To-morrow morting at seven o'clock the special train bound for the Democratic congressional convention at Terre Haute will leave the Vandalin station. The round trip is 81.10 and the Democratic central committee took out 100 tickets as a guarantee. More are expected to be sold, however.
Sale of the Ortli Home.
Dr. M. S. Hopper, formerly of Darlington, but now a resident of LaFayette, has bought the residence property of the late Godlove S. Ortij in that city. It was built by Mr. Orth at a cost of 822.500, and is one of the finest residence sites in LaFayette but Dr. Hopper bought it for 88,000.
Stroke of Paralysis.
Oapt. J. B. Pence suffered yesterday from a stroke of paralysis at his home on east Main street. One Bide of his face was badly affected and he has tern porarily lost the uso of one eye and one side of his mouth. His tongue is un affected, however, and he can take his meals with some discomforture. It is thought that with propel medical atten dance ho will bo able to bo about soon
A Swell Affair.
The dancing club composed of members of the P. O. S. of A. are sparing neither time or expenso to make their dunce to-morrow evening a success. A large number huve beon invited and thoy expect to have everything arranged so as to make the occasion one long to bo remembered by them. The grand march will begin promptly at 8:30 o'clock.
Reception.
Last evening at his home on east Main street Mr. Homor Hills was at home to about fifty of his frionds. The house was handsomely decorated for the occasion and presented a most beautiful appearance. The refreshments served were delicious ana the evening was most pleasantly passed by the guests. One of the features of the evening waa the singing of Miss Blanche Trevey, who favored those present with several very pretty selections.
Still At Large.
Although there is a standing reward of 8200 for each of the burglars who es caped from the county jail Monday night, thoBe gentlemen are still at large. Sheriff Bible and his deputies have covered considerable territory and hear of "suspicious looking chari'cters" from all quarters. It was reported this morning that the negro who robbed the Ynn dalia station had been caught at Lebanon and this afternoon it was- reported that he spent yesterday at Veedeibburg. Thither Sheriff Bible wc-nt post haste and is still there. Grant Agnew thought ho had them sure at Linden yesterday afternoon but last night ot midnight he drove into town empty handed. He did not go to bod, however, but boarding the north bound Monon train he loft for LaFayette where he thought his birds were reposing. At three o'clock no news of the fleeing ones had beon obtained.
His Eeady Bazor.
Many of the friends of Mr. Jim Gill, our esteemed colored citizen, know that his affections are extremely susceptible, and that when thoy ore injured the direct resnltant is the drawing of very large and a very ugly razor. Miss Lizzie Piatt is a charming little brunette who resides over Poole's grocery store and from some cause or other Mr. .Tim fell desperately in love with her. Miss Lizzie did not reciprocate and when Jim knolt at her feet reBtorday and told her that his heart and fortuno and family, tree were at her disposal she spurned him cruelly. Jim's affections were injured so ho drew his razor and went after Miss Lizzie evidently determined to have a slice of the charmer if not all of her. Miss Lizzio escaped and has sworn out a warrant for Jim's arrest. Jim is no where to be found and his frionds fear he has gone nnd jumped into the raging waters of Sugar Crock, there tc seek oblivion from the sorrows of this life.
An Artist.
Tom Lyons, the bald headed burglar who quitted our town so rudely the -her ovouing, is an artist of no mean merit and tl white walls of tho jail are completely covered with evidences of his surpassing skill. Some designs are quito startling and represent, for example, lingo snakes crawling out of huge cups which presumably have hold wine in their timo. These snakes are of an unusual variety nnd aro probably patterned after some which Torn saw in his boots during the gladsome days of his yuith. Tom has also placed mottoes about on the wall in very loud lottors.
O110
is a glaring eulogy of his
nttornoys, llannu & Hanna. While just under tlip window from which tho prisoners escaped is noatly drawn, "Home, Hoino, Sweet, Sweot Home." Tom was evidently acting~on the inspiration of theso works when he kicked the bars out of tho window. What might be considered suggestive stares every visitor in the face upon his entrance and roads as follows: 4 •TI10 rose Is red. the violets blue, 11' you'vo uny (olmeeo Klve

A Goose Nibble Bobbery.
Goose Nibble hns again arisen in her fair fame and claimed the attention of ever admiring publio. Last evening
Big Four freight train rolled in and put up for the night on a switch on tho edge of the Nibble. The geese looked up from their peaceful lunoheon of young frogs and tadpoles and remarked each other that brakemen and conductors were getting mighty careless of other people's property in these degenerate days. And so, in fact, it seems. The brakemen, after the train stopped, walked over to the Junction HOUBB bar rail on the evils of intemperance and try to induce the bar keeper to change his mode of life. While they were gone some persons to fame, fortune and polioe unknown walked over through the wet, muddy mud and with an ax chopped open three defenseless freight cars. In one of these cars was a sack of seed potatoes and a large box of ladies' fine shoes for O. B. Arms. The persons unknown very inconsiderately emptied the potn toes out on the floor and then selected 13 pairs of fine shoes and put them in the sack. From one of the other cars they took a large consignment of cove oysters and from another enough corn beef to feed the convention at Terre Haute to morrow. The police were informed this morning and are now looking for the guilty parties. All Goose Nibble is agog with expectation and every Nibbler eyes his neighbor askance as much as to say, "You dono it."
Affirmed,
Tho case of Clow & Son, of Chicago against John S. Brown and others, officers of the old Water Works Company which was decided ugainst the plaintiff by the Montgomery-county court, has been affirmed by the Supreme Court. A rehearing will be asked by Clow & Son Judge Miller, who rendered the decis ion, states that in an action against di rectors of a corporation by creditors for failure to collect the capital stock of the corporation, it was not error to reject oral evidence concerning the issuing of slock to other parties where there was written contract, that being the best evidence of tho purpose and circum stances under which the stock was is sued. 2. Statement of an officer of the corporation as to the cost of its plant made before the Bourd of Equali zalion is not competent evidence in such action.
