A ,n:iXiE of small caliber at Terre Haute has Bhown hip personal vindictivene^s by arraigning W. O. Fishback before his royal hjghtiess for alleged contempt. I'ishback's offense consisted ID criticising the action of the court in pntting an cud to the investigation into the Ecandals concerning the contracts for city sewers and pavement.'. For presuming to call in question the action of the Judge that functionary assessed a line of S100 against Fishback and sent him to jail for thirty days. TUB free trade professors and theorists occasionally tell the truth and th whole truth in a way that the free trade politicians can uot imitate. In fact, the blunt truth often distresses the latter. Take for instance, tho following from Walker's Political Economy, page 51fi ]t is perfectly true, as t'e protectionist asserts, that a tariff of customs duties upon* foreign goods imported into new countries, tends to create and maintain high rates of wages in the factory industries.

Mr. Walker is a"•'distinguished jxil itical economist and free trade loader but he is entitled to praise chiefly far telling the truth.

OJJK of the important amendments ti tho election law provides that the square on the ballots in front of tho title of each party is abolished, and the device or emblem is to be enclosed iu a square not less than one and one-half inches on each side. Names of candidates must be exactly three-fourths of an inch apart, and the square before each name must be three-eights of an inch on each side. A voter who wishes to vote a straight ticket of -either party must stamp within the large square. If he wishes to )te for any candidate not on his party ticket he must not stamp the large square at all but must stamp the square before each and every name he wishes to vote for, on whatever ticket they may appear.
