To fie Installed.

The Courier has received an invitation to attend the installation services of the Father Dinnen Commandery, K. of St. J. at Cruwfordsville, Sunday, Oct. 10. The commandery are working hard to make this a grand event for their city pnd at the same time to outdo all other events of the same nature, and will no doubt succeed. They are preparing to entertain as their guests all uniformed Catholic societies, clergymen and the press. Commanderies will be there from Louisville, Indianapolis, New Albany, Fort Wayne, LaFayette and other cities. Evansville will be represented by the banner commandery ot the State. Col. Spechert, of Louisville, will have charge of tho military display, and W. W. Cheezum, sr., ot this city, will be the installing oflicer. The following gentlemen of No. 202 compose the committee on arrangements: Capt. John Drury, W. O. Murphy, M. J. McCarty, D. G. Sullivan, (the comedian.) Jivunsville Courier.

Contention on Paw Paw Btreet. The good name of Paw Paw street, so long sustained by blue blood, Puritanitanical virtue and a dominant aristocracy, has been trailed in the dust by two ot the oharming young society buds of that high toned and recherche quarter. Misses Maude Toney nnd Gertrude Gerbrick have mixed. Miss Gertrude nnd her mother, Mrs. Michael Gerbrick, the color of whose tresses by a beautiful coincidence, corresponds in color to the last syllable of her name, were before Mayor Bandel this morning. The ladies gently fanned themselves with their stylish sun bonnets and chewed their apron strings quite vigorously as they detailed in the choice language of Paw Paw street the cause of the late unpleasantness. It appears that Miss Gertrude is somewhat precocious for her tender years and according to current rumor of Goose Nibble has departed from the straight and narrow path. When rumors of this nature reached the eare of Miss Gertrude she at once began tracing them down nnd soon found that the fountain head, or rather information bureau was Master Jimmie Mclvinsey, her cousin

Miss Gertrude at once hunted him down nnd met him on the bloody sands of PnwPaw street last evening just as the sun liko ruddy ore was sinking in the western sky. Jimmie wus chastised in just about two minutes and just ns Miss Gertrude was putting the last artistio tints in Venetian red on Jimmie's Henry Clny head when Miss Maude Toney who long had admired him' from afar came swooping down and seizing a heavy stick gave Miss Gertrude some of the most scientific clips administered in sporting circles since the great Corbett-Sullivan mill. Miss Gertrude was laid on the shelf nnd didn't get off until she visited the Mayor to-day. Mayor Bandel quieted matters by gravely threatening to visit this beligerent neighborhood in tho near future.

Always at Par.

When a national bank closos its doors the notes bearing its name aro just as valuable as thoso bearing the name of the best institution in the country. This is the result of the admirable Republican system of national banking, and this is tho system which the Chicago convention demanded to have overthrown. The crazy declaration of that body in favor of a return to the abominable system of banking in vogue before the war, is an insult to tho intelligence of the people and a menace to the finances of the country. Every vote with the Democrats or with the People's party means a return to tho wretched system of state bank currency which caused millions -of dollars losses to farmers and others before the present splendid Bystem of safe and reliable currency was devised.

The McKlnloy Bill Did It. The decision of the company known as Salt & Sons, the owners of Saltaire, near Bradford, England, to wind up their affairs is attributed by tho corporation itself to the MoKinley law. The chief business of tho concern has been the manufacture of plushes for the American market, but since tho McKinley law was enacted the business, wo are told, has diminished to one-tenth of its former proportions.—New York Press.

More Mauufactiirern Advance Wages. The report of Commissioner Peck as to increased wages in New York under the McKinley law is sustained by the report of the labor commissioner of Massachusetts, whose report shows an increase of wages in over 69 per cent, of the 4,500 manufacturing establishments reported upon.

There is one pauper in free trade England to every thirty-nine people. In America there is ono to every 080. Low wages, poor living and in old age the poor farm. If tho free trade party in America is striving to enlarge the number of paupers, it is advocating the right policy to brinir alxitit such result.
