ariety tlie Spice of Life,

There is nothing benefits mankind so much as a change, even if its only a change of linen. But what we moan to couvey is that too much of any one thing becomes monotonous. Tho clerk, tied for hours-to his desk, seeks relaxation on his living wheel: the policeman, on his feet for hours, finds relaxation in an easy chair by his, or, any other friend's fireside a man badgered by a shrew of a wife seeks relaxation by lilting a can over his head, and as the beer disappears, he gazes with consola tion at his reflected countenance at the growler. F.ven at the theatre how many plays are monotonous when all on the one theme how a bit of sentiment is relieved by a hearty laugh, a merry dance or a comic song. And if "variety is the spice of life" it reaches perfection in the great comedy, "She Couldn't Marry

MR. SPURGEON'S DEATH!

UN-

TIMELY.

Be Alive and Well To-day Had He Followed His Own Wishes.

The sad death of Rev. Charles H. Spurgeon is rendered still sadder by the belief that his life might have been saved and his great work prolonged. The daily papers contain a cablegram from London which states that before his death the suffering divine hud pleaded with his physicians to depart from the narrow lines of practice and

auminister a modern discovery by which he had formerly boen cured. The cablegram is as follows:

COULD SrrilGEOK HAVE I1EEX SAVEI? LONDON, Feb. 12.—Considerable excitement has been occasioned by the report that Rev. Charles II. Spurgeon before his death pleaded with his physicians to administer Warner's Safe Cure, which he had previously used with great benefit. The doctors refused and threatened to abandon the case. Friends of the family aro said to be very indignant.

Here was a grand life, whose words have been read and whose intluenco has been felt by millions and yet permitt to go to the Great Hereafter when his teacWngs might have been prolonged his life might have been saved.

It is rofroshing to think that there aro other noble preachers, both abroad and in America, who are alive to-day but who might have been in their graves had it not been for the wonderful remedy which Mr. Spurgeon longed to take and which they did take and wero saved.

The Rev. Francis McCammon of the Mansa, Bainbridge, like the Rev. Mr. Spurgeon, was brought to the gates of death. Ho said: "I had been thinking for some time of using Warner's Safe Cure, but iny medical man dissuaded mo from so doing. However, I gradually got worse, and, being at last told by him that I could not recover, I resolved to try this great remedy. am happy to say thai the result of tho use of three bottles is most remarkable, indeed incredible, and I realize that I shall be able to enjoy life for years to conio."

The Rev. George Watorman, Berwyn Lodge, Broadstone, Wimborne, England, said: "I owe my present health, even my life, under God, to the use of Warner Safe Cure. Dur ng nearly two years I had been under the treatment of one of our most celebrated London physicians, but at last he gave mo to nnderstand that he could do nothing more for me. At that time Providence directed me to try Warner's Safe Cure, the use of which continued until am rejoiced to say am entirely cured. I have recommended this great remedy ever since my recovery, anc in no single case has it failed to effect a complete cure."

Tho Rev. Edward Wilson, J). 1)., Bishop of Ottawa, Canada, says: "I have found Warner's SafoCuro the most valuable and efficacious remedy I have ever tried. Jndeed, one cannot well express tho experimental sense of its

beneficial action. It is liko a charm, soothing, relieving, and building up so quickly. I find that renowal after an interval ot cessation is very advantageous and do so whenever I think it needed."

The sad hearts who mourn to-day tho untimely death of Mr. Spurgeon may cherish his teachings, but cannot recall his life. He has gone, and his death is both a lesson and a warning. Had he followed his own judgment in his physical life as ho did his conscience in his spiritual affairs, ho would probably be alive to-day to bless the world with his teachings and inspire by his presence! May this not be a lesson to you? May you not also require shelter from the groat bodily dangers which surround you? Can you afford to neglect the warning?

Love OomeS Like a Summer Dream. Now, there isn't, perhaps, on» man in fifty who, after viewing tho mighty hulk of Mr. Andy Freeman, the well known hotel runner, would suppose that \ndy would fall a victim to tho naked little god with tho bow and arrow. Andy, by reason of his manly beauty, md his rare attributes of head and heart, lias always been considered a great catch. But most nobly did he withstand tho blandishments of overy ifkv damsel who made soft eyes at him until tho arrival of Miss Houser, from tanville, Ills. AJ1 others sighed in vain around the bower of Andy, the brunette. Many wero tho boxes of liuyler's candy ho receivod, many the bouquets, mnuy the passion breathing billet doux—but all in vain until Miss

Houser wafted in on a perfumed, yes, a strongly perfumed zephyr from the Sucker state. As a matter of absolute fact it is declared that-Andy fell in love at the moment this fair charmer appeared, against the background of purple clouds, walking the Big Four trossle, and clapping his jeweled hand against his bosom he exclaimed: "Dciul Shepherd, now I feel thy snvr of might.

W hiM'vei- luvul thtit loved not ul Brst si^rliL Unfortunately, the course of true love never did run smooth and even the noble, brainy Andy was madb to suffer the awful pangs of unrequited love To be candid, Miss Houser preferred blondes. She took apartniouts in the luxurious Hat occupied by Mies Sue Iloitsley and here almost every night Andy ap.peared with his light guitar and sang those plaintive ditties ho learned while attending Heidelburg University, Germany. Sunday night, however, he adopted different tactics and smashed out all tho window lights. The noise thus made disturbed the sweet dreams of Miss Hously and she sworo out warrant to-day charging Andy \vith disturbing the peace.
