"WVU, sinco you ask mo ns a friend to tell you frankly what's 011 my mind, 1 may as well confess to you that I am iu deep liuancial distress," said Johnson to nil acquaintance the oilier evening'. "1 am done up: I'm a whipped rooster I ain't in it I'm completely knocked out, and I've got to make a change of some kind." "Wliy, I'm surprised to hear this!" said the friend. "I thought you were prospering nicely when I met you last spring. How did your reverses come about?" "In this way. We moved into a new Hat, May, and another family moved in just over head. We were friendly for a time until they rented a second-hand piano. We thought we'd play even and so we rented one. They began giving their (laughter lessons, and in order to even up the noise we followed suit. They bought their boys a cornet and a snare drum, and we bought ours a trombone and a bnsedrum. Then they bought a horse fiddle, an accordion, and a hurdy-gurdy, and that's the way it's been going ever since until I'm done up. I've got two wagon loads of noise-mak-ing instruments at my iiou-e. but my neighbor goes right 011 buying everything new and noisy that he hears of. and to make matters worse lie's got children enough to play all the instruments at 011 time. If I had the money

I'd drown that man out if I had to buy Gabriel's trumpet to do it with, but I atn at the end of my string and I confess that I've got to retreat. I'm awful sorry tliev ever rented that old piano." —Chicago Times.

SilppoKeil ti Take Tlieir Cliarncterlgtloi from mi Kxtlnrt ('amiltm! Trllio. There are several albinos among the Moqui tribe of Indians on the Moqui reservation in Apache county, Arizona, says the San Francisco Chronicle. Some of these albinos are pure white, with regular Indian features—reddrxh yellow hair and blue eyes. Others, again, have pink eyes, which are constantly twinkling as if

suffering

from some

nervous nlTectlon. There is one of tho albino girls, about twelve or thirteen years old, attending the government school at Kearn's canyon. She is one of the brightest scholars in tho school. Her parents arc pure Indian and unusually dark colored. I saw another albino among them, a man of about forty or forty-five .years of age, and small in stature. His hair was long and coarse und of a light yellow, eyes a bright blue with a reddish glint, and constantly moving. 1 understand there are several more of these people among the Moquis.

The late Pitite princess, Saran Winnemucca, makes mention of these peculiar people in her book. She speaks of tho tradition among her people that a tribe once existed there having yellow hair and pink eyes, who were cannibals, and were driven by the Piutes and other tribes southward, presumably to New Mexico or Arizona, They were driven into the mountains and there massacred, only a very few being known to have escaped.

Trsip-DnorH Tinier the $cnt». Some ingenious and some idiotic de•iees to insure the safety of an audience in ease of fire have been lately projected. One is to have a trap-door arranged under each seat in the theater, so that by simply pressing a button the occupant is1 gently lowered into a comfortable and fire-proof vault below the tloor, and where, presumably, the frightened and lialf-fainting person is treated to a drink and a schweizer sandwich, says the Stage. This idea comes from Paris, and is open to one objection. What are the poor gallery people going to do? They would be apt to break their necks if put through a hole in the tloor, and it would prove rather an expensive arrangement to provide everybody who bought a balcony or a gallery seat with a special elevator..
