Ira McCnrmoll was down at Pino Hills the other day to survey some land and incidentally set up his transit on the bridge. The Indianapolis parties in camp at the Cliff Dwellers' cabin were at once all commotion. They thought a photographer wished to "take" them, and in less than fifteen micutes were arrayed in their bathing suits and lined nj) in the water. They were quickly "taken" by Mr. MeConnell and will probably be happy in the belief that their pictures are decorating Crawfordsville drawing rooms ar.d canning no end of favorable comment.

A. M. E, Conference.

EVANSNILI.K, Aug, 28.—This is. the last day of tho conference sossion and a more pleasant and gratifying conference has not been held in this Stato for many a year. The week's sessions have been a noble demonstration of church order and government. There is bishop o!1 the college equal to our venerable father Wayman. Sunday was a day of unusual interest. At 10:30 n. m. Elder Simpson proachod tho ordination sermon and it was a wonderful piece of art. At high noon one elder and two deacons wero ordained aftor due election. The services, which are the most solemn in ths church, wero conducted by Bishop Wayman, assisted by live elders. The older was Louis l'ettiford, ofCrawfordsville, tho deacons Crover and J. F. l'ettiford. At 3 o'clock Bishop Wavman delivered a masterly sermon, his text being 1 Psalms, "Tho Way of the Itighteous." Though the BishUp is more than tlireo scores and ten ho is nevertheless a most forcible preacher. His sermon which was a perfect piece of art was up to the times and waslieiiitily received. At 7:30 Rov. J. A. Davis, of Indianapolis, delivered a very powerful sermon, at the conclusion of which he was presented with fivo dollar bill from one of the cit ?'B best men. Dr. Townsend proachod at M. E. Farlnnd chapel a much needed sermon. Conference will adjourn at 10:30 p. m.

Deals in Dirt.

Last week Kelley Hall sold his farm of 80 acres, a few miles southwest of tho city, to Joseph Pickle, of Putnam county, for the sum of 84,000, or S50 an acre.

Judge W. P. Britton has sold 80 acres of the Ilerron farm, which inclndos the residence, to Jacob S. Livingston, of Fountain county, for the sum of $10,000, which is at the rate of SI25 an acre. The Judge retains 27 acres on the east lying along the Oreencastlo road. He will at once begin the erection of an elegant reeidenoo on the corner just opposite the home of F, 1. Dice.

Tho above sales wero made through tho real estate agency of J. .T. Darter who has forty-nine other farms for sale. Mr. Darter states that real estate is lively nnd active and can account for it in no other way than through tho healthy operations of tho McKiuley law.

Failed To Show Up,

Ollicer Grimes spent yesterday afternoon chasing through the region round about the iron bridge, looking for the negro who knocked down and robbed old James Dt vnn of 810. The search was unsuccessful but the police believe the man was one acquainted thoroughly with Devan. Devan, although quite wealthy, dresses meaner than any pauper and no strange robber would ever think of assailing him on the highway with the hope of obtaining any of the coin of the realm. James is fairly wild ovor his

IOBS

and would sooner have

parted with a leg than those greasy greenbacks.

Will Return at Once.

Dr. C. L. Thomas has cabled Sam and Miss Martha, who are now in London, that they had best return at once sailing from Liverpool or Glasgow. They had engaged passage for September 1H and had yet to do England and Paris, but owing to the cholera will be unable lo carry out their programme nnd if possible will roturn on the first liner on which they can secure passage. The Oerman and French liners nre all stopping at Southamton now and do not attempt tho Continental ports at all.

At, Reduced Rates.

L. J. Coppage has been in correspon dence with tin various railroads thai cross the C. A- O. and make connection with tho various mountain resorts in Virginia nnd North Carolina and has secured a special rate of less than onehalf for holders of (1. A. It. excursion tickets who desire to visit points in Virginia nnd North Carolina not on the excursion line. Ho also has arranged for board and lodging at much reduced rates.

Again at Sea,

The school board seems to be experiencing no little dilliculty in securing a principal for tho high school. Mr. Price, of Springfield, Ohio, tho last man they followed up with a lasso, has given them tho slip and goes to a Michigan town at tho same salary they offered, profering lo go there because he would not hnve to bo bothered with an examination. The board will send to Johns Hopkins University for a suitable man.

The renders of this paper will be pleased to learn that there is one dreaded disease that science has been able to cure in all its stages and that is Catarrh. Hall's Catarrh Cure is the only positive cure now known to the medical fraternity. Catarrh being a constitutional disease, requires a constitutional treatment. Hall's Catarrh Cure is taken internally, acting directly on the blood and mucone surfaces of tho system, thereby destroying tlie foundation of the disease, and giving the patient strength by building up the constitution and assisting nature in doing its work. The proprietors have so much faith in its curative power that they offer One Hnnd red Dollars for any case that it fails to cure. Send for list of Testimonials.
