A flot Write Dp.

Tho Chicago Ni'irn Record to day had a write up of tho World's Fair commissioners and thus mentions C. M. Travis, of this city:

Mr. ChaB. M. Travis, who is Mr. E. B. Mnrtindale'e alternato on tho national comuvBsion, lives in Crawfordsville, which seems to havo had tho lion's share of appointments. Mr. Travis is the ad-jutant-general of tho State and is at the head ot the G.and Army. He is immensely popular with the old soldiers, partly on his own account and partly ou account of his beautiful young wife, who is one of tho State ollicers of the Woman's Relief corps. Mr. Travis served in the army when he was a mere boy. After his discharge he was made ounsel to Para, Brazil, where he re mained four years. Ho was highly es teemr-d bv the Br:./. li uib ami bv the American and English lesidents of th it pbico. Upon his return lo the United •jtati'S he located in Orawfordsvilk' and pened a pension ageno, with which he is still connocled. He is a member «f the Methodist church and is highly respited in the cultivated cuminiiuily in wiiieli ho lives. lie is a linen' ami in leresting speaker and w. mentioned favorably as Republican nominee for lieutenant-governor. He is compara tively a young inau yel, and will doubtless achieve the honor of the nomina tion. Mr. Travia in tall, slight and graceful, with ri'gnl-ir features, blue eyes and light brown hair and side wliis kers.

A Beautiful Sentimeut.

In the course of the remarks made bv Rev. John R. Dinnen, he said that much, if not all connected with Columbus and the discouery of*America was providential! Tho name of .Christopher Columbus was Irom the ialin words "Christns, Christ "fero," I baar or carry, and "ilo'.umba" a dove. That Columbus was faithful to his numo and mission, for when he landed upon tho uewly discovered world he erected the Cross of Christ and named it San Salvador, Spanish word, which means Holy Savior." Bancroft, the historian writes, that "Columbus was a Catholic," and a very devout one too. Prayers and hymns of tha Catholic church used by him, are the same in use to-day in the Catholic church. Tho hymns "Ave Maris Stell.-'," Hail Star of the Sea, and "Salva Regena" Hail Holy Queen are familiar to all Catholics.
