'1'iin iMcKinley tariff is working outl its own viiulieation in new factories established on American soil, in now ijoureos of remunerative employment for all sorts and conditions of men and in a genoral reduction of tho Cost of living

Tim DoiikktuIs are worried abunt the Treasury surplus for fear that it will not hold out against the bills. It won't with another Democratic Congress to pass rebel war claims, Tho Committee on War Claims in tho last House reported rebel claims against the government amounting to $70,000,000. The Democratic were, however, a'mid to pass these bills jiiBt before election. They allowed them to go over until December.

"(If.m'.kai/' Adt.ai Ii. Stevenson now makes a show of his friendliness to union labor. Tho report of the Illinois Inspector of Mines in 1888 stated: "There have been only two strikes in this district during the last year. Tho first was by the miners employed by tho McLean County Coal Company, at lilooiuington. Tho company having discharged a few of its employes for taking a loading part in formings union the miners as a body came out on a strike to have those who had been discharged reinstated." General Ktovonson was President of the McLean countv coal company at that time, and he discharged miuors for trying to form a miner's union.

In 1890 Montgomery county paid in ns State wxse the sum of $21,500.19, and (is Suite school $27,845.25, un aggregate of §49,345.44. In 1891 the Stuto taxes amounted to $38,035.18, and the State School to $34,615.19, an aggregate of $73,250.37, or an increase of $23,904.93. This great increase from this county was made neccssary by the Democratic policy of managing the State finances. Notwithstanding this great increase in the revenue from every county in the State the $9,000,000 debt will not in the least lie decreased. It rejuires all the revenue the Stat« can raise to pay the interest on the enormous debt and to meet current expenses.

Verily, the Democratic party is a taxeating and debt-making party, and not a tax reduction and debt paying party.

Ti:k Durham, North Caroliua, Globe does not hesitate to express tho Southern Democrat opinion on the subject of jiensions. Its utterances must make the hearts of good old Democrats shout for joy. It say6:

The pension fraud iB theft, and we repeat that no man can honestly defend it. The South lias been taxed to pay this grand army of rascals—these bottle scarred bums who reach out the empty palms and when Cleveland struck the lieggars in the face he did a good busi noss job. We hope to Clod that ho may have a chance to hit 'em again. Vagraants and mendicants should be both vigorously slapped and kicked.

resentative JSrookfOiire left Washington he assured the papers there that the Uepublican party in Indiana was torn asunder by dissensions, but that the Democracy was unit ml and working harmoniously for the election of its loader. Mr. Urooksliirc has not been at home for some time. After he has been in the State few davs and looked over

tho ground he will discover that he has simply reversed the truth.

Nkw Yoiik State has a collateral inheritance tax law. It is bearing rich fruit for the State treasury. The heirs of the late Samuel S. Tilden have just paid into the treasury the neat sum of $1-17,283. If this feature -was addecj to tho Indiana tax law the burden would not fall so heavily on land and personal property as it does now.
