Tho case of John Lane, of Crawfords v.iile, against the board of county com .liisBioners was brought up in the circuit •ourt this morning. Several weeks ago the commissioners advertised that thoy would on a certain dny let t.he contrac for building the Ilicks & Haines gravel road and Lane wns one of the bidders When the bids were opened Dane's was found to be the lowest but the contract for some reason was let to Howard Byimm. Lane then brought suit against them claiming thnt according to notice she contract was his. To this tho cbm missionera answered that it had been in the notice that thoy "reserved any and all right to reject any bid." The case was tried yesterday and tho decision the court was that tho plaintiff have no damages and be required to pay all costs. The case will likely he njijiealod

She had written a letter and placed it under hor pillow, giving direction for the disposition of tho remains of herself and boy. WIND SWEEPS A CITY.
HAMILTON, O., July 10.—At 3:40 p. in. riday a terrilie wiudstorm swopt over the northern portion of this city, causing great destruction. It upproached from the west, and tlrststruck the pulpmill of the Louis Snider's Sons Company on North Second street. The entire west end of the building was blown in. The bricks und timbers fell on five men who were working in tho pulproom. The roof was torn to pieces and carried some (Usance. Two of the five men received fatal injuries and the others were seriously hurt. Smokestacks were blown down at the Niles tool works, Gordon pump works and Black and Clauson's shops. Snider company's loss will reach several thousands. Much small damage was done to houses throughout the city.

CINCINNATI. July to.—A cloudburst struck the city at iliHO p. m. Friday. There was a perfect deluge of water and a violent wind coming from the west prevailed for half an hour. It passed direotly through the city, unroofed several houses and broke down the wires generally. The fence around the ball park was laid flat. One end of the Banner brewery wns torn off and tho upper part of an adjoining houso wrecked. At Fourteenth and Contral avenue the roof of William A. Ward's houso was torn off. It fell on Ward and caused injuries that will result in death. At Sixth and Lock a baby named McMillan was caught by a falling roof and fatally crushed. These are the only serious accidents. The torm jumped across the river and did much damage in Covington and Newport in the way of partially unroofing houses and leveling fences. Continuing up the river it lifted a lumber pile at
Hellevuc into the river. At Epworth Heights camp ground, uear Loveland, the lightning did great damage to the grain. Henry Emerson's little child was probably fatally shocked, its shoes beiug torn off. The mother wns also struck and remained unconscious for an hour. Tljere were various narrow escapes during the storm. Ernest West was blown quite a distance from the top of a lumber pile on West Liberty street and severely but not dangerously hurt. A tree fell across the horses attached to a street car on Freeman street, killed one horse, stopped the ear anil demonstrated a narrow escape to the passengers.

ST. PAI'I., Minn., July 10.—Three persons, names unknown, were killed bv lightning during a hailstorm in Lac qui Parle county Thursday, and Paul Hunzicker was killed in the same manner near Cottonwoort.
MOUNT STKIU.IN'O, Kv., July 10. During a thunderstorm near here Thursday two persons were killed and I three others rendered unconscious by lightning.
Blew Down Iowa's State Fulr MulMlng. DKS MOINT.S, la., July 10.—A severe storm of wind and rain Thursday night did considerable damage to standing grain in this vicinity. The large amphitheater and other buildings on the state fair grounds were destroyed.

HOONK. Ia., July 10.—A terrific wind and rainstorm passed over this region Wednesday night, doing a great amount I of damage. The wind blew a perfect hurricane, while the water fell in torrents at the time. The storm lasted over an hour, flooding everything and raising all the water courses. In this city trees are uprooted in all parts of town. From the country comes news of damage to crops, wheat and oats being badly lodged and corn leveled. Many fields of oats are completely destroyed and corn on low lands washed out.
VIRGINIA. 111., July 10.—A violent windstorm sweptover this section early Friday morning, doing cousiderable damage to crops, leveling hundreds of acres of corn and oats, thereby suspending farm work generally.
WntcrMpont »i*r Canyon City. CANYON* CITY, Col., July 10.—A waterspout was formed above this city Friday in Or:ipe creek, which was Hooded by a heavy rain. The torrent of water rushed down the Arkansas river and through Canyon City with great force, tearing away the Santa Fe railroad bridge and 300 feet of track. Immense damage was done to growing fruit crops in the city and suburbs. The electriclight and waterworks plants in this city are useless.

WAKMINUTON, July 10. —It is stated by the department of agriculture that the inspection of meats, and especially pork, ly the officers of that department under the act of March H, 18111, has had the effect of adding at least one cent a pound to the value of hogs marketed since the withdrawal of foreign prohibition. which resulted from the enforcement of the act.
