Democratic members of the
House number just 07 more than rpioru of that body, but so many of them arc constantly away from their seats th the cry of "no quorum" is becomin very common, and of late it is no ex aggeration to say thai, far mor» time has iK'en wasted in "culls of the House than has been consumed in transacting business. And the worst of the matter is that a majority of the Democrat when some of their more sensible co leagues have proposed ways and means of putting a stop to the absenteeism seem to regard the whole matter as huge joke. Perhaps when they see th returns of the next Congressional elec tions they will find that the jeopIe who Hent them here to attend the legislative duties have put the joke on them by electing a Republican majority to the House.

ILL ESTABLISH AE INSTITUTE.
Drs. Hurt and Hamilton, of Waynetown, Will Treat Victims of Inebnacy. l^rs. Hurt and Hamilton have opened an institute at Wavnetown for the ire of drunkenness and the opium habit, which promises to be equal in erv respect to Keelev's. They use the double chloride of gold and sodium with other remedies, hypodermically four times daily, together with medicine internally every two hours when awake. Patients are allowed their customary stimulant ns long as they desire it, but usually abandon it iu three or four days, becoming thoroughly disgusted with it. The treatment'as administered by Drs.
Hurt and Hamilton not ouly destroys the appetite for strong drink but re stores the health of the patient. All they ask of the patient is to exorcise will power sufficient to submit himself for treatment and they will do the rest. They will guarantee a cure in every caw eated by them, inside of thirty days. All ordinat cases will be cured in twenty-cne days. Last, but not least, they will save the patient £'_!5 by going there, which in no small item to many atllicted with inebriety.Any person who is interested sufficient to call on or write the doctors will receive prompt replies to all inquiries. Will also be glad to refer them to some of tie patients who have undergone this treatment, and to any or all of the business men of Waynettyvn for further, information. ,-

tion, makes the following unkind cracl at the Mar and the Swallo'vtailed central committee: "This result was not unexpected, in fact was predicted by a r.r who had observed tho drift of political matters. A goodly number of Democrats remained away fro-.n the polls indifferent as to the results, but lor tl complete defeat now recorded in the city against the party most of it can be attributed to the astute managers of the city Central Committee. They were exceedingly brilliant o'itical lightp, whose every action aroused the contempt of scores of men who have alwavs voted the ticket. 15r good management and a pull together two coun••ilmen could have been elected and a city officer or two iu spite nf the large
Republican majority, but instead, in lesa than a week after the nominations had been made the committee by ite actions had succeeded iu driving a dozen or more persons into joining the -Hepublican Morton club. The party is indeed in tine shape when controlled by such persons both in city and county. ai= are now at the head of it. They have hail their lirnt inning on Tuesday: it seemed, however to have been more of an outing, .lust let them remain at the head of political control, let their system prevail during the ensuing'cam paign and the result in the' county can
i)« easily foretold.

The school board met yesterday afternoon at three o'clock with their architect, T. H. Tinsloy, and made final decision on plans. The estimate of Brown, Ketcham A- Co., of Indianapolis, on an irou frame work for the roof nlotie was 512,000 and they could not deliver the iron for four months. This scheme was therefore abandoned. It was thought necessary, however, to get a roof on the building immediately in order to preserve the interior from tho weather so a frame superstructure will be built and covered with metal. As a further protect ion from fire steel ceilings will bo used on the upper rooms similar to the ones in Yandes Library. The tower will Iu of slow burning constructure. The two north rooms on tho third lloor together with the corridor will be miido into an assembly hall, (50 by 45 feet. A svstem of direct ventilation will bo adopted by which the bad air will pass out and upward through ducts which meet in a mental chamber in the tower and thence ontside. Hv the plana ia opted the total expense will be loss than S'20,000, while tho amount of insurance received was $22,700.
