KvAN'SVII.LK, Ind.. Aug. 5.—William Hudson, a freight transfer contractor, was reported at noon Thursday as having committed suicide. Detectives went to the house aud examined the woumls and determined that it was not a case of suicide and arrested Harry Hodson, the eldest son of the murdered man. He was taken to the police headquarters, where he acknowledged having shot his father and anxiously inquired about his condition. When told that his parent was dead lie fell back Into the cell, ovevcome with grief. He would do but little talking, but said that the trouble grew out of a quarrel at the dinner table.

Four Men Shot.

SGVMOUH, Ind., Aug. 5. Thursday forenoon while William (freer, Jacob Loertz, "Shorty" Wilson and John irnian, of Seymour, and William Wilson, of Crothersville, were returning from an all-night coon hunt, lireer, who had been drinking, got out of the wagon aud refused to proceed. lie ordered the others to Btop, and when they refused he swore he would kill them all. He deliberately loaded his gun and begau firing. William Wilson was fatally shot. John Firman seriously. "Shorty" Wilson and Loertz were also wounded. One of tho horses was also shot. Greer escaped and has not yet been captured.

Damaged by Storm*

NEWCASTLE, Ind., Aug. 5.—The most severe electric storm that ever visited this county passed over the northern portion of it Wednesday night. No casualties are reported, but much dam age was done to timber, hay ricks and barns and their contents. Will Ferris lost his barn and contents, including one valuable horse, entailing a loss of 51,500, insured for 8500 in tho Phienix. Thomas Hartly's large barn, together with a large amount of ha}', grain and three horses, were burned with- a loss of Si,000, no insurance and Henry Ocord's barn and contents, which included three horses, were also burned with a loss of $1,500, with no insurance.

Leaped to 'III* Death.

CniWFOitnsvu.LE, Ind., Aug. 5.— Chelay Graves, an insurance agent, died Thursday morning of terrible injuries while walking in his sleep Wednesday night. Mr. Craves was to have been one of a large party of young society peoplo who cwere to have spent Thursday at the "Shades of Death," a very romantic resort near Crawfordsvillo. Everything had been prepared for ao early start but during the uiglit Graves arose in his sleep and fancied he was walking with his picnic party along the rocky bluffs at the Shades, and jumped through the screen to the ground, a distance of 25 feet, aud was killed.

Natural Gas Sure.

VALPARAISO, Ind., Aug. 5.—A movement is now under wny which will insure natural gas for all the cities along the line of the Columbus Construction Company In northern Indiana. Mains will be laid to connect with the main line and gas will be supplied to manufactories. A number of attempts have been made to find gas in northern Indiana but without success. The advent of this new fuel will be hailed with general rejoicing.

ISDIAXAPOMS, Ind., Aug. 5.—The Louisville, New Albany & Chicago vestibule train which left this city at l'i:40 Thursday morning struck bull that had become fastened in a culvert at Itroad Hippie, 9 miles noith of here. The engine was thrown over, killing the engineer. Metsker, of Lafayette, and dangerously injuring Fireman Charles llall, of this city. The traiD remained intact on the track.

Won on a Foul.

RICHMOND. Ind., Aug. 5.— A prize fight took place at 4 o'clock Thursday morning at Ileeson's station, in this county, letwcen Ed Bennett, of Toronto, Can., and Jack Dougherty, of Philadelphia. The fight was for SOOO and the gate money. Dougherty was declared the winner on a foul at the end of the sixth round, Hennctt having struck him three times after time was called. Five hundred people saw the fight.

SOUTH BEND, Ind., Aug. 5.—A storm of hail, wind and rain swept over the country Wednesday afternoon. North of the city a large barn owned by Joseph A. Ullcry, Jr., was destroyed with contents. At North Liberty and New Carlyle several residences and other buildings were damaged, crops were injured, and the North Liberty cemetery left a scene of desolation.

Ei.Kii.wtT, Ind., Ausr. 5.—Thursday was the first duy of the firemen's tournament here. The attendance was large. Art Miles, of this city, won the '.2-mile bicycle race. Three Kivers, Mich., won the first hook and ladder race Kllchart, second liristol, Ind., third. Tho Goshen, Ind., hose company won Otsego. Mich., second, and Three Rivers, Mich., third.

HUNTISGTOX, Ind., Aug. 5.—Ida M. Stutts brought suit Thursday against her husband, Landa Stutts, for divorce. The filing of the suit has caused a great sensation. The parties are very prominent people and possess considerable property. The complaint charges brutal and inhuman treatment.

He it ordained by the Common Council of ttie City of Cra.vfordsv.lle, State of Indiana, that 110 person or persons, shall be permitted to peddle, sell or distribute within the limits of said city, or to take orders therefor for future delivery, any articles of poods commonly handled or sold by any proceryman in said city of any kind, including baiting powders, soaps, or toilet articles of anything usually handled by them. This does not include vegetables and produce distributed by farmers aud gardiners residents of Montgomery county. Any license granted for such purpose shall not be less than per day. Any person violating the provisions hereof shall be lined the sum of $10 00.

He it further ordained by tho common council of the city of Crawfordsillc, that no person traveling as a special physician, clairvoyants or persons professing to treat diseases of any kind, without first obtaining from the Mayor or Clerk of said city a license so to do, which license shall he 15 00 per day, and any person violating any provision of this section shall be fined in the eum of (10.00.

Be it further ordainod by the common council of the city of Crawfordsville, that no person shall be permilted to engage in the business of public or private auctioneer iu said city, or to sell goods, wares or other property of any kind, within the corporate limits of said city, without first obtaining from tho Mayor or Clerk of said city a license so to do, which license shall not be less than 5.00 per day.
