The Yandes Ooterie,
The Yandes Coterie met Saturday evening in the olTice of J. L. Shruin and listened lo an entertaining paper by Prof. J. H. Ransom, on "John Daltoa." Mr. Ransom considered tho life of the great chemist an epocli in history and the introduction of the atomic theory as by Dnlton a revolution in scieDce. The paper was carefully prepared and showed no little study and research.
An Alliance Picnic.
Saturday was a day for the Alliance men near New Ross. One passing along tho Lebanon gravel road would bo BUT prised see buckets, baskets and sacks of rich provisions setting on boxes and around tho Hmert school house. It was evident that they were preparing for their annual feast of baked beans and '•orn. Several visitors were present and after dinner speeches were thought to lie in order. Several of the young politicians spoke, after which Dave Shockley, the poet mugwump, arose and in a four hours' speech fairly worked the joyous throng up to Biich heat that thoy were as near one as men ever got. Davy is fiurely a politician and with his seedy looks ho runs a chance of being nom inateil to fill somo otlice. Tho orgies continued iar into the night.
Tho Doctor is Sore.
It was generally supposed Saturday that Dr. lironaugh would be re-nomi-nated by acclamation for Coroner, but when Jim Robbins, of his township, was put lip for Assessor, the Doctor was cooked and thrf" convention nominated Culver, of Wayuetown. Rronaugh got up in the convention and said he never did givo a snap of his finger for the office but that he had merely taken it to help our the ticket. When he was kicked off, however, simply because his township had another man, Rronaugh of course felt soro and went homo to New Ross chewing tho rag energetically. Tho Doctor ascribed his defeat to the fact that he had worked against Wren and having expressed his disgust in no mild language he concluded with the statement that '-it was ono thing to nominate a man but a blank sight bigger thing to eleot him." The Doctor is dead right on this point.
For Representative.
Gilbert Gray, of Walnut township, is announced in to-day's JOUHNAL as a candidate for Representative before the Republican convention to be held in this city on May 7. Mr. Gray was born in North Carolina 48 years ago. When eight years of ago he came with his father to this State and located on a farm near Cannel, Hamilton county, where ho grew to manhood ond at the age of eighteen enlisted in Co. F, 10th Indiana regiment and served with that organization until it was mustered out and then was transferred to tho 58th Indiana and marched with -Sherman to the sea. In 1877 ho came to this county and bought a farm in Walnut township whore he IIIIB since resided. Ho is one of the most active farmers and stockraisers in tho county, and in everything which has for its object the development and building up of his neighborhood, township and county he has taken a leading and coiiFpicuous part. Ho is a thoroughgoing Republican and has ever taken an active interest in politics having in now the SUCCOES of his party ticket. He is popular and if nominated will come uuder tho wiro several lengths ahead of his opponent.

EASTER SERVICES.
Most of tho churches had special Easter services in tho evening for tho children but owing to tho heavy rain thoy wore sadly interfered with nnd but small audiences were able to attend.
Special tnuBic, lovely flowers and a beautiful Easter sermon by the pastor, Rev. G. P. Fuson, delighted the audience of the Baptist church yesterday, Rev. FUBOD'B sermon WHS carefully'S prepared and showed originality and deep thought. It was a lenutifnl Easter servipe and one long to bo remembered by tho congregation.
Dr. Cunningham delivered two most excellent sermons yesterday giving his hearers a new insight into the moaning of Euslor. The choir rendered some fine music appropriate to the day, boing assisted by Mrs. A. B. Andorson and Mrs. C. L. Thomas. Tho floral decora lions wore beautiful and more profuse than for years. The flowers were furnished freo of charge by Mrs. Anthony VnnLeven.
The services at tho First Presbyterian church yesterday morning were of an entertaining character, un excellent Eastor sorinon being delivered by the pastor, Rev. R. S. Inglis, who preached from Luke 24-34 ond turneu the occa sion to good nccount by a pointed and polished address. Tho audience room was prettily and tastefully decorated and the music of a high standard, choBen exproesly for its appropriateness for the occasion.
The Christian church had boon handsomely decorated yesterday and uround tho sparkling fountain just in tho ro'ir of tho altar banks of flowers and bright blossoms glistened under thoir burden of spray. Special music was rendered by tho choir and proved to be of most expressive und enjoyable character. The sermon by Rov. S. W. Brown doait with tho crucifixion nnd the resurrection of the ChriBl and was a masterly effort A largo nudiencc was present and not a vacant Beat remained in the large and commodious audience room.
The services at tho Methodist church yesterday morning woro among the most successful of Rev. G. W. Switzer's pas toralo. The church had been beautiful ly decorated with heavy banks of palms, trailing vines and bououots of cut (lowers which gave the handsomo and ienco room almost the appearance of great conservatory. Before tho time for the arrival of the Knights Templar all the soats, save those reserved for the order, had been taken and the chapel was open to nccommodate the immense audrenco. The Knights made an imposing appearance as they eutered in full regalia and took the seats assigned them on tho front rows. The music was appropriate for the occasion and included a benutiful anthem by the choir and 11 bass solo by Mr. McNutt Tho sermon of tho pastor waB taken from the test, "He iB Risen" ond was a strong effort in every particular. It was an Easter day sermon and abounded in beautiful thought and expression. Tho latter part was addressed to the visiting order and was of peculiar interest to its members. Mr. Switzer 16 to be highly complimented on his effort of yesterday. Tho reading of the "Apostle's Creed" and other work by tho Knight's Templar innde tho service all tho more beautiful and impressive.
