Alex Hammond Wickedly Assails a iDrunken Man Who InsultB .him. Blacksmith Campbell, an old Irishman who is employed at the shop of Charley Smith received rough usage last night at the hands of Alex. Hammond, the colored cook of the Nutt House, snd his injuries may prove to be of a very serious nature. Campbell wbb drunk and in front of the Nutt House accused Hammond stealing half a dollar from him. A little quarrel followed and finally Hammond struck Campbell a stinging blow on the face. Campbel ran, followed by the infuriated Hammond who repeatedly knocked him down and kicked him. Campbell was knocked against the letter box and a terrible gash cut in his head. He sta ggered acroBS the street and fell crying that he had had enough but

Hammond continued to cruelly kick and stnk6 him until assistance arrived. G..mpbell in an unconscisus condition was carried to jail and put under treatment. He is in bad 6hape and might die from his injuries. The employer of Hammond stood good for his appearance this morning.

Billingsly left the city in liis buggy for his home southwest of here, When near F. M. Dice's place the horse took fright and ran off, completely demolishing the bnggy.
