H. D. Vancleave has brought a habeas corpus proceedings in the case of young Will Davis, the Linden burglar. The grounds for asking the release of Davis are the decision of the Justice in declaring him guilty, his failure to permit him to be bailed and several other minor points. The thing which will be particularly urged upon the consideration of the court, however, is the deplorable condition of Davis's health. The poor chap iB spitting blood constantly and grows perceptibly weaker every hour. Judge Harney will hear the case tb-morrow morning at 9 o'clock and will probably render his decision at once.

It is a pitiful Item in a story full of pathos that several of tlio presents originally bought as wedding gifts for the Princess May should now be once more offered to tho public, their intended destination lending them a special charm to certain class of buyers. One feels additionally touched when one remembers the delight with which tho princess is said to have received those which were sent to her before her terrible trouble. Yet in a little shop In the Strand, well lniown to connoisseurs, who have a very high opinion of Mr. Boore's knowledge of old silver, jewelry, etc., can be seen the colebrated Tiffany necklace, a rcviero of magnificent diamonds, which were bought in New York to present to the popular princess. It is one of the collection of jewels which Mr. Booro may bo persuaded to show to special customers, though tho "common herd" are not allowed to gaze on it. Another particular treasure is a sapphire, says tho Philadelphia Telegraph. I was going to say a priceless stone, but truth to tell it is priced, and its value is five thousand pounds. It is a perfect stono, without flaw, of exqulslto color, two inches long and one and a half inchcs broad. At present it is set round with fine brilliants and forms a royal-looking brooch. The other day a wouid-be purchaser brought his wife to seo tho present he proposed to make. But she would havo nothing to say to the jewel. "No, thank you," sho exclaimed "I should feel like a church widow if I wore that." So the treasured heirloom of an old Russian fnmily Is still in tho market. Mr. noore had for some years beenmnklng a collection of pearls varying in size from that of a pea to a large marble, and has now nearly completed his labor. AU tho stones are perfect in shape, skin and color, the center pearl having cost over two thousand pounds. Tho collector is besieged with questions as to the luclcy individual who is to become tho owner of this wonderful string, but is firm in his refusul to reveal tho umc.
