ASSAULT AND BATTERY.

This is What Jake Sullivan isOalled Upon to Stand Trial. Chas. Cornwall, the Monon Road Master, who was struck by Jake Sullian with car-pin, was able to be taken to his home in Bloomington to-day. He rested easily last night, and is in a fair way to recovery. His skull is fractured, but, with good nursing he will recover. Mr. Cornwall says, in regard to the assault, that as he entered one of the west doors of the freight department of the depot, he passed Sullivan, who was sitting near tho door. He said "good afternoon," to Sallivan, who did not answer. Cornwall sat down upon a boxt and when a freight train pulled in on the switch ho started to go to the caboose. He passed down to the tracks and was just passing mit of tho north freight track or, when Sullivan stepped np and struck him with the car pin, knocking him down. There is evidence that ho was hit but once though a witness Bays that Sullivan struck twice. Cornwall had had no conversation with Sullivan immediately previous to the asBimlt, and Sullivan

Some hen had laid an egg, and all these setting hens had been employing their leisure hours in hatching the chick. Mr. Kostanzer was thus outwitted by his setting hens.
