l)i:Moi']tATK' papers talk continually that the farmer is compelled to soli liii produce in competition tvith all tin world in foreign markets and should lie nlloweij the privilege of buying at cheaply as possible, yet these eaiiu papers howl if a street hawker enters town and sells in competition with home merchants. The local buyer has. by this theory, the same right to bin where and ot whom he can buy cheap »st: yet yon would set up the clain that the peddler has the same right U. •.'11 011 our streets ^without paying a tariff—that is, a license—-in competition •vith our merchants ,,wlio help to

l'mtSi'KKiTV to [he farmer means milar conditions to all who labor but prosperity must 13i-st come from the farm, and through the farm to the factory. The farm stands at the threshold of production, and if tho fanners' labor go unrewarded success cannot come to those who base their hopes upon what lie produces. The vast interest represented in manufacturing, transportation, mining, and the minor industries mui-t look to agriculture as a basis for all calculations of the future. It then follows that the home market is the rrirket. worth considering: and the political party which aims to impair its consuming power should be denounced as ommon enemy, publicly arrayed against irosperily. All perishable products must find a market near home to be valuable, It is far easier to bring the factory wiih its employes to the yiciuty of the farm than it, is to transport lie perishable product to tho greal "litres of trade. The increase of farm iropertv within a radius of ten or twenmiles or a large factory can be used 0 demonstrate the truth.
