Dr. John L. Smith, of Valparaiso, is tho only snperannnted minister present at Oniiihn. He is over SO years of nge, vet is more vigorous than scores of the younger delegates. By a vote of the conference he was invited to a seat on the platform with the bishops. lu a neat and eloquent speech he declined to accept the offered honor, preferring to remain on the conference floor with his colleagues.
The Coming Attraction.
Tho most artistic and powerful of what may be called, without depreciation, the Sensational artiste, will play at DeGive's on next Monday and Ttiesiltiv nights, lie will render his great play of "Davy Crocliett," than which no more thrilling and charming dramn was ever put upon the boards. Mayo, as "Crockett," is fixed sensation in the dramatic world, and he lias held tho best theatres in the metropolitan cities for whole seasons without displacement. Indeed, we believe that this is his first tour through the provinces." We trust that he will have such a house on Monday and Tuesday as will put him in love with Atlanta, and render his visits frequent in the future. Mayo is the one actor that all other actors praise. There is deprecation, once in awhile, of Booth, Barrett, Davenport, and all of them except Mayo. Whenever you mention his name lo one of the profession, you have nothing but praise—praise of him as an artist and a grntleman.—Atlanta (Ga.) I'ape.t.
Burned Out.
New Market is rejoicing to-day and the sounds of celebration can be heard for far around. Yesterday tho saloon which they have been fighting so assiduously lor many months, went up in flames and all is now charred black ruins, where a few hours ago all was whisky, beer, cut glass bottles and a sawdust covered lloor. The richly carved ivory bar and the six pounds of Limberger cheese are no more, while all that remains of the magnificont pool table is a piece of tar roofing which had been used as a substitute for green baise cloth. The bar keeper was just in the act of adding a solution of blue vitriol, benzine and lye to the whisky barrel, whi?li was getting low, when the dreadful cry of fire caused him to spill a portion of the solution on his boot and burn off two toes. The palatial saloon was fast being licked up by tho cruel, hungry tlames and the joyous citizens gathered around and involuntarily from every throat a shout arose to the height of some ten feet. The hook and ladder company adued to tho awful horror of tho scene bv sticking in a mud puddle and emitting a huge volume of pale blue profanity. Mr. Freed's bar keeper refreshed tl« audience by distributing well watered beer at twenty-five cents a glass. But all in vain, tho place was doomed and in spite of the heroic efforts of the barkeeper the conflagration did its deadly work. Mr. Freed was in town this morning looking for a vacant house. Tho loss is a terriblo blow to him, of course, but if he succeeds in getting his insurance money he will take it and bilild two saloons at New Market, either of which will bo far more im])osing tlii'.n the one which is now lamented.

CINCINNATI MOSIOAL FESTIVAL.
Unusual Ohanco to Hear tho Best Hinging. Cincinnati, April 1802.- The Tenth Biennial Musical Festival at Cincinnati, May 2-t, 2t", 20, 27, and 28, will be remarkable for tho number and celebrity of the soloists. They are ten, and represent in their birth America, England, Ireland, France and Germany. Edward Lloyd, the famous English tenor, is a groat favorite with May Festival audiences. Those who hoaid him eing "Oh, Hachol" at the last concert of the Ninth Festival felt genuine sorrow at tho thought that they might never hear him sing again. The anticipation of hearing him once more is a source of pleasure to thousands. The Festival Association was fortnnate in securing the services of Mr. Lloyd for the present Festival. In the history of the Cincinnati Musical Festival, covering, as it does, the successes and triumphs of so many noted soloists, there is not a singer who has loft so famous record behind him as this greatest of English tenors. His engagements for the last two Festivals have been successions of veritable triumphs. The enthusiasm with which he has been greeted by thousands of the musical elite of tho city and from all over the country was as spontaneous as it was genuine. His plnin English ihethod, his clear, distinct enunciation of the text, his fine musical feeling, his massive, correct conception of oratorio, his manly, dignified interpretation, free from u!'l mannerisms, stamped him. what ho was long ago acknowledged to be. the princo'of English tenors. Mr. Lloyd's recitative in its grand simplicity was like a prayer his solos were like inspirations from the skies. There was no effort apparent in the management of that voice. It was responsive to the expression of the highest musical thought in conformity with the ideas of tho immortal composer. Tho Tenth Festival will have an auspicious opening, as "St. Paul" will be given the first night. He will sing in Dvorak's "Requiem Mass.' Bach's "Christmas Oratorio," "Euryanthe." '•Die Meistersinger," as well as two solos at the Thursdav matinee.
The Baptist Church Removal.
To the Editor or The .Iouhnai. In answer to ths article which appeared in your paper of the 10th, inst., I will say: In the first place I have never said that I would prosecute the Baptist church trustees if they moved their church out ou tho street. If things were stated correctly, and especially by church people, the world wojild be better off for their being in it and the cause of Christianity would be advanced. Now to a true state of facts: I have a contract by which I can keep my bulletin board on the lot from mouth to month and must be notified when the ground is wanted for some other purpose and that I have the usual tliirty days time to "vacate the same. I would sooner be ostracized from all society than be in the way of advancing the cause or Christianity. I asked the church if they would guarantee that after they were through using it as a place of worship they would move it I would at once get off tho ground and give thorn absolute control of saino. If the owner of the grounds would agree to remodel the building and make it a two story business or dwelling house that would be a credit to Main street, one of the best streets in tho town, I would at once give immediate possession. But I Bin opposed to the placing of the building on this corner and there remain an eye sore Tor how long no one knows. Itespectfnlly Yours,-

The readers of this paper will be pleased to learn that there is one dreaded disease that science has been able to cure in all its stages and that is Catarrh. Hall's Catarrh Cure is the only positive cure now known to the medical fraternity. Catarrh being a constitutional disease, requires a constitutional treatment. Hall's Catarrh Cure is taken internally, acting directly on the blood and mucous surfaces of the system, thereby destroying the foundation of the disease, and giving the patient strength by building up the constitution and assisting nature in doing its work. The proprietors have so much faith i" its curative power that they offor One Hundred Dollars for any case that it fails to cure. Sond for list of Testimonials.
