FRIDAY, SEPT. *2.1892.

THE "poor man's dinner pail," over which the tin-plate liar shed BO man lugubrious tears two rears ago, is now selling 25 i»ar cent, cheaper than it was then sold.

IN 1S57 during the low tariff period wool blankets coat 86. In 1892 under the McKinley tariff law abetter wool blanket can be bought for $3.25. Let the free traders squawk.

TALK to the housewives of ths land about "McKinley prices," and TOU will find they cannot recall when any article of clothing, food or household use could be bought as cheaply as to-day.

IT is ail well enough to scrape the dirt off the streets, but the dirt and fillh that breed cholera and kindred diseases aje found in back yards, back alleys and back streets. The woman that keeps a" neat parlor and a filthy kitchen is not an ideal housekeeper.

ANOTHER big factory destroyed by fire last night at Mnncie, the fifth within a few months, suggests that the "magic" city had better reorganize her lire department. Iwliannjiolis AVtr*.

O, no let the Democracy have 6ome thing to cheer them occasionally, as the growing procession of McKinley mills, and factories, inarches over thero, and tramples down their hopes.

UEi't'fiLifAyH don't want the people to hear but one side of the tariff question.—Iniliimajtolis Sentinel.

THE JouitN'AL has time and again offered its columns to any Democrat to explain njjon what theory or principle the Democratic party proposes to put the tariff back on sugar and to put tinplate on the free list. But neither Con gressman Brookshire nor any other Democrat has so far accepted our •offer. It seems that the Democratic leaders are afraid to have the people hear even their own side discussed.

THE Star talks this way: "Suppose the sixty tinworks of Wales and the 10,1100 Welch tinworkers do come to America, will that aid the American farmer':" It is such rot as this that makes politics disreputable. Suppose these workmen come to this country will they cease eating and wearing The farmers of Indiana will be benefit ted by such an increase of population by the increased demand for their products. This is the first instance in the history of the State where an increase of population was deplored but the tender head of the Star would rather see his State drop back into innocuous desuetude than see his party fail. Discouraging prosperity is the great Democratic forte.

WATTEILSON, of the Louisville

CWriVr Journal, speaking of Cleveland and his anti-pension message says: HIS IJUEAT A.VTI-PEXHION MESSAGE IS T.IKE UNTO IT A HECOND-CHAPTEIL IN THE DESICOHATIU BOOK OF REFORM. The hope of the country is the end of the tariff robbery. THE iioru OF THE THEASrur is THE END OF THE TENSION ROBBERY.

Mr. Watterson concludes this tirade of billingsgate and hate toward the Union veterans as follows:

We war against Keediem, Raumism and robbery. We war against fraud, force and fnstian. We war against protection, plutocracy, and AGRARIAN PENHIONMONOOEIIY. And we propose to carry the war into Africa to shake the rotten citadels of unholy greed to their foundations and to make the robbers howl. The black flag is up against corruption in high places. No dalliance with zealots no quarter to thieves.

After reading the aljove can any eelfreBpecting soldier vote for Grover Cleveland

It Would Ruin Them.

Strange, is it not, that while all the Cleveland journals declare that the McKinley act has vastly iucreased the cost of living and burdened the people with •unnecessary and iniquitous taxation, not one of thein dares to print a table of comparative prices in 1890 and 1892?— New York Tribune.

It has lx-n so long since the Rev. Samuel Francis Smith wrote the famous hyum called "America"—"My country, 'tis of thee," c-tc.—that it excites surprise to learn that he is still alive and doing considerable preaching. He was born in Boston, Oct. 21, ISO1-, graduated irom Harvard in 1829 and from Andover Theological seminary in 1S32. ANDERSON. Ind., Sept 2.—An epidemic of hydrophobia threatens the city. Mad (iotrs are numerous, and during the past thirty-six hours over one dozen persons have been bitten by animals supposed or known to t* rabid. The excitement is something terrible and the people are practically in a state of siege. One fatal case of the disease has already been chronicled and the terror-stricken people are expecting many more. Thursday Mayor Terhuue issued peremptory orders to the chief of police to kill every dog found running at large, and also to keep careful witch with a view to a similar disposal of other animals should they display any symptoms of rabies.
