An Exciting Time With Them in That Town, and One Thief Safely Bageod. Special to ho Journal:

LINPV.N, IND., August 3.—Last night at about 11 o'clock V* m. Mofllt, who had just retired to bed and hud not fallen to sleep vat-, hoard some ono at the pump just across the street, and then heard them walking on the plank sidewalk in front of A. K. Hash's store. Immediately a noise of glass being broken was heard. He jumped out of his bod and ran into the room of l'oirv Hash who was boarding with hira and awoke him. TLey both dressed and went across the street. They found a light in Ol Browning's barber shop, and one of them went around to the back door. Neither one of them having any fire arms they were not hasty about closing in on them while they were in the room. Pretty soon the light in the shop was blown out and two men crawled out of the hole, in the door onto the sidewalk, and started to walk lesiurely awny. Mollit and Hash called to them to halt, but they would not halt. Then they throw rocks at them. '1 he burglars stopped and shot back at them and then ran away. Mr. Browning was gotten up and telegraphed to Veedersbnrg,

LiiFayett?, Crawfordsville, Frankfort, and Darlington. Two men who got oiT of a train at Voodorsburg were arroBled and searched, but no ntolen goods being found on them, they wero released. The chief of police at LaFayette telegraphed back that two men got of? the train at Taylor's. Constable Keeney and deputy Howard went to Taylor's,but nothing has been heard. The burglars made a clean swoop of Mr. Browning's razors this time, leaving only one that he uses to shave corpse with. This is the fourth or lifth time his shop and shoo store has been burglarized, and still they don't want our town incorporated. his morning Keeney nnd Howard returned from Tavlor'B with one of the thieves whom they hiul caught with the stolon property in his possession. In compliance with the constitution of the Battle Ground camp meeting association the stockholders hold a meet ing on tho giounds yesterday afternoon l'hey niljonrnod until 10 o'clock Mon day morning, August 22, at which time ollicers will IJO elected and W. Some time ago 1 premium was declared of 100 per cent and every man's stock was thorob_ doubled. The constitution provides that Stock per share shall bo sold at S25, and this is tho sum the secretary is allowed to sell it at, no less nor no *uoro. But the extra stock secured by rehson of the dividend has leen sold at S12.50 by the stockholders, thus preventing tho secretary or the association from selling a single share of stock. A BEAUTIFUL_TR1BUTE.

The Bad Death of Mary D. Gilkey Is Mourned By Her iriends. A well rounded, full orbed life closed last evening at half past four, in the death of Mary D., only daughter cf the late Daniel and Julia Gilkey. Mary Gilkey was born November 18, 1874, at her late residence on south Washington street, whoie she has lived all through her childhood and just into the beginng of womanhood. "'TIB not how long we live but how well we live." And O, how well Mary 1). has lived in her short days. Her lite was full of loving deeds for others, evon in her last illness she would re ceive no favor from her friends and relatives which would harm or inconvenience them in the least. Her spirit has ascended to the upper world where her father and mother have all theso years been awaiting their only child and

O, what a circle, what a happy family is now gathered in that lovely home of God. Why do we mourn departed friends when the departure makes such joy on the other side? Her life here was seemingly as transient as the morning dew, yet, like the dow how refreshing. 'Tis a lovely rose nipped in tho bud, yet how sweet, leaving behind it a fragrance which cannot be swept away even by the sullen winds of time. In the home, she was its light in society, she was one of its most attractive members and in the church, how tiue and sincere. Mary's untimely departure has left a void, which even time cannot fill a void which will be felt until all who knew her hero shall know her hereafter. Mary D.'s life for the past four yeais has le:n especially marked by her loving deeds and service to her Maker and friends. "Thought is poor and poor expression" in such hour as this, and yet how fittingly in

Longfellow's '-Death of the Flowers" do we find at least a poor expression of Mary's character and the regret with which her friends meet her untimely taking away: Anil*! thought of lior who In her youthful
