ONE YEAR'S WORK,
An lmmmensa Audience Listens to the Keports ou the Condition of Oar Y. M. U. A.—A Grand Work Beiag Done.
Judgiug by the size of tho audience at the Y. M. C. A. auditorium last evening the Crawfordsvillo public takes as keen an interest in that institution as it did at first when everything was new. Over seven hundred people were in attendance. With tho exception of the prayer and address of Rev. O. P. Fuson, who was called to Rockvilie by the illjjces of his brother, the programme was carried ont as printed in THE
JOUHNAI
Saturday. The report of tho President, O. M. Gregg, was read by Secretary Mc'Cav. It was the fourth anniversary report for tho year ending April 1,1892.
Tho Association, Mr. Gregg said, is not so much a means of enre for tho ills of young manhood as it is a means Of preventing those ills. Tho physical do partment makes a good showing. The average attendance at gymnasium classes has been 13, a total of 2,135. Besides this 2,404 visits have been made to the gymnasium for exercise outside ot class work. Dr. Cowan has examined 35 members and in most oases special lines of exercise have been prescribed for tl-'-T.. Thirty-seven lockers are rente.', .rad (i,G05 baths have been taken, an average of 21 a day.
In the intellectual and social depart uient no evening educational classes have been organized as there has been demand for them. This speaks well tor the educational facilities ot our city. Tho number of magazines and papers on file is 47, 35 being secular and 12 religious. The library consists of 348 volumes and 35 volumes of magazines await binding. During the year 11,067 visits to the reading room have been mado. It is now open to all, whether members of the association or not. The lecture course did not prove a financial success, there being a deficit of S05.10. If better support is not given this feature it will be reduced in size aud price or abandoned altogether. Five receptions were given during tho year.
Ot religious services of all kinds there have been 4S8 and while there have been no direct conversions, ten associate members have become active by joining one of the churches, largely through the influence of the Y. M. C. A. The total number of visits to the building for all purposes has been 35,300, a daily average of 112. The membership one year ago was 225-and was then on the decrease. The lowest point was reached in October when there were but 193 members. From that time, however, there has been a steady growth and now the membership is 25G and still growing. The largest number ever en. rolled at one time was in January, 1890, 384.
Free writing material is furnished and financial and other aid has been extended in a number of cases. Arrangements have been made whereby members of the Association will hereafter conduct Sunday services either at, the jail or at, the poor farm. Papers will be taken regularly to these places. Forty-two members are working on committees.
Treasurer Horace F. King made his report as follows:

Mr. Xing then made some apt re marks about the necessity of better financial support and paid a deserved tribute to Win. H. Durham, who since ho furnished the lnnd and monev for the M. C. A. three years ago has not received a single payment of interest yet never has a'word to say except to inquire what is being accomplished for the young men.
Rev. R. S. Inglis answered the question'"Why do Wo Need Y. M. C. A." in few forcible remarks, and Iiov. G. W. Switzer gave a short history of the riso nnd growth of tho association. Dr. Cunningham's subject was Tho "Incep tion and Growth of the local Branch,' on which ho was well prepared as he was one of the 'organizers. Before resuming his seat, however, ho took occasion to say a few words about the non-enfor.ement of laws in this community o' which see more in another column.

The Otirsed Hicks.
The Rev. Mr. Uioks told ns that it would be "prudent to anticipate cold, bleak weather up to about the 10th," which is to-day, and the following is what we may count on this ooming week acoording to the same excellent authority:
A center ot "Vulcanian" storms falls on the 11th the fall moon and the equinox ot Mars fall on the 11th the equinox of Meroury is on the 15th. All these facts blended with natural tendency to regular terrestrial disturbances due to ^vernal equinoctial, call for a period of violent disturbances from the 10th to 14th. The indioations call for an unusual [oonfliot between heat and oold, with marked tendency to oyclonic storms on the southern side of storm areas, with sleet and snow probable to the north. Hail, with lightning and thunder, will be marked features of these disturbances in many localities. Oool to cold weather generally will bo the natural order behind the storms of this period.

There is more Catarrh in this section of the country than all other diseases put together, and until the last few years was supposed to be incurable. For a great many years doctors pronounced it a local disease, and prescribed local remedies, and by constantly failing to cure with local treatment, pronounced incurable. Science has proven catarrh to be a constitutional disease, and therefore requires a constitutional treatment. Hall's Catarrh Cure, manufactured by F. J. Cheney & Co., is the only constitutional cure on the market. It is taken internally in doses from 10 drops to a teaspoonful. It acts directly on the blood and mucous surfaces of the system. They offer one hundred dollar for any case it fails to cure. Send for circulars and testimonies. Address.
