Iii a Critical Ooneition,

Bert Bible, the little son of Ale\ Bible, who was horribly injured at Wuynetown yesterday by having his log caught in tho spokes of a moving wagon, is in a critical condition with the chances "decidedly against hiB recovery.

W. D. Jones Has Another Hotel. \V. 1). Jones, of the Bobbins House, hasjeased tho Eaglo Lake Hotel, at Spring Fountain, near Warsaw.. This is a summer resort of considerable note with racing, boating, bathing and nil the attractions that such places usually afford. Mr. .Jones and his family will stay there, while Am Junes will look after the Bobbins Hotel.

Eud of the Fayerweather Will Contest. As stated in Tim .TOUUNAI. yesterday the Fayerweather will case is at an end and "Wabash gets an even 8100,000. The other colleges benefited have their bequests raised correspondingly but if there is any money left after the amounts are paid in their entirety, it will be divided into ten eijtial parts, and tho fol lowing will eacti get one part: Columbia, Yale, Harvard, Princeton and the Presbyterian Hospital: the remaining five parts going to tho Woman's Hospital. The executors think that there will bo considerable sum to divide among these institmions under this clause of th» will.

He's Our Joe.

Joe Adams wears a red necktie and :B in tough luck. He has been peddling charts about town for .several days and when told by the authorities to get out a license, he gave a superior emilo and waving his lily hand he calmly said, "go up, bald heads, go up." That was unwarranted rudeness on the part of Joseph, and he was arrested this morning in the name of the law, which is no respecter of persons or Terro Haute book agents. Joe has employed a lawyer and says ho will fight to tho "bitter end." Ho also says tho Torre Hauto company which employs him will hold the sponge. It may have to hold the sack.

The Result of a Snake Bite. This morning Dr. Henry Long, of Indianapolis, Dr. W. F. Curryer, of Thorntown, and Dr. J. T. Marsh, of Browns burg, all of the Eclectic College of Physicians, arrived in the city to amputate tho leg of Arthur Centennial Tilney, the son of Dr. DeCaux Tilney. The oporn tion was eminently successful and the leg was amputated between tho thigh and tho knee, and the dissection of tho member afterwards showed that the bones were all rotten. Tho lad was bitten by a snake some timoago while running in the crook bottoms. Tho strange part of the case ic that the snake bite was on the foot of the other leg instead oT the one which shriveled and decayed.

Tne Bedford Boys.

The Mayor and tho city council of Bedford were in Crawfordsvillo to-day. Capt. Wm. Day is Mayor and M. N. Messick, J. AV. Gibson, D. Eldbridge, C. F. Dilley and J. M. Caress are councilinen. They have been oil' for several days on a junketing trip and .arrived hero last evening from Frankfort. It seems that Bedford town is going to put in a water plant and so sent the council out into the cold, cruel world to get pointers. Tho fire department made an exhibition run for them this morning to tho school house and Mayor Carr and others showec them the town. The visitors were completely carried away with the water works system, if not with its control, and stated that they received more suggesti ns here than anywhere else. The gentlemen returned to Bedford this afternoon.

His Glaiin to Greatness.

Representative Ader, of Putnam coun tv, is in the city to-day with all his superfluous beef. Ader wants to be Joint Representative of Montgomery and Putnam. He might-do well in Pi nam but he won't go down here. His one claim to greatness lies in the fnet that ho oneo refused to shake hands with General Grant. It seems that ho was an ill-mannered cub nnd was attending school at General Grant's old homo in Galena, 1 11., at the time of Genoral Grant's visit. The school was lined up in honor of the General and ho in his good-natured way marched down the line shaking hands with tho children. When ho came to Ader tho traitorous little smart-alox refused to shake hands much to Grant's amusement. On this fact Ader is supposed to base his claims to tho vote of Montgomery county.

Tho Missouri Supreme Court Sets Aside Its Original Judgment in the Doherty and Robb Cases,

Another grand double somersault of huge porportions has beon made in the Doherty vs. Robb and Street case has been made, and tho supreme court has sot its former judgment in favor ot Robb and Street aside and reinstated tho causo in its original place where it was taken by Streot and Robb on appeal. This move causes some considerable surprise here. It was known that Hurley A: Clodfelter had filed allidavits charging that the Dohertv's had confessed judgment in order to commit fraud on them, but it waB not yet time for the case to bo heard by tho court, as all the papers were not yet in. It is thought by some that after A. F. Ramsey had gotten tho judgment for S10,500 against Street it was deemed advisable by the Street-Bobb-Doherty faction which was formed after tho Street-Robb vs. Doherty war, to withdraw the acknowledgement error of judgment and put the case back in the supreme court. At any rato the case issumes new complications every day and likewise becomes more ridiculous and comic. To an outsider it is amusing, but is probably of some considerable interest to those connected with it.

A PARTIAL SHUT 1J0WN

At the Spoke Factory—fifty Men Temporarily Out of Work. Oil Monday all tho men employed 011 tho lathes at the spoke factory of the American Wheel Company were notifif that their services would not be need, until further orders, and 011 Monday evening a part of the sawyers were given similar notice. Tho superintendent had no explanation to niako further than

he was carrying out instructions from headquarters, there being a surplus of spokes now on the market. Tho saw mill ia still running, however, giving work to twenty uien. The number temporarily out of employment is about fifty, but it is not eipected that, the shut down will continue long.

More Money i'or Our Post Office. For some time Postmaster Bonnell has had an application in at Washington for an extra allowance to be paid for mail distributor in tho postollice. In view of the lurge amount of postal business done here the development has acted favorably upon the application and allowed the sum of 8300 a year. Frank Scott will draw the new salary in addition to the amount he gets as substitute for the carriers wlten thev are on a lay off.
