Ed Voris has his best eye on fat county office. .There will lx) no opposition to the renoniination of Treasurer Button, Surveyor Hunt, Prosecutor Moffett and Coroner Brouatigh. That is there aie no rival Kichmonds in tho field.

Sheriff Bible will probably be forced to a fight for his claims, and it is whispered that your Uncle Alex Harper will again pass tho hat for votes

Frank Wren, of Whitesvillo, is the most formidable candidates among the Democrats for Recorder, but Milt McKee and one or two others have their best eye fixed on the office with an intensity painful to behold.

Higgins, of the hand painted whiskers, has not yet declared whether or not he will bo a candidate for Representative again. He was made somewhat weary by his previous experience.

Gymnasium Exhibition.

Many people have no idea what proper gymnasium work is. They think it is a kind of circus performance where none but expert acrobats can perform this is a mistake for the real objeot of the physical department of the Y. M. C. A. is to develop a symetrical body and secure by regular judicious exercise "a sound mind in a sound body" the best health possible. The platform of all work done in our city gymnasium is that all exorcises shall be safe, short, easy, beneficial and pleasing. Everybody who can ought to attend this exhibition. The admission fee is only 10 cents and- it is hoped that sufficient funds can be raised in this way to purchase some new apparatus. The exhi bition will occur next Thursday even ing at 8 o'clock.

At Music Hall.

A cyclone storm with howling wind, thunder and lightning, trees swaying and bending before the blast, and a final thunderbolt which strikes the penitentiary building, tearing a great hole through the wall, is one of the prominent features of "The Train Wreckers," a new play which is described as "an instantaneous photo of every day lite." We don't very often witness such an event in every day life, but as a matter of fact just such an occurrence took place about ten yerrs ago at the penitentiary at Kingston, Canada. In the confusion several convicts escaped through the breach into the yard below, but they were all re-captured before they could scale the high walls surrounding the prison.—Ex. At Music Hall to-morrow evening.

A

Remedy.

To Urn Editor of Tim JOURNAL. FalsUiff: "though reasons were as plenty us blackberries I will none of them!"

Brother 8. S. Martin is like Falstnff in this particular, I am afraid. If he really thiuks my address to the Alliance at Darlington faulty because it did not propose a remedy for the existing evils, he might be excusable. But how could he hear one part of the speech and remember its general tenor, without hearing and remembering the other? Brother Martin is a man of more than ordinary intelligence. And for this reason I now c-ill his attention to the Senate bill, No, 14o4, drawn by myBolf and presented by Senator I'oCfer, of Kansas, in which ask the government to issuo to the land holders of Indiana, on first mortgage, one-half of tho appraised value of thoi lands, at two por cent, for twenty years, This is a remedy 'ind I am ready to discuss it as a remedy with Brother

Martin, or anybody else at any time and any place. Even the Indianapolis Jour nut does not go so far as to say this is not a remedy. The old party press of Indiana deny that there is any need for more money—that there is any agri cultural depression in this or any other State of this Union. But it will not permit diacussion of this question in its columns.

If Brother Martin will oblige 1110 with his address will send him a paper with a copy of Si'nate bill No. 1,434.

"MR. 00X, OF B0ST0H,"

Tae OoBtumes of the Ben Eur Tableaux Horrify the Prudes of the Old Bay State.

Tho following special from Springfield' Mass., to the St. Louis Globt-Demotru.1 will be of peculiar interest in Crawfords. ville:

Springfield society is in something of a stew because twelve of the loveliest buds, who had been selected to take part in a Ben Hur entertainment for sweet charity's sake, have refused to don the tights and abbreviated Bkirts provided by the management. The entertainment, which will be in the nature of a speotacular and pantomime, is under tbe management of Messrs. \V. C. Clark and D. W. Cox, of Boston, who recently brought twelve men over with all the necessary scenery and costumes, and will share the proceeds with tho Hampden county Children's Aid Society. The local committee of arrangements is composed of the leaders in local society. There aro to be 150 persons in tho cast. Most of the important parts had been ussigned and the young society buds had gone to considerable expense to furnish costumes of their own, which they wore to the first rehearsal one day this week. The Boston director shocked the girls by saying their home-mado costumes wore not suitable for the presentation. Then he reached down into the trunks and hauled forth some gauzy creations of tho costumer's skill, whioh one piquant miss described as "a cross between a full-dress costume and a bath ing suit." They positrrely refused to appear before the public in such gar. ments, and there the matter rests at present."

Those "terrible costumes'' did not shock anybody in the scores of towns 'n the Southern, Western and Middle States when the tableaux were pre. sented and those dear creatures in the old Bay State should have a chaporon apiece while those "horrid Boston managers" aro in town. It grieves ns to think that D. W. Cox should go clear back on his Crawfordsville home while in the effete East and pese as a Boston dude. If he had only said he was from Crawfordsville any costume whatsoever would have been accepted without demur.

Darlinffton vg. Shannondale. A uitter strife has arisen between the towns of Darlington and Shannondale, due to the purchase of tho last strip of toll road in Montgomery county. The purchase was ordered last Wednesday. The strip in question is a four-mile pike known as the Crawfordsville, Smartsburg & Eastern road. It extended from Darlington to Shaanondale, and its purohose was opposed by the former town as much as it was favored by Shannondale. As the Darlington precinct has a much greater voting population than the Shannondale, it seemed that tbe proposed purchase would be voted down, but ignorance of the laws by Darlington people caused their defeat. The election morning came but the polls were not opened at Darlington, the authorities awaiting tho arrival of the paraphernalia incident to the Australian system. It did not come, and no votes were cast in Darlington. At Shannondale the election went on under the rules observed during the old regime. The vote favored the purchase by a tremendous majority, and the election returns have been made to the Auditor, who will turn them in at the next session of the board of commissioners. Auditor Qoben laughs at the protest of the Darlington people, and declares the election to be valid. A special road election law was passed two days after the Australian law, by which special elections for the purchase of toll roads, etc., can be held under the old system o" voting. Goben holds that the people of Darlington, by their ig. nornnce of the law, have lost their rights. The people of Darlington are not reconciled to the state of affairs, however, and will attempt to have the election set asido.

Indianapolis Disasters,

"The Surgical Institute holocaust will stand second in the list of the city's calamities. The first was the state fair explosion of 1869, when twonty-eight persons were killed outright and fifty injured, some of whom died. The next was the luBt disaster, that of the sur gical institute, and tho Bowen-Merrill calamity ranks third. After this comes the Hood accident of Pogue's rnu in 1882, in which ton persons were drowned Close to Indianapolis havo occurred dis asters like the Carmel and Lroad Rip pie wrecks, in which the loss of life was great. In '71 there was a cave-in in a Kentucky avenuo sewer in which five men wore killed.—1ndianitpolis

What It Really «. .4 Newspaper Inveatigation Keveals U* Vausr nid It* Danger*. (New York TelegTam.)

Many a strong, well-built man loaves homs to-day, bsfors night he will havs a chill, and in a few honrs ha will be dead! This is ths way the dreaded pneumonia takss people off. The list of notable men who ai* its Tiotim* is appalling!

William J. Florence, the popular actor who was supporting Joseph Jefferson is taken with a ehill while aoting. Next day the physicians tell us he is doing well. In two days-he is dead.

Gon. Meigs, able, loyal, brave, while taking a bath, feels a sndden tremor, a weakness, and is hurri 3d to his death.

Every one dreads this prevalent disorder. Its coming is sudden, its termination usually speedy.

What causes the terrible scourge* It is not "in the air"—infectious or contagious. It results from exposure, changes of weather, and prevails more among the apparently healthy than among the feeble.

Pneumonia, we are told, is invited by a certain condition of the system, indicated it one has occasional chills and fever, a tendenoy to oulds in the throat and lungs, rheumatio and neuralgio pains, extreme tired feelings, short breath and pleuritic stitches in the side, hot and dry -skin, loss of strength and virility. These indications may not appear together, they may come, disappear and re-appear, the person not realizing that they are nature's warnings of a coming oalamity.

A celebrated New York physican recently told the Tribune that pneumooia was a secondary disorder, the exposure and cold being simply the agent which develops the disease, already dormant in t.he system, because the kidneys have been but partially doing their dutv. In short, pneumonia is an early indication of a bright's diseased condition. This impaired action may exist for years without the patient suspecting it, because no pain will be felt in the kidneys or their vicinity and often it can be detected only by ohemical and microscopioal examination.

DSPRIGK

The only safeguard against pneumonia is to maintain a vigorous condition of the system, and thus prevent its attacks, by using whatever will radically and effectually restore full vitality to the kidneys, for pneumonia can never be prevented when they are disordered. There are scores of men, snd women too, who are only too willing to preserve these great organs and prevent pneumonia who do not know how to do so It is no easy task. It requires eare and the careful use of just the proper thing. MaDy persona, have qaestioned what is the best thing to use, but physicians are quite generally agreed that nothing so safely and so certainly does this as Warner's Safe Cure. It is a remedy known to millions and commended as a standard specifio wherever known. It does not pretend to cure an attack of pneumonia, but it does and can remove the cause of and prevent that disease if taken in time. No reasonable man can doubt this it he regards the personal experience of thousands of honorable men worthy his favor.

When a physician says his patient has either bright's disease or pneumonia, he confesses his inability to cure, and in a measure he sonsiders his responsibility ended. In many instances, indeeo, persons are reported as dying from pneumonia, heart disease, apoplexy and convulsions when the real cause of death and so known by the physicians is this kidney consumption. Thousands of people have it-without knowing it and perish of it because their physician wil] not tell them the:facts! The same fate awaits every one who will not exercise his judgment in suoh a matter and be true to himself, his family and to society.
