TCF.SDAY, MARCH 22, 1892.

The Glse Club.

The Wabash College Glee Club has made arrangements to give a concert at the Y. M. C. A. auditorium on Thursday, April 21.

Don't Want to Run.

.Tiimes r. Walter, the Democratic councilman from the Second Ward is not a candidate for re-election. He states that ho will not take the race unless it is forced upon him. The duties interfere with his business and he thinks there is more excitement than profit in the job anyhow.

Council Meeting Postponed, Giving to counter attractions tlie council meeting which was booked for last evening was postponed, there being no quorum present. The Commissioners made their report as to the assessment for the opening of Plum street through Elstou's grove, however, and it is altogether likely that the report will be referred back by the Council for revision, it being unsatisfactory ns it stands.

A Surprise Weddinsr.

This morning at 8 o'clock John Ryan, of Pine Bluff, Ark., and Mrs. Minnie Sidener were quietly married by Rev. G. W. Switzer at the home of the bride on west Main street. They left this morning for their home in Arkansas viu. St. Louis. The congratulations of a largo circle of friends follow the happy couple to their home. The marriage is the result of an old love match of many years ago and has romantic side. Mr. iiyan is a prominent real estate dealer in Arkansas and has won for a bride a lady of many excellent qualities who has endeared herself to hosts of people by her sweet and amiable disposition.

A Oard.

The following card from Rev. W. J. Vigus, Dist. Supt. of the American Bible Society to D. Harter of. this city, explains itself:

Wabash, Ind., March 18, '92—Dear Brothek—I want to gladden your heart, as it gladdened mine, to acknowledge tlie receipt of a draft for 31,000 for the A. I!. S. from the widow of the late Dr. Geo. Manners, of New Uiehmotid. Very truly, etc.

W. .1. Vigi'x, Dist- Supt.

Noble example by a good christian TOinan and worthy to be imitated by all who have it in thoir power to do so, but lot mo say in connection with this subject that if there be any who do not feel able to make these largo bequests, but who would like to have their names enrolled on the litt of life members. 680 paid at any one time will entitle the donor to a life certificate, on which he can draw annually one dollar's worth of any of the publications of the B. S. and if taken in neatly bound testaments the -31 would buy enough to gladden the hearts of 20 children, or adults of such as have never been the possessors of any part nf the eacrcd .scriptures. The A

B. K. is not denominational organiza tion and therefore appeals to all the churches of this county through thoir pastors to take at least one annual 'collection for the A. U. S. and for every SI forwarded to the parent society through this auxiliary we are entitled to SI noitli of books, thereby enabling us to keep our repository replenished with good stock from which to select books at any time. Mr. D. F. McCluro, the treasurer, will receipt for any money paid 111 on collections or donations and hoc that it is promptly forwarded to the parent society. Respectfully, 1). Hakteh, Pres. M. C. B.

GEORGE BALDWIN'S NERVE,

I he Captures the Heart of His Uuula j. "LuokyV Only Danglitor. The following associated press dispatch from SanFrancisco will be read with peculiar interest in Crawfordsvillo: "The announcement was made to-day I that Anita Baldwin, the only daughter of "Lucky" Baldwin, the well known

California millionaire, had eloped with her cousin, George Baldwin. The latter came hero tivo years ago from Crawfordsville. Ind., and since then has been employed at the Baldwin hotel, lie is but twenty-live years of age, 1 while the young woman is but eighteen.

It trauspires they wore secretly married Jan. 5, and that having fnile.l tubsequently to obtain the millionaire's consent to a proposod prospective union, they took advantage of his absence, he being now at his Santa Anita ranch in the southern part of the State. It is stated that the millionaire had serionsly opposed the match and had taken measuree t,o keep the young people apart. The news of her marriage and elopement has been conveyed to Baldwin at his ranch.

As Miss Baldwin is a minor the young couple could not obtain a license to marry. Baldwin obtained a tug and they were married out at soa by a minister. The secret was well kept and was only divulged when the husband and wife became tired of living npnrt. Even after the secret marriage Anita frequently asked her her father's consent to marry her cousin but the old gentleman was obdurate. He had frequently stated his intention of making Anita his heir if she obeyed his wishes, and it is said he promised to to give her the famous Santa Anita farm and $10,000,000.

During the trouble which arose during the courtship, "Lucky" Baldwin threatened to disinherit his daughter if she married young Baldwin. "I'll give her nothing for her support, and in my will will provide her with a home not to cost over 815,000," was the manner in which he stated his intentions.''

George Baldwin is well known hero. He is a son of Jack Baldwin, who lives west of the city in the W7esley neighborhood. George, while here, was a quiet sober fellow with an eye to business. WThen Supt. Znck taught school at Wesley, George was one of his pupils and was a quiet lad, who needed, however, th» ocoasional assistance of a gad to produce the best results of study,..,

THE CORN EAST.

The Seiota Tribe of Eed Men Celebrate Their Second Anniversary. The second unlivery of the Sciota Tribe of the Improved Order of Red Men was celebrated last night by one of the largest banqueti and hops which have been given in Crawfordsville for many moons. The banquet occurred in the P. O. S. of A. armory and the five tables stretched the entire length of the room were loaded down not only with the choicest of viands but with cut flowers and potted plants, giving the board a most inviting appearance. The guests to the number of 278 marched in to the exhilarating music of the orchestra and after Rev. R. S. Inglis had invoked the divine blessing the noble red men and the squaws began to do justice to the magnificent spread before them. The menu of the banquet was a most aborate ono and all the delicacies _f and out of the season which could be obtained for wampum, were served. For two hours the guests tarried at the tables and after the disposition of the viands Rev. S. W. Brown made the loading talk in lieu of Judge Suit, of

Frankfort, who was billed but who failed to appear. The toasts of the evening were all responded to nobly. Capt. Munhall responded to "The Order," and Ira McConnell to "The Ladie»" and both gentleman did themselves exceedingly proud.

After the banquet the floor was cleared and until about 1:30 o'clock this morning the tribe and its guests tripped the light fantastic to the excellent music which was furnished by the orchestra. The affair was a most enjoyable ono in every particular, and was one of the events of this season besides being the largest attended.

Ho wits tho author of the building act and in 1884 to May, 1880, thero was more than nine thousand buildings erected under his department. Mr. Tinsloy has boon a writor on building and architecture for many years, was the chairman of the first State Association of Missouri Architects, and is the inventor of the parabolic curve system of straightening crooked or loaning brick buildings, of which he has ao complishod some really remarkablo feats He designed and built the sterilized air operating room, for surgical operations, which is attached to Dr. Halley'« pri vatc hospital in Kanaas City, and which

The Schools of New Market. The agitation of the question of incorporating New Market has raised the point whether or not such action would in uny way affect the town in its relation to its schools. H. D. Servies therefore wrote D. W. Hartman, trustee of Union township, and received the following reply:

Crawfordsville, Ind., March 19, 1892.—Mr. H. D. Servies—Dear Sir— The corporation ot New Market being a civil and not a school corporation it will in no way affect your schools. The term in your town will be same* length as any other school in Union township.

There is more Catarrh in this section of the country than all other diseases put together, and until the last few years was suppored to be incurable. For a great many years doctors pronounced it a local disease, and prescribed local remedies, and by constantly falling to cure with local treatment, pronounced incurable. Science has proven catarrh to be constitutional disease, and therefore requires a constitutional treatment. Hall's Catarrh Cure, manufactured by F. J. Cheney & Co., is the only constitutional cure on the market. It is token internally in doseB from 10 drops to a teaspoonful. It acts directly on the blood and mncous surfaces of the system.
