LOVELY LADIES.TALK.
THE scccEssrci. MEETJM SOItOSIS SOCIETY.
An intensely interesting meeting of the Sorosis Society was held on Monitor. when the preparation of women for wifehood and motherhood was fully discussed. -Mrs. Ada M. Brown, who presided, among other things said: "Woman's function in the world is determined by nature- she is made to lie the mother of the race. Physiologically we must take into consideration that she may become a wife and mother, though practically we ignore it It is a mistake then to train girls precisely like boys. No true womanly woman wisht to be a man, she is quite satis lied to be a good specimen of her own sex."
Mrs. Dounc spoke strongly and lamented the false modesty which forbade mothers facing squarely the true and of their daughters. She advocated the special teaching of girls in public schools on matters of hygiene and physiology as they are taught in the colleges. "Life demands much more of our girls than it does of our boys," she said, "aud we should recognize it. The schools educate our girliVuut ignore the fact that the bappi ness or misery of the coming generations lies in the hands of girls who, with all their learning, are ignorant of the vital principles which underlie the glory of wifehood and womanhood.' in how many hundreds of cases has disease, "like a worm in the bud," fed upon the damask cheek of some lovely woman who might have been well, who might have been happy had she only known the real cause and the simple and certain means of relief.
In this connection the valuable wordB of Mrs. Kendall camo with marvelous force. She said: "A few days ago 1 received a call from a charming lady, who stated that she was suffering, aud wished to know if 1 could in any way aid hc-r. There is no doubt that thousands of women are suffering to-day from similar troubles who do not realize the danger nor recognize their cause 60 nearly as thip lady did. She felt peevish, restless, blue. She had headache, backache, cold feet iind sinking sensations. Iler com plexion was sallow her appetite fickle.
I knew the cause and I am happy to state that I was able to afford relief. I feel it my privilege to-day lo state that I believe there is a means whereby women who are suffering can obtain complete relief, and those who a health be continued in its enjoyment. A few years ago, a prominent and wealthy gentleman residing in Rochester, N. V., was given up to die. By means of a simple and purely vegetable remedy he was restored to perfect health. So efficient did this remedy prove in the case of many well known men, that it began also to bo used by ladies, and today thousands of women in all parts of the land owe their restored health and continued happiness to the wonderful power of Warner's Safe Cure. This great medicine has been a godsend to hundreds of ladies whom I know, and I rejoice to think how much it has accomplished in restoring happiness and litting women for the true enjoyment of life. "The performance of the natural functions or womanhood and motherhood is not a disease, nor should it be so treated. If, however, the blood be impure, it is certain to produce poisonous effects in the parts with which it comes in contact, and thus causes in (laminations and the innumerable ills which make the physical life of woman so hard to endure. I am aware a preju dice exists against proprietary medicines and that such prejudice is too often well founded, but wo should discriminate not condemn all became some are inefficient. The merits of Warner's Safe
Cure have been proved beyond a doubt, because they deal directly with the causes of all female troubles. "The able and brilliant ladies who comprise the SorosiB Society are doing a grand work in agitating this import ant subject. The future strength and happiness of the raco depends upon the condition of the women. If they are healthy, bright and vigorous, America will advance more than it has in the past. If, on the other hand, the wives and mothers or the land are weak, mor bid and sickly, little can be hoped for either the future prominence or power of this nation. If ladies will realize this and act accordingly the effect will be felt through future generations."

Mr. Evans the Winner.
The annual oratorical contest of the students of Wabash College occurred at the chapel last evening and was the poorest excuse for a contest that Iris been givon for years. The productions of the contestants had all been graded previously on thought by a committee consisting of Dr. Cunningham, Prof. Kingsley, and Dr. Taylor. The judges on delivery were H. F. King, Prof. Osborn, and Judge Snvder- and tliev listened to the following programme:
Edgar Evans—Savonarola. Byron Prank—Religion and Morality in the Public Schools.
A. T. Martin—Tho Jew. •£.•''/ F. T. Steel Mission of the Reformation.
Edwin McNutt—William the Silent. G. G. Taylor—The Follies of Sin. Upon the conclusion of the contest the average was struck between the two sets of grades and it was ascertained that the first place was awarded to Edgar Evans, of Indianapolis second to A. T. Martin, of La Gro third to F. T. Steele, of Homer, 111., and fourth to Ed McNutt. Mr. Evans will accordingly represent the college at the State contest in Indianapolis and the Messrs. Martin, Steele and McNutt_will go as delegates. The audience would have awarded the first place to Steele, as his delivery was by far the best but
composition cut him down in tho bloom of his youth and beauty: .Mr. Evans, the winner, has a poor delivery but a good oration. It is to be hoped that a competent trainer will give him a few "pointers" before the contest. A great many would have given Prunk the fourth place. All in all tho contest was poor. The general delivery was bad and much of tho composition was decomposition. The men who have heretofore led tho class in writing and speaking, as Thomson, Gary aud Abbott took no part, and this may to some extent account for the poor exhibition of last evening. We again reiterate the statement that foot ball has superceded oratory in Indiana. Tho lack of interest is not only shown at Wabash but at the other colleges of the State as well.
At Music Hall To-Night.
Faurot's was well filled last night at the first presentation of the French Folly Co. The men were of all ages but the youthful and the bald-headed contingents seemed to predominate. The company gives a good show, and not one was there that evening but what was satisfied. The piece was opened by a burlesque entitled, "Paris Life," which give opportunity for showing pretty costumes and ringing in some now
and funny work.
After this came an olio made up of some fine specialties. The act of Smith und Lord was very laughable. They are clever knockabout artists, and thoir act is different from tho well worn ones of that kind of work.
Miss Lizzie Raymond, tall and graceful, was very pleasing in her songs and dances, and Sam Bernard, as a German dialect commedian, was good. He gave too, somo very clover character impersonations.—Jhtffalo AV«r#.
DePanw and tho Drama.
The following associated press dispatch shows how the attitude of DePauw University dictates tho vaiue of property at Greencastle, as well as defining the attitude of that institution on the drama: "The Ilanneman Opera House in this city, which vas built at a cost of $36,000, whs sold to-day for George Blake anil Henry Renick being

On the first lloor the large and increasing custom is waited on and hero yon can see their stock of goods, beautifully dis played. The third tloor is occupied by the candy factory and a personal in speclion and examination will show that in this department everything is clean and only the purest of sugar and confections are used. There is only one way to cure deafness, and that is by constitutional remedies. Deafness is caused by an inflamed condition of tho mncous lining of tho Eustachian Tube. When this tube gets inflamed you have a rumbling sound or imperfect hearing, and when it is entirely closed, Deafness is the re. enlt, aud unless tho inflammation can bo taken out and this tube restored to its normal condition, hearing will be destroyed forever nine cases out of ten are caused by catarrh, which is nothing but an inflamed condition of the mu cous surfaces. We will give One Hun dred Dollars for any case of Deafness (caused by catarrh) that we cannot cure by -taking Hall's Catarrh Cure. Send for circulars free.
