A GREAT ENTERTAINMENT.
The High School Benefit Concert Proves a Financial and Musical Success. l'eoplo went early to Musio Hall laut evening in order to secure good Bents and even tlioso who arrived after 7:30 o'clock hnd to take inferior accomodations. Tho hall was crowded by an intelligent and appreciative audience which thoroughly enjoyed overy number. There was not a poor piece tendered during the evening nnd^ome were simply Buperb. Tho instrumental duets of Misses StillwelL and Newton, and Misses M'Mechan and Watson elicited much deserved applause. Mr. Humphrey's rendition of the "Doom of Claudius aud Cynthia," was excellent and commanded the close attention of tho iiudience. The piano solos of Miss Landman and Mr. Brnndkanip were excellent. Miss Landman is possessed of rare skill and ranks with tbe best musicians of the city. The s.i'.o of Miss Mary Campbell with the Hute obligato by Prof. Milford caused no little comment of a most favorable nature. The ladies quartette composed of Mesdames Thomas and Walter and Misses Cowan and Wolfe, gave a very pleasing selection as did the quartette composed'of Mrs. Thomas, Miss Cowan, and Messrs. McXutt and McCain. The vocal solos of Misses Schweitzer and Xicholson were of an excellent character and high standard and were heartily encored. Mrs. Inglis' musical rendition of "Barbara Fritchie" was unique as well as exceedingly fine and was greatly appreciated by tho audience. Especial memtion should bo made of tho banjo BOIO of Mr. Hunter. It was simply wonderful and experienced banjo players declared that they could not see how he so skillfully executed difficult parts. Lee Smith's solo on the mandolin with guitar accompaniment by Mr. Hunter wr.s very pleasurable as was their encore. The Music Hall orchestra furnished seme excellent spec'al music and appeared to good advantage. The tableaux by the little children who appeared in brilliant costumes and repre sented the three great scenes in the life of Columbus, were very fine and the spectacle probably rivaled tho grand presentation of Kiralfy Brothers now being put on in Xew York.
The only fizzle during the evening was tho attempt to get the audience to sing America at the last. Everybody was rushing for the door and tbe song broke off abruptly at the end of the first stanza. The good people, did not lack patriotism, but they lacked time.
GEORGE BALDWIN'S RIVAL,
How He Oame Near Losing Anita to a New York Flame. The following from the Associated Frees will bo of interest to George Baldwin's friends in this county:
All the ardent lovers of the frontier who have captured brides with the shot gun are outdone by pretty Anita, eev-enteen-year-old daughter of the famous Lucky Baldwin, of San Francisco. The native of California is said to "develop a temperament as inflammable as that of sunny Italy, and when Miss Anita was fifteen her father declared he must take her away from school. It was out of the frying pan into tho fire, however, for it required but ten days in a Now York boarding house for her to form a marriage contract with Edward Marslnitts. According to his story she suggested that they wed at once, and then she would return to California with her father and wait till his consent could bo obtained. Marshutts hesitated and was lost. Her father took her to the Baldwin home in San Francisco, and within a few months thereafter she and lier distant relative, Goorge Baldwin, were engaged. Her father was equally opposed to that arrangement, so the young couple went out on an ocean excursion last January, and when five miles from shore were united by the Rev. Julius Fuendeling. All this remained a secret till tho young folks left town together a few days ago. MnrBhutts had meanwhile made his way to San Francisco, but when ho met Anita in the street she "didn't know him." It has since 'rnnspired that hor father had sot a detective to work, who had managed to recover all letters from Marshutts the family now declares that the whole story is a whim of his brain, and were it not for a few trifles of collateral evidence the discarded suitor would be in a bad lix. The family presented him with a ticket to New Y'ork and money enough to pay his expenses, but he obtained a position in San Francisco and returned the favors. Baldwin senior's .fortune runs away up iu the millions, and as he has but two daughters, young
George Baldwin may bo considered in luck if the relenting is done all right— and "all the neighbors say"' it will be.

Interview
by Our Correspondent.
WASHINGTON, D. 0., April 11.—The interviews with various prominent men which I recently sent you as to the apparently mysterious cause of the untimely and sudden deaths among them, has aroused a great deal of excitement.
Senntors, representatives and heads of departments all desire that unless Bome steps can be taken to avoid the killing strains of publio life, few prominent men
would
care to run for office.
Bource
it has become fully
apparent that thero ii one great cause for it all, and that oause is the wearing strains upon certain organs of the body which cause their tissues to give way, and hence bring abont sickness or sudden death. I continued the investigation, whioh was reported yesterday, by calling on a number of leading public men.
Hon. Daniel Lockwood, genial and whole souled, has an extensive knowledge of the public men ot the country. He was well aware of the strains to whioh they are subjected, and the sudden deaths which have been so prevalent. "It would seem," he said, "as thongh there should be some way of preventing these things. Our grandfathers hBd family remedies that seemed to preserve health and prolong life, and it would appear as though some modern discovery should be found which would answer the same purpose for the added strains of modern life. I think if anyone has such a discovery it is certainly my friend Warner with his Safe Cure. I know ot a great many people who use it constantly, and I have in mind one gentleman connected with the Govern ment Printing Office here who, together with his wife, has occasion to be exceedingly grateful for the restored health nnd strength which Warner's Safe Oure has imparted."
Hon. H. S. Greenleaf was found in tho House of Representatives. He said: "The exhaustions of public life are certuinly very great, but so also are the strains of business life, of professional life, of social life. I have personal acquaintance with Mr. Warner, the discoverer of the celebrated Safe Cure, and I consider it far superior to any or all other preparations. Certainly any ar tide as popular as that and selling as extensively as it does, must have usual merit.
Probably the most remarkable case of a government official brougnt to death's door and then rescued, is that of Mr. J. Henderson Wilkinson, a prominent attorney of this city. In conversation with me he said: "Ten years ago I was SQized with an attack of Bright'e disease. I was then at work in the Treasury here. I know it was Bright's disease for several reasons. In early life I studied medicine some little time. I knew from my symptoms what my trouble was, but I was also in the hands of my physicians. How badly I became, you can understand when I say that my hands became bloated and actually cracked open. My limbs and body would alternately swell and collapse, could only creep across the floor. Finally my physician said to me: 'Youare at death's door with Bright's disease. Yon may live a few weeks, but there is absolutely no hope of your recovery. Although I was so very sick my friends did not desert me. Nnmbers of them called to express their sympathy. Col. Daniel A. Grosvenor, Judge Tarbel, Rev. Dr. Rankin, Col. Robert M. Douglas—more than a hundred prominent men—extended to me their sympathy. None supposed for a moment I could ever recover. Upon the advice of the Rev. Dr. RankiD, now President of the Howard University, I began the use of a preparation of which I had but little knowledge. I began to improve at once. I continued its nse, nothing else, and I state to ^ou to-day that I owe my life solely to garner's Safe Cure, which rescued me from the grave after the doctors had abandoned all hope. I am certain that if men and women generally fully realized the wonderful power of thip great discovery, and used it faithfully, thero would bo less sickness, fewer deaths, longer life and more happiness thnn at present."
I was greatly impressod with Mr. Wilkinson's earnestness of manner. Certain it is, that his statement is true, and that he is to-day in perfect health.
Senator Blackburn not only knows what wearing strains of political life are, but also of the power which the great discovery above mentioned has shown both in Washington and throughout the land. Indeed, be is a living examplo of its efficiency.
I saw Senator W. C. Squire, Mr. H. C. Clnrk of the First Auditor's Office, Captain J. G. Ball, and many others, apd their statements amply confirmed all I had previously learned.
Mr. AbraLam I. Hahn, well known in newspaper nnd army circles, said: "Personally, I have used Warner's Safe Cure, and consider it the best medicine in the world for the diseases it is rocommended to oure.
A

man, 11 graduate of a medical college, said: "I have frequently heard Mrs. Hahn mention Warner's Safe Curo, and its highly beneficial effect."
Wherever I went I found the testimony the 6ame. It was generally admitted that the strains of public life in Washington were wearing and shortening to tho life, but it was universally conceded that for overcomiug these tendencies, for strengthening the vitality, toning the health and prolonging the life nothing had ever been known equal to tho great remedy I have above described.
There is more Catarrh in this section of the country than rill other diseases put together, and until the last few years was supposed to bo incurable. For a great many years doctors pronounced it a local disease, and prescribed local remedies, and by constantly failing to cure with local treatment, pronounced incurable. Science has proven catarrh to be a constitutional disease, and therefore requires a constitutional treatment. Hall's Catarrh Cnre, manufactured by F. J. Cheney & Co., is the only constitutional curo on the market. It is taken internnlly in doses from 10 drops to a teaspoonful. It acts directly on the blood and mucous surfaces of the system. They offer one hundred dollar for any case it fails to cure. Send for circulars and testimonials. Address.
