A FEARFULJ5L0W.

Liuk Xoentj Is Badly Knocked Out In the Jfriza fight At the Fair Grounds Last Night.

The Colorec" Athletic Club is tho name of a new sporting fraternity whish has just loen organized in tho city under tho management of Mr. Archie Young, liberal patron of the turf well known ill all circles pertaining to matters of port. Tho club's initial entertainment was prize tight which occurred last ght about nine o'clock near the rolucing station (it the fair grounds. A uitable purse had been made up and the matter was well advertised in tho porting circles of the city during the day. The contest was between Elvy

Derickson. step son of Deacon Bud •ericKson, and Lincoln Keene. the cherished offspring of Hon, Upton Keene, of precious memory. The two contestants are well developed middle weights and had been in training for some time. At he hour apjxuutod for the fight about forty sports, black and white, assembled on the ground. The second of Dorickson was Archie Young while Line Haran performed the same kindly oflice for Keene. John Barnes was referee and performed his duty in an impartial manner. When time was called both men, with three ounce gloves on their brawny lists, toed the mark and shook

hands. Hound first: Keene began operations by giving Derickson several smart blows on the forehead which rendered him exceedingly groggy. Derickson failed to get back and when time was called was in bad condition. Things were looking bright for Keene and bets against him found no takers.

Second rounnd: Keene again nad the advantage striking Dickerson in the rib and getting his wind. Dickerson's blows fell short, and Keene escaped unscraehed.

Hound third: Dickerson came up fresher and Keene too confident. Keene again struck Dickerson twice in the forehead but in attempting to repeat failed. Dickerson rallied and gave a swinging right hand blow of terrible force which landed on Keene's neck just under the ear. Keene fell like a butch ered ox and the seconds rushed in itnd picked him up. He was unconscious and lay on tho ground as limber as a wet dish rag. The referee declared the fight in favor of Dickerson and all begun to work on the unconscious victim: lie was 'worked with 'JO minutes before he was able to stand on his feet and presented bad appearance generally. The police were not aware of the contest and hence did not interfere. Immediately on the conclusion of tho fight it adjourned and all parti&s scattered, enough remaining, however, to assist Keene to a place of refuge. This ended the first entertainment of the Colored

Athletic Club.

One eyed ,Toe Devaney still languishes in the merry-go-round at the jail for the alleged robbing of Mrs. Bell Delashmit and s'ill continues to sigh amorously and indite burning epistles to the object of his afTcction. His attorney called on Jlrs. Delashmit the other day and read one to the cruel creature in whi"h Joe stated that even in the old clammy prison cell ho still loved her with all the fervid passion of his great doul and that in his imagination he could still see her wearing that same blue dress she wore when first her fairyform flitted before his dazzled vision. Much more after the same tenor was rendered but. to everything Mrs. Do lashmit cried, "It ain't so! It ain't so!" and finally the lawyer withdrew cogitating on the fact that the course of true love never did run smooth.

agree upon the number of electric volts which are necessary to cause a cessation of life in tho human body: some claim that an excessive shock is more likely to cause incineration rather tlnn instant»reous death, but if they would turn their attention to prolonging- and increasing the pleasures of life, the public would hail the result with inoro satisfaction. For instance, the electricity generated iu a wave of laughter is after all the moat pleasanf shock, and to see a large assemblage moved by a current of uncontrollable mirth while witnesBing the play of "She Couldn't Marry Three," places beyond dispute the fact that largo volts of laughter are better than volts of electricity any day,

The Doherty's Answer tho Complaint of Hurley & Olodfeltor in Hot Terms, anil Score the Nobles.

The Dohorlys have filed their answer to tho complaint of llurlov AClodfelter, who demand S'21,-00 damages and it makes tolerably fair reading. Tho answer states that before the legal firm began work that a contract was made by M. E. Clodfelter in which he agreed to pronecute both the Street and Robb cases and put them through the Supreme court as well, for the sum of S'2.0l)(). After this had been agreed to he insisted that the Missouri firm of

Mclteynolds .V llaliburton be emploved to assist. They were employed and the Dohertvs have already paid them 5800 still owing §400. After the cases were won or rather whilo they were still in progress, Clodfelter demanded one-fifth of tho disputed lead land, slating that he had power and the papers and would go over to the other side unless it was given. After both cases were decided he went to Cincinnati and demanded of Sarah O Doherty, an aged lady of 72 years, a deed to one fifth of the land, stating that unlets it was given he would ruin her sons, Marsh and Mat and give the whole snap away to the enemy. This Mrs. Doherty, though protesting strongly, finally did upon the advice of her then favorite granddaughter, Mrs. Fioienee Noble. A conspiracy between C'lor.felter and the Nobles is not alleged but it is very strongly insinuated and the acquaintances of the Nobles may be interested in knowing that the complaint declares that they owe all they havo to the munificence of Mrs. Doherty.

Mrs. Doherty, so the instrument says, set them up to all their furniture and in other ways aided them, as Tom was without means and being in a medical =chool as a student required assistance. It is further averred that all the expenses of the lawyers were paid by tin Dohertys as they were incurred, and that they stand in no wise beholden ti the legal firm.

Return of Salvini

Tho return of young Alexander Salvini to this city, after his engagement here last Octobor, shows that the handsome actor is at least impressed with the intelligence and appreciation of a Crawfordsville audience. Manager Townslev desirves credit for securing return date, which he succeeded in doing only by special arrangement. Mr Salvini created a most favorable iin liression as the Spanish 1'oysterer, Don Caesar, but this time will play his greatest character, that of the reckless Gascon adventurer, J'Artaynoa. which Dumas immortalized in his wonderful imagery, The Three Guardsmen. This play is one cf tho best of the romantic creations, and gives Salvini every opportunity to display hiH talents am genius as an artist who shines by no reflected light. Here youth-warm prssionate youth stands with him bringing forth true ideal of romance, The play will be given with newsce.r.ery and costumes and every accessory that characterizes a finished production, the second act Salvini fights a tUiel with

Richelius' guards on the stage, givin true and startling illustration of an affair (InJtonorc of the old East.

Tn Hic Kililor. Sin—As my name md face have appeared ill your paper I md the public prints lately, and as lany «f my professional brethren are wondering at it. I feel it only just that I should mako an explanation. The statement published ov. rmy name was made I ten years ago, after long and mature inestigation. anil 1 have never changed :ny mind as to the facts then stated. At hat time I said, as a physician, that I I believed Warner's Safe Cure was the best of kiM»n preparations for the troubles it w:is ad ncated to cure, and I HIV still. I. know it is considered the proper thing for the medical profession to decry proprietary and. other advertised articles but wliv should they do

As the late Dr. J. (1. Holland, writing over his own name in Scribner' Monthly, said:

It is a fact that many of the best proprietary medicines of the day are more successful than many physicians, and most of them were first discovered or used in actual medical practice when, however, any person knowing their virtue and foreseeing their popularity secures and advises them, in the opinion of the bigoted all virtue went out of them.''.

Dr. Holland was an educated physician, an unprejudiced observer, and lie ••'lHike from a broad and unusual ex •rience. Proprietary medicines should iot be decried. Tile evidences of their .-aluo.'r.re overwhelming. I have seen patients recover from gravel, inllama tion of the bladder ami Bright's disease er using Warner's Safe Cure, oven when all other treatments had failed.

I mako this frank and outspoken statement in Uio interest of humanity iiid because I know it to be true. I rust for the same reason you will give to the public.
