Hon. W. E. Humphrey, of Crawfordsville, spoke to a large audience "of republicans and democrats in Aders's hall at Bain bridge last Friday night The republicans were delighted with the speech, while the democrats were again treated to a dose of the truth.— Gnvncastle liamier and Times.
A Glorious Time.
Last evening was a memorable one in colored society circles and not for a long time has so brilliant an event occurred under the auspioes of the colored population. The Odd Fellows banquet and ball last evening was grand success in all its details and particulars and upon the management reflects no end of credit. The tables in the Morton club hall were loaded down with the choicest of viands at the banquet hour and noarly 200 sat down the feast. The Indies were all elegantly costumed and at their best while the gentlemen were attired tn their gallantry and good clothes. An unusually large number of guests from out of the city were present and the occasion was one of the felicitously felicitous Bort. After the banquet all who danced adjourned to the '8S's hall, where tar into the night they tloated in the dreamy waltz. Schweitzer's orchestra furnished music for both the bnnquet and ball and the whole affair was simply grand.
He Wants Hie Old Oannon. Charles L. Voris, of Paris, 111., wanlH hia old brass cannon and by all that's righteous he ought to have it. He has written to the city authorities and states that he wants it—wants it bad and needs it in liis business. The old cannon is that same instrument of fell destruction with which John Bruiser, of precious memory, used to raiso Cain about these parts and disturb the sweet slumbers of all good citizens by his unearthly and uncanny bombardments at all unseemly hours nnd on till occasions, seemly and unseemly. How Johu Bruker ever got hold of tho old brass cannon of Mr. Yoris is as much of a mystery as whore that interesting relic of death and general desolation now is. The general imp.ession is that tho old brass cannon is among the things that were but if it can bo found Mr. Voris ought to have it.
Dismissed.
The Wilhit« damage suit against the Clover Leaf road for §10,000 came to an abrupt close in the circuit court this morning. The plaintiff's testimony was all in yesterday and the defense had begun. When tho court convened tbis morning, however, Mr. Paul arose and stated that after consulting with hir co-counsel he had decided to dismiss the case. This was done because it was pretty evident that no verdict oould be obtained from a jury and even if one could be it was certain that the court would set it aside. Tho plaintiff's witnesses did not pan out and actually gave pretty good evidence for the dotense. The costs will be taxed up against the plaintiff.
Dr. HurrouirhE the Orator.
The committee on arrangements for the Columbian Day celebration met last evening in the mayor's office and chose an orator for the occasion. It was the unanimous sense of the committee that Dr. Burroughs, tho new president of Wabash College, was the gentleman to be selected for tho honor. Dr. Burroughs will arrive next week and perhaps no bettor method of introducing him to tho rising generation could be struck np than having him deliver an oration before the school children of the county on Columbus Day.
The Shoemaker's Last.
Henry C. Shoemaker has brought suit through White, Humphrey Reeves, for a divorco from Stella, who packed up her party dresses and manicure sot and left his roof last October. Stella had been acting badly for some time before and in mild September when the mocking bird was singing o'er tho grave of sweet Hallio and all that sort of thing, the complaint alleges that she had quite an interesting escapado with Charles Coons. This is tho ground work ol the plaintiff's plea and on this he chiefly depends for legal separation.

The Suspenders Must Go.
The gentlemanly get-up, that is, the one showing the cloth skirt, regulation shirt and Hare-away coat'bids fair to be in vogue all the winter. The ugly BUS penders will die with the summer sun. Womankind never assumed anything that was quite so masculine or quite so ungraceful as these articles they made her figuro look badly, and they certainly did not make !.er look more a woman. —From The I.adieu' Home Journal for October.

There is more Catarrh in this section of ihe country than all other diseases put together, and untill the last few years was supposed to be incurable. For a Kroat many years doctors pronounced it a local disease, and proscribed local remedies, and by constantly failing to cure with local treatment, pronounced it incurable. Science has proven catarrh to be a constitutional disease, nnd therefore requires constitu tional treatment. Hall's Catarrh Cure, manufactured by J. F. Cheney & Co., Toledo, Ohio, is the only, constitutional cure on the market. It is taken internally in doses from 10 drops to a teaspoonful. It act6 directly on tho blood nnd mucotiB surfaces of the system. They offer one hundred dollars for any case it fails to cure. Send for circulars and testimonials. Address,
