Dixon Won.
he Sullivan boys received quite a detailed -iccount of the Dixon-Skclley mill at New Orleans last night, and the usual largo crowd assembled to hear the returns. Dixon, the colored man, won the contest, knocking Skelley out in the eignth round. lie had it all his own way fro the start. To-night the great Corbett-Sullivan mill occur, and will set the town by the ear. The fight will be received by rounds and all the sports in the county will be on hand to hear the news. Bets are all in favor of Sullivan

Last night as Mr. Windy Everson was quietly walking along the street the men who were flushing the gutters amused themselves by turning jthe hose on him, drenching him to the skin. It was a mighty meant rick and Mr. Windy was obliged to take a large doso of the Magic worm powder before lie recovered his composure.
Deatn of Harrv Detnob.
Harry Detrich, the son of John Detrich, of Waveland, died Monday night of consumption. The funeral will occur this afternoon conducted by the Masonic fraternity. The deceased was a popular young man.'

CHICAGO, Sept. 7.—Mayor Wnshburne testified under oath, in Justice llluine's court, that Chief of l'olico MeClauRhry approached him with a proposition made l)y .lames Jiurke, Ed Cornwall's partner, to give, on behalf of the Hawthorne race track people, S.r0.000 to the republican campaign fund if the city authorities would close the liarlicld club track. The offer was refused by mayor. Maj. McClauffhry immediately afterward contradicted under oath this statement of his superior. Considerable fear is fell in this city as to the fate of the Arctic explorers owing to the delayed arrival of the Cryolite bark Ivigtut from the Greenland port of the same name. Most serious fears are entertained that the Kite has never reached McCormiek bay. but is stuck in the ice. As she took 110 extra supplies and it is believed she will be forced to spend the winter ill the ice. it is feared that her provisions wifl become exhausted before January 1.

CHICAGO, Sept. 7.—Two boys, one of them supposed to lc (ieorire Tichler i.r 7b7 Seventeenth street, the other unknown. were driviny aeros* the Chicago. Hurlinjxlon Quincy tracks at Wood street in a junk wajfon when the vehicle as struck by an engine, the boys thrown out. and the wayon demolished. The boy whose name is not known was mstautly killed. Tichler was so badly injured that he died at the county hospital just after reaching there.
