The Goodbai' Case.

I IVl'ow HyU'ti was upon the witueus stand most of yesterday afternoon in tho 1 Goodbar will contest ease. Ho gnve I lengthy testimony in regard to his deceased uncle's habits, sickness, mental con .lit ion and declarations for some tiu.e 1 previous to his death. He aworo that ho had nover in any way intimated to his uncle that lie wished to bo favored in the will. His undo was left wholly to his own inclinations in the matter and during his residence at the Hyten home he was subjected to the least presr sure as to the bestowai ot his property.

Neither the witness nor any of his family ever talked with him on the subject. This morning a Jnumber ot other witnesses were examined bat nothing new or startling was elicited from their testimony. It* is the same tiresome grind of nothingness with which the case began. Lawyers and all interested say they never listened to the trial of a duller or more uninteresting case. "The muiintnins groaned and gnve up a mouse.". Never was the old saw better osemplified. The members of the Goodbar family who have been in attendance all the week are thoroughly disgusted and two or three good people on either side of the case are singled out by them as subjects for some very uncomplimentary remarks. The suit has made a big hole in the estate and what wili come of it remains to be seen. This noon th. court adjourned until Moiul iv when the 'irgnments will lie heard and the case go to the jnry._

Development in Advertising. .. In no department of the modern newspaper has there been greater or more marked improvement shown than in the liel'i of advertising. Thero is a renter display of taste and literary style in the composition, and an evident effort is maiie to appeal to the in telligence and 'refinement- of the reader. This is seen not only in the advertisements .of the large mercantile establishments, where trained skill is employe:!, but as well in the three line adadvertisement whioli is written by the advertiser himself, and which, in terseness and direciness of style, can lay claim to great literary merit. The development of advertising may yet lead to. the establishment of special courses tramini in business colleges. Already nearly §525.000,000 «re spent annually in the United.States

A Great Play,

In his great production ''Shenandoah" which is coming hero next Friday evening iironson Howard has sue cessfully solved the problem of writing a play with the great civil war 11sa plot. He has avoided ivounding the feelings of either the blue fir the grey, and yet he tells a story of powerful interest. All tho world admires a brave'man. Each side has a hero and heroine in this drama, which is rich in sentiment, pathos and human feeling. It is intensely exciting, without the improbable situations so common in most of the modern plays. A Union soldier and a Confederate soldiei are the principal haracters. lioth are actuated by tht highest sense of honor ami the loftiest iatriotism. ".Shenandoah'' is devoid the prejudice and passion of tie fra'r' sidal strife. It is UD inspiration, and ts success has been no greater than the merits of the production deserve. Everybody should see it.
