him and demanded that he should stop speaking. Thib, at first, he angrily refused to do, but tho Democratic managers '.inallv

3ucceeded

in cutting him short and

breaking np the meeting. It is believed that this incident will cost the Democrats hundreds of Polish votes in Milwaukee alone, to say nothing of tLe effect in the State at large."

Fool Friends.

The

editor of the LaFayetle

Courier is snorting with rage because some of tho Wabash students wore Ann Arbor colors at the Mondoy's game, The act of the students was all right and was nothing but a graceful act of reci procity. In tho game between Wabash and Butler on the Saturday previous the Ann Arbor men had worn Wabash colors and heartily cheered the Wabash players, being tho only ones to do so besides tlw men who went over from Crawfordsville. The Purdue team is all right and cannot be too highly praised but it is sadly cursed with some fool friends who believe that the best way to glorify it is to abuse and lampoon every oollegb it meets upon the field. Such a oourse is calculated to bring the gentlemanly Put dne players into bad odor, even in Indiana. Unfortunately seems they do not do the talking which is douo in their behalf.

Indians vs. White Bones.

To Hit Editor rho Journal. Since my article in Tub Jouunai* of I Tuesday I have beon asked my students and others how bones of Indiana can be told from other races. It is by the temperaments. The old school names, four—nervous, sanguine, bilious, lymphatic. The phrenologists names three —mental, vital, motive. Either will serve our present purpose. We will uso the last. The mental temperament is predominent in the white race and is shown in large brain and active ner-1 vous system, with fine dense texture of all tissues. The African negro is of tho vital temperament mostly. Large digestive and assimilating powers giving I all the (fullness and roundness of tissues, rather than length. The motive temperament is almost universal I in the Indian race, as the word motive inplies. This temperament is known by the long, strong frume of bones and that which moves them—the muscles. All three temperaments are found among the whites of this country, being mixed nationalities. The short, fleshy English, Dutch, French or Irishman is of the 1 sanguine or vital temperament. The bones correspond in shape. Some of the bones found are short und round, comparatively (vital,) others are comparatively long and narrow with fine texture, (mental.) Henoe, it is fair to conclude they are more probably bones of whites than of Indians, whose bones are comparatively long, flat, and with prominent processes for the attachment of powerful muscles, (motive.) Cuvier from a single bone reproduced in a model an extinct animal, which was such a monstrosity thut he was luughed at but subsequently when a full skeleton was found it was shown he was right. DIT. POPPING THE QUESTION. Did you ever try to fancy to yourself the manner in which the men of your acquantance explode the momentous question.
