There is more Catarrh in this section of the country than all other diseases put together, and until the last fewyears was supposed to be incurable. For a great many years doctors pronounced it a local disease, and prescribed local remedies, and by constantlyfailing to cure with local treatment, pronounced incurable. Science has proven catarrh to be a constitutional disease, and therefore requires a constitutional treatment. Hall's Catarih Cure, manufactured by F. J. Cheney Co., is the only constitutional cure on the market. It is taken internally in doses from 10 drops to a teaspoonful. It acts directly on the blood and mucous surfaces of tho system. They offer one hundred dollar for any caso it fails to cure. Send for circulars and testirjioni-ils. Address.

A FREE TRADE SCREED.

To ihe Kditorof The Journal. In* your Inst week's issue* you say that "protection has been steadily decreasing the price of the people's clothing for the last twenty-five years until now it has become about as low as it is anywhere on earth." If it be true that the price of clothing is now almost as low as it is anywhere on earth," what is the necessity ot maintaining a protective duty on ready-made clothing of -t9.', cents per pound and (JO per cent, advalorem. On a suit of coarse woolen clothes weighing six pounds and worth 30, the duty would be 80,07, bsing 07 cents more than the cost of the suit in the hands of the importer before the duty is added. Now when the importer pays this duty which he can not avoid under the MeKinley law, tlo.-s it not add to the price of the snit the precise amount of the duty, 8G,G7, and defes not tho "poor and lowly voter, he who constitutes four fifths of the people," have this duty to pay which would mak a SO suit cost the consumer $12.07, If, however, it- be alleged that the foreign manufacturer pays the duty, will he not have to gi'e his goods away and pay a bounty to tho importer of 07 cents for taking them, as tho duly excoeds the-price he gets for the suit by 07 cents.

trv-

SKK the new Spring Wraps iiischof is showing for Easter wear.

GKEAT bargains in dress goods and trimmings to match for KaBter wear at Bicchof's this week.

Again why discriminate in favor of the manufacturer as against tho wool grower. The duty ou raw wool is only 11 cgnts per pound on six pounds of raw wool the duty would amount to only Oti cents, while on the six pounds of the same wool in the hands of the manufacturer the duty would be $0.(17 [s this not an important discrimination between citizens laboring under precisely the same condition, viz: "competing with the product of the "pauper abor" of. foreign countries. If pro cction reduces the price of protected uticles, will it not ultimately result in the lowering of wages of employes. Whenever the price of tho raw material that enters into manufactured articles is reduced to the cost of production, what !ver reduction is thereafter made will have, to be borne by the wage earners. To Assert that to lower the price of tho product of labor, will increase the wages of llie laborer, is to assert that to lower the price of farm product will increase the price of the land, which would be an absurdity BO patent that it would not create any contention except among foolB. If protection dor-s not increase tho price of tho protected article or insure the American manufacturer a bet ter price for his goods than he would without protection it is a failure hence cannot enable him to pay better wages to his employees. Would any intelli gent person, except an unscrupulous cemagogue, attempt, to convince a farmer with intelligence enough to know the difference between the decalogue and a political platform, that to reduce the entire product of his farm would thereby enable him to pay higher wages to hi.i employes on the farm,

The average price of farm labor in this State is now 822 per month. Xow Bup-])6se-the price of corn, uheat, rye, oats, barley, potatoes, beef and pork, being the product of labor, bo reduced 20 to 50 per cen, would it increase the wages of tho farm laborer or oven enable the farmer to pay higher wages? if it would not by what process of reasoning can it be established that to reduce the price of the manufacturers product, (which protectionists claim protection does,) it will thereby increasj tho vngea of his employes or enable him to pay better wages. That the consumer pays whatever duty is paid on our foreign importations I no more doubt than that the owners of property pays tho assessment placed upon his property for taxes, •lames G. Blaine in his Twenty Years in Congress in speaking of th« increased duty placed on imports by tho tariff act of 1802 said, "ttiis shuttiug out still

more conclusively all competition with foreign fabrics. Tho increased cost (by this tariff act) was charged to tho consumer.'' Mugwump,

IS SPRING A FAILURE?

M.iy I'LorLi: FUEL THAT IT IS.

If It Is Xot So Joyous aft It Once UVur. Is It Sot Your Own Vault

You wrote a composition when you were a child in school beginning, ".Spring is the pleasantest season of the year," auU so it was then. There was every reason why it should bo pleasant to you. You were in gcocl health. "Life beat high" within you. Y'ou had sentiment, ambitious, happiness. Tho winter had passed, the llowers wore blooming, the birds were singing. Certainly spring was to you then "the plea?antest season of the year."

But how is it now? Do you feel the same joyousncss, happiness, and anticipation that you did then? Are you filled with hop-.* or possibly are yon weak, lauguid, despondent, depressed? Perhaps your head aches, yon feel tired, and there is a lack of ail interest and joy ill life where ouco in the springtime ail wns anticipation and happiness.

Do yon know the reason for this hange? It is because you are not wdl, because your vitality is cot so great as when in you teens. Do you know what you need?, Something to help you: something that will prove friend in need something that will restore you and place where you were in youth, which will make life pleasant and happy, and which will again make •spring the pleasantest season of t.he year." Do you know what will do this? Wo will not at tempt to tell you, but will show you what others have done, and which yon may do if you will follow the same wise courso pursued by them. Read tlicir words:

Dr. A. C. Clark, a well known New York physician, says: "I have never known case of spring debility, spring fever, or any of the troubles which irise during this season which has not been promptly and permanently cured by tho use of Warner's Safe Cure. Its power at this time of year is wonderful 1 have seen women, run down by care and overwork men whose vitality was exhausted, and even puny children restored to perfect health through its use." :.,r

Mrs. M. M. Simbnsonj of Buckley .Mo., says: "My daughter, who was once the perfection of health and liap piness, was for years aJllicted with kid dey and liver disease, complicated with scrofula, the hip joint being afTectcd She became so bad thnt tho doctors wanted to nnjoint her hip. I would not consent to it, and began administering a remedy which I had heard much abont and I am happy to say she is now cured, well and healthy, by tho uso of

Warner's Safe Cure." Mr. 11. E. Mayo, of House's Point, N Y., says: "Two years ago had torri ble boils on my face, and my blood was fearfully out of order. I began the use of Warner's Safe Cure the boils left as if by magic, and I have never since been troubled with them."

If yon are depressed, weak, run dow by the influences of the season, follow the advice above given. Yon will certainly find it profitable and valuable. The renewing power of this groat cure is beyond estimation. It stands, as it deserves to stand, i't tho head of all modern discoveries for tho cure of sickness and tho renewal of life.

1'nrr and Wholcnome Quality Commends to tho public approval the California liquid laxative remedy, Syrup of Figs. It is ploas:nt to tho laste anil by acting gently ou the kidneys, liver and bowels to cleanse the system effectually. it promotes t.he health and coinfoil of all who use it, and with millions
