The entertainment promises to be very largely attended. —Clark Wray, a professional in guitar music, from Crawfordsville, spent a few days here the first of the week with the Raper folks. There have been some objections advanced by prominent citizens in regard to the cheapness of the electric light sold by the city to private consumers. It has been maintained, and indeed figures have been advanced to prove that if the lights are sold at the present rate the result must be disastrous to the exchequer of the city. There is another side to be considered, however, and in all fairnsss to all parties it is nothing more than right to give illustrations of when the rate maintained here has proved a successful financial venture. At Evansville two rival companies are in the field and have established the 40 cent per light rate which our council uses. The do more than that, they not only wire but furnish renewals as well. The business Las continued on this basis for over a year and satisfactory dividends havo been declared, large enough in fact to warrant both companies in making additions to their plants.

Hon Oomminsioned Officers Appointed. Company I held its first regular meeting last evening and besides receiving several new members transacted some important business. The following non commissioned officers were choten: First duty Sergeant, Clint Guthrie second, Chas. Wilhite third, .Tas. Wilhite fourth, Hal McClamrock. Luke Wood was elected Company Clerk. The corporals areas follows: First, Will Mitchell: Second, Harvey Smith third, J. Boule Fourth, Joe Whittaker. The, company it on the boom and promises to make the crack company of the State.

A Boom in the Ivory Market. Numerous inquiries from parties in different parts of the UnitedStiil.es have been received relative to the Darlington maBtodon tusk, with the object in view of purchasing. Garret lUiorer sent sample of the tusk to one of rhe largest ivory dealers in New York Citv, who, after applying the different tests to ascertain its quality, reports back that it is the purest ivory and from the romains of the extinct mastodon. Ho further stated that the Crawfordsville professor who said it was bone, was a numb-skull. —Darlington Echo.

At Music Ball Monday Evening Barlow Brothers' Minrtrels at the Baldwin Theater last night offered an excellent first part, in- which the good singing by vocalists brilliantly costumc was highly entertaining. "Yes," replied Wea, "ho cannot behave in prison or out and my opinion if ever a man was an incarnation of the world, the tlesh and the devil, especially the devil, he is, and I'm so disgustod with him the mere mention of his name leaves a na6ty taste in my mouth."Writing cipher letters indeed! nnd to some fool woman I'll bet, but ho'll sigh for freedom a long time before ho gets it, I'm thinking. It's all right to go and play on the organ and sail through heavy doors without opening them, etc. etc., as it has been seen to do frequently, but if I ever get close enough I'm going to whisper in the ear of tl.at ghost ta quit loafing around tlie church and parsonage and go whore it's most needed. T'm glad Pettit was not hanged, though God knows ho needod it. Left Some Worldly Effects. Cyrus YanMeter, an old resident of this county nnd well known here as a blind musician, dropped dead the othor evening while playing for a dance near Danville, 111. The Danville Commercial says:

Cyrus VanMeter, the blind musician, who died from the effects of heart disease Wednesday night, while playing for a dance tluee miles east of the city, left considerable personal property, according to the developments of tho coroner's inquest. In a valise was found clothing, letters, and about fifteen whole tickets in the New Orleans lottery, which are still good, besides other things of nominal value. He left also a violin and organette. In the possession of A. B. Benjamin are papers giving him a judgment for §1,892.20, against parties by the name of Myers in Fountain county which will be paid next month. At one time, while a resident of Way no own. Ind., he deeded in trust to Miss Myers two houses, two lots aud,a store building in that place. She afterwards deeded the property to her

Nothinz Dangerous Goes,

There has been some complaint on the part of a few because theY. M. C. A. gymnasium is not supplied with the trapeze and other paraphernalia not" to be found therein. All that are not dangerous are there and that should be enough. The noticeable feature of all the work done Thursday evening was that no trick or fancy work was attempted. There was not a single exercise performed but such as would bring into play the various muscles of the body without any risk to life or liaib. The platform of the physical department of the Young Men's Christian Association is that "all exercises shall be safe, short, easy, beneficial nnd pleasing." This platform has been strictly adhered to by our city association since Mr. McCay took charge of tho work. Mr. Fry has received his training under Mr. McCay, and considering the short time he has been at work the exhibition Thursday night shows that no has not spent the time in vain.

The Most Important Subject of Present Day Settled Beyond Question.

the

The cable dispatches which recently appeared in tho daily papers indicating the great interest felt throughout Europe upon a subject of international interest havo naturally awakened great interest not to say excitement, in this city and throughout the land. It is a well-known fact that the demands of modern life have caused a strain which seemed to shorten life and undermine health generally. Tho efforts made abroad to investigate its cause have been most commendable, nnd we are pleased to say hnve been complemented by similar efforts in America. Careful inquiry has been made among prominent physicians and it is surprising what uniformity of opinion is expressed by thein all. That opinion seems to bo that tho gieat modern disease is kidney trouble, nnd that" the kidneys nre the first organs of the body to be attacked by ovor exertion or over-indulgency, and the first to become weakened by the grip. That this is a most lamentable fact there can be no doubt, but that these troublos can be prevented and cured the investigations made abroad clearly show. In the interest of humanity wo have made similar investigations, and the result is given herewith.

Dr. S. N. Davis said: "People do not know what Bright's disease is. Tho term is applied popularly to every trouble that even remotely affects tho kidneys. There are two forms of tho trouble—one an enlargement and the other a shrinking of the kidneys.''

Dr. Frank T. Andrews says: "The term Bright's disease covess a great many complaints. In fact, any case of albuminaria is called Bright's disease. The majority of these cases are curat le. Tho reason a mnn dies of kidney toouble the inability of the organs to perform its functions."

Dr. S. Clark declares: "There is a time when i.ny man or woman suffering from any form of kidney trouble had cause fcr depair. That time has passed. For the last eight years I have treated every variety of kidney trouble in both men and women, and I do not believe there is a case so sevoro, no matter how long standing, that it cannot bo cured or relieved by the careful and conscientious use of Warner's Safo Cure."

Dr. Chas. W.. Purdy says: "There are many diseases grouped under the head of Bright's disease of the kidneys and one of these most serious forms is almost always accompanied by heart trouble, which frequently causes the death of tho patient. The acute form will kill the patient within a few years unless he receives the proper treatment."

Dr. B. A. Gunn, Dean of the United States Medical Colloge, declares: "For years the treatment of Bright's disease has been largely experimental. I nm independent enough and frank enough to commend most heartily that great remedy—Warner's Safo Cure."

Dr. B. Hosmer affirms: "Acute Bright's disease in children iB curable. The kidneys, you see, are waste gateo, and when they are partially closed, trouble must result."

Dr. Tyre York, of Washington, D. C., asserts: "I think Warner's Safe Cure a great blessing to mankind, and if taken regularly will cure almost any diseaso of tho kidneys. I prescribe it in my practice."

Dr. C. Washington Earl, of Chicago, says: "Diseases of tho kidneys may be slight or aggravated. The object to be attained is to limit the over-worked aud worn-out organs to as little exercise as possible."

Dr. John M. Maples, of Paris, 111 says: "I am a living example of the virtues of Warner's Safe Cure, without which I would have long since been dead.''

Throughout the land wherever inves tigation has been made, the sentiment seems to be tho samo.

The above unquestioned r\nd unquestionable testimony proves beyond a doubt what Mr. H. H. Warnor, of Rochester, N. Y., boldly declared more th 'n ten years ago, namely, that Bright's diseaso of the kidneys can be cured Mr. Warner knew whereof he affirmed
