Orit exports continue to be very large. For the month of November the increase in exports of breadstnEfs over the corresjxinding month of lust year was nearly §17,000,1)00. During the eleven months ending November 30 there has been an increase of more than $67,000,000 in these exports, and the total reaches the enormous sum of $194,077.o7.
THE silk industry of the United Statec has hud a .remarkable growth. We are second only to France in our manufactures of silk, the value of which Inst year was $00,000,000, three-fifths the value of French silk production. The ,000 American silk operatives of 187-1 have grown to 50,000. In that year wo made $30,000,000 worth of silk and imported about $23,000,000. In 1890 the corresj)onding figures were $66,000,000 to $3-1,000,000 less tho duty. Silk factories have sprung up from New Kngliind to Kansas. That the quality and patterns of Americ in silks are constantly improving need hardly be added, for our inventors have been active in this branch as in all others.
REPHESENTATivn IJOAN", of Ohio, is preparing a bill which he will soon introduce in Congress, that will revolutionize the whole matter of adjudicating pension claims. Ho has taken the com-mon-sense ground that when a soldier enlisted, he was examined by a board of army surgeons, and his being accepted isjrima /cicic evidence of his soundness of body. This, he thinks, should do away with the present requirement of proof of a pension applicant's good health at the time of enlistment, which is absolutely impossible to furnish in many cases, because those who could give the required testimony are all dead. The affidavit of the claimant that he is suffering from disease contracted in the ine of duty, supported by the evidence of a physician that he is in such condition, is to lie considered sufficient to make out a cane. If the government disputes the claim the burden of proof will rest upon it and not the soldier,
Tariff Questions to Be Answered. A\ hy did the authors of the McKinley bill admit sugar free and put a higher tariff on tin plate? If free trade sugar reduces the price of sugar, why will not freo tin plate reduce the price of tin plate': These questions will be answered at the Republican club meet ing next Monday evening by P. S. Ken neily.

Theater goers who have been surfeited with society plays, melodramas with mpossible plots and ponderous improbable scenery and effects, will welcome a comedy that with bright dialogue, quick action, eatchy 6ongs, nimble dances and beautiful music gives nu evening of pure, solid, fun. Such a comedy is "A Turkish Bath," which will be given at Music Hall ac Monday evening next. The Vancouver Telegrirm says: "An audience that packed the Itnjjerial in every part turned out to hear the "Turkish Bath" last night and to judge from the applause and laughter they enjoyed its music and its ludicrous situations. Miss Heath as "Little Dot" was charmingly child-like and her "Won't you come out and play" and "Tale of woe" brought down the house. Frank Murphy as policeman McGoogle was funny. The singing of the Eckert's was really excellent.

What spectacle is more disgusting than that of a man or woman with a skin disease which shows itself in pimples or blotches on hands, arms, face and neck? It is Bimply impure blood. See what Brandreth's Pills did for a chronic case: George Chapman, 1'inconing, Mich., says: "For years I was in tho Mounted Infantry in the U. S. Army, residing during that time principally in Texas. Almost all of that time I had a chronic skin disease, characterized by an eruption over the entire surface of my legs and thighs, arms and chest. The doctors termed it eczema. I had given up all hopes of ever being cured, when Brandreth's Pills were recommended to me. I concluded to try them, and I uave thanked God daily since then that J. did so I used them for about thr«e montliB and by that time was completely cured and have never had any trouble since."

Among the thousands of testimonials of cures by Dr. Miles's New Heart Cure, is that of Nathan Allisons, well known citizen at Glen Rock, Pa., who for years had shortness of breath, sleeplessness, pain in left side, shoulders, smothering spells, stc.-, one bottle of Dr. Miles' New Heart Cure and one box of Nerve and Liver Pills, cured him. Peter Jaquet, Salem. N. J., is another witness. For twenty years suffered with Heart Disease, was turned away by physicians as incurable, death stared him in the face, could not lay down for fear of smothering to death. Immediately after using New Cure he felt better and could lay down and sleep all night, and is now a well man. The Now Cure is sold, also free book, by Nye & Co.

Metropolitan Police taw Vnlht. IsniAXAPOl.Is, lnd., Dec. 19.—The supreme court has decided the case of the Terre Haute metropolitan police by holding the act u» ler which it was created to be valid. The act was passed by the legislature of 1SSI0 and provided that all cities having a school population of over 1-4,000 shall have a metropolitan police, force appointed by a board to be chosen by the governor, auditor, secretary and treasurer of state. Acting under this law a board was appointed, but its authority was questioned by the local authorities, the republicans of the city, and the case was taken into court on the ground of unconstitutionality. Tho lnws of health nre taught in the schools but not in a way to bo of much practical benefit and nre never illustrated by living examples, which in ninny cases might easily be done. If some scholar, who hnd just contracted cold, was brought before tho school, so that all could hear tho dry, loud cough and know its significance see the thin white coating on the tongue and later, as the cold developed, see tho profuse watery expectoration and thin watery discharge from the nose, not one of them would ever forget what the first symptoms of a cold were. The scholar should then be given Chamberlain's Cough Kemedy freely, that all might see that even severe cold could be cured in one or two days, or at least grently mitigated, when properly treated as soon as the first symptoms appear. This remedy is famous for its cures of coughs colds and croup. It is made especially for these diseases and is the most prompt and most reliable medicine known for the purpose. 50 cent bottles for sale by Nye & Co.
