Why sir, if it bo true that the people of this country can not be benefitted by legislation as your langnage implies, why do we elect our Congressmen to assemble at tho capital to make laws for us and spend a billion dollars a year? And why is it that representatives of the moneyed classes of Lambard nnd Wall street meet with them in our national assemblies to control our legislation if they aro not benefitted anil why did it cost tho people of the United

southern Indiana th« condition of the wheat orop compares unfavorably with that of a year afro at this time. It was covered with mow about three weeks during December. The crop is now bare, little thawing and freezing, und the crop not yet commenced to grow. The movement of wheat from farmers' hands is light, with no prospect that it will clinngc until farmers feel more assured than they do now that tho present crop will come out all right. In central Indiana the situation is practically the same. There has been no weather yet warm enough to start wheat growing. In northern Indiana the condition of winter wheat is much inferior to thnt. of a year ago. As a rule the millers aro carrying light .stocks of wheat, and unless prices advance there is no prospect of any increase in receipts.
