The Stat Board of Agriculture Scandal. The State Board of Agriculture held an important meeting at Indianapolis yesterday and let the light shine in on the scandal connected with the purchase of a new site for the State fair grounds. The bribery of certain members had been ehnrgod and K. M. Lockhart on whom the thim had fastened prepared to make a statement. The board was going into secret session but owing to the objection of J. N. Davidson and others it reversed its intentions and gave the whole statement to the public. Mr. Locdhait acknowledged that he had consented to accept a bribe of SI,001,1 from a stranger named liny to be pn if the Miller farm should be chosen. Hi consented to this, however, upon thead vice of three other members who wished the stranger trapped in order to put an end to gossip. I'pon the statements of
IjoeUbart's advisers the board exoner ated Mr. l.ocUb'irt.
An Exodus.
When it was whispered about the streets yesterday afternoon that the grrnd jury had returned 107 indictments there was a wading and gnashing of teeth. Xev.T but once before iu the history of the county had tbo numb«r returned been anything like so large, and the night trains carried away Bev••ral of our enterprising citizens who are search of pastures new and green. One business man closed his establishment and skipped by the light of tbo moon.
I'he grand jury went after everybody and in the next few days olT"nders will be dragged in from ali over the counU to answer for their sins.
