fLASREBfROMOVEBTEE OITZ,
—A good bell boy can obtain a posi-
lion nt the Nutt hotel. Harry Morgan was able to drive down town this morning lifter a long sickness.
Frank Snyder and wife and Walter Snyder left this morning for visit at Middletown, Ohio. —The membership of Friendship I.ndgo. I. O. G. T„ are earnestly requested to attend the meeting to-night —The ProhHiitioners will hold their congressional convention at Torre Haute on Friday, May 13. Friday and 13 Such an nnlncky combination ma_\ cause the defeat of their candidate. —The proprietors of the Junction
House desire to return their thanks to the fir# department for the promptness of their arriTu.l and the efficiency of their work in arresting what promised to bo a destructive conflagration. —The farm residence 'of Charles jraguire. four miles north of DarlingIOD, was entirely consumed by 2i yesterday morning, caused from a defective tine. As the men were not at home most of their household goods were lost. Loss about 81,000, insured iu the Home of New York for $400.
The Monon summer time curd will go in effect ubout April 27th. New vestibule fast trains will be put on. leaving Louisville rnd Chicago at noon and arriving at terminal points at 9 p. in., making the rnn in the unprecedented time of nine hours for the entire distance. They will stop only at principal stations.
Nearly Killed "Ni?."
"Nig" Seering lies in the jail at Covington with his head cracked and frightful bruises all over his person. Ever-Bince he was taken from the Cr»wfordsville jail to Covington, the young man hns been giving the Sheriff all the trouble he could. Ho would throw the dishes through the bars at the Sheriff's young chickens and killed several. He
tore up bis blanket and mating a rope lassoed the little ohildren that wore playing "Skip-tum-a-loo" on the sidewalk Rnd deported himself after the manner of the hc-athen generally. Yesterday ho put up a job to assassinate Deputy Sheriff Lum Zimmerman and for this purpose he secured a heavy iron bar and concealed it in his cell. "Nig" is a great talker however, and disclosed his intentions to a fellow prisoner. Zimmerman happened being in the basement and hearing the conversation went up and strode at once into the cells. "Nig" struck at him viciously with the iron bar but Zimmerman who was on the alert dodged and then before "Nig" could rally closed with him. Zimmerman id a powerful fellow and pounded the' youth fearfully. When released, however, "Nig" again rushed at him and
Zimmerman cracked his head laying him out senseless on the floor. "Nig" now has his head done up in vinegar and brown paper and will be nnnble to receivo his friends for a iew davs.
The Oonnty Fair.
••The County Fair" is carried in two special cars, and the piny will IKI em bellished in the same complete manner aa in New York. Two great senti metal and sensational features nre introduced, viz.: An old-fashioned husking bee, in which a score or more people are used, a rnnniug horse race, in which threo thoroughbreds are seen running full tilt in all the enthusiasm of a close finish. In this scene over 10.000 pounds of machinery are used. Of tho play Fitself it is generally described aa superior to "The Old Homestead" in its portraynl of New England churacter. Tho conservative critic of tho New York Herald says: "The play is sweet as the odor of freah hav and tho laughter of village maidH 111 midsummer."
A Small Fire.
4 o'clock from the
Yesterday afterncon about an alarm of fire was sent in Junction house. The fire originated in tho garret from a defective fluo and was discovered by Dan Sullivan who had it almost under control when the department arrived. The work of the department noon wound it up arid tho loss was slight.

The National flower,
Another good nfldience welcomed the National Flower at Music Hall last iovening anil another oxcelleut porforinance was given by the children. In some respects, especially the drills, tho uteitainment was a decided improvement over the exhibition of Thursday night. The tlowers all appeared to excellent advantage and were all heartily encored. The attorneys' part in tho performance was marred by the absence of Mr. Thomson, who was unexpectedly iilltid from tho city, leaving the ladies to select a substitute with no knowledge of the music or notion. Tho singing was, if anything, better than tho evening before and Misses Morgan,
Kline, MotTetl, Campbell and Cowan appeared to tho best advantage. Tho minuet as presented by the lilies was one of tho features of the evening and caused no little favorable comment. The entertainments weremest gratifying to those in charge, as they were not only successful from an artistic standpoint but from a financial standpoint as well, something lilys $800 being cleared by tho two nights' performance.
It has been generally remarked that more successful ameteur exhibition was never given in the city. Much of the credit of this success is due to Stanley Simpson, who had tho performers in charge and who so conducted affairs that there wus no clash or any of those embarnssing pauses usually so frequent in entertainments of a similar nature. Mr. Simpson is to be congratulated as indeed are all who worked so hard and who took 6uch an interest in making the affair a splendid success.
For Treasurer.
John B. Kice is announced in to-dny's JOURNAL as a candidate for Treasurer of Montgomery county before the Republican convention to bo held on May 7. Mr. Kice is a young man of most excellent abilities and has had large experience in clerical work.' He is a man of unquestioned integrity and is popular with all classes of people. During A. F. Ramsey's time as Treasurer he was the deputy in the office and since then has been employed ne bookkeeper in the Citizens' National Bank. Should the convention give him the nomination he will be a tower of strength to the ticket.
Spence is Thankful.
John Spence, of Spence"* People'n Paper. thus returns thanks to Charley Berry for a couple of Bhovel handles.
Last Tuesday Charley Berry sent us over a couple of sample shove! handles, his own mnke, whieh for superiority of finish, strength and toughness could not be beat in any factory in the Union. We are glad to know that our printer friend is Buch an adept, but ngnin are not surprised when wo take into consideration that he spent five the best years of his life in Michigan City in a4 handle factory, and during that time was not bothered by loafers or pryii eyes on account of a high fence "thai surrounded tho enc.osure.
.From the Outside.
We are delighted with our opera, the National Flower. Many praises are given. We were proud of our judge, in hia dignity, and in love with his Bongs.' The daises, in snowy dress, the drill of the roses, the busy talkative jury, our learned^nd musical barristers, a critical audience. But most of all we were interested with tho weeds. They rushed upon the stage from every corner, and standiag close together as weeds do, in clear, sweet voices they told us they were only weeds. At the close of the lastecene, when tho opera intableanx was before us as a pasture of liying tlowers, we could look upon and admire the "judge and jury," the dear little daisies, the roses, red, white and yellow, the pond lily, graceful eun (lower, the stately oak, the ugly onion, the dear old maids—nil were there. Far away in tho back ground, there stood, dressed in living green, the weeds, almost the neatest, and sweetest and brightest of all. X. Z.

There ts more Catarrh in this section of the country than all other diseases put together, and -until the last few years was supposed to be incurable. For a great many years doctors pronounced it a local disease, anil proscribed local remedies, and by constantly failing to cure with local treatment, pro--notinced incurable. Science has proven catarrh to be a constitutional disease, and therefore requires a constitutional treatment. Hall's Catarrh Cure, manufactured by F. J. Cheney Co., is the only constitutional cure on the market. It is taken internally in doses from 10 drops to a teaspoonful. It acts directly on the blood and mucous surfaces of the system. They offer one hundred dollar for any case it fails to cure! Send for circulars.and testimonies. AddresR.
