Their Third Party.
C. M. Travis and wife completed their entertainments Saturday evening by a third brilliant and successful parly at their east Main street residence. A largo assembly of guests were present and the same pleasant and social features which marked the two previous parties wore characteristic of the affair of Saturday eyening.

Hot Until Spring.
Those citizens expecting to illuminate their residences with tho incandescent ghts this winter will be sadly disappointed. So great has been 1110 demand by the business men for the light that it will be impossible for the council to et to residence lighting before spring. It is thought that about April of May tho machinery for supplying tho houses will be put in.
Prof. Cumnock To-morrow Hight. The first entertainment of tho members' winter course series of the Y. M. C. A., was given last evening, consisting of readings by Prof. R.[L. Cumnock, of the Northwestern University of Evanston, III., every seat being occupied, notwithstanding the unusual attractions at home incident to Thanksgiving evening. Tho professor is certainly an elocutionist of rare powers, both natural and acquired, and when his atidienco was not applauding or laughing they were hushed by the pathos of tho scenes he so ividly depicted.—Detroit Frcsx Pres.".

"Captain Karl."
Charles A. Gardner in his performance of Capt. Karl, at tho Academy of Music last night delighted a largo audience ithered there to be amused by song and dance and artistic character acting. The play was something more than this. It was a uiblodran. 1 a! funding in romantic sentiment auj situations, with a musical accompaniment only in parts which are especially thrilling or pathetic. Mr. Gardener, in presenting occontric romantic character, makes no effort to imitate others who have, by original or natural gifts, succeeded in certain lines. Mr. Gardener has to a certain extent originated something wherein his own natural abilities show to the best advantage. The broad German character does not appear, but in its stead a refined and sentimental character whoso leading instincts are hearty good humor and a chivalrous adherence to correct and honorable deportment. "The Lilac" and the "Bubble Song" were very pleasing, especially the latter, where three little tots gave an object lesson in making bubbles while the song was being sung.—linffalo Timcx, Sept. 4, 1891.
Captain Karl will bo at Music Hall to-morrow evening
Two ires.
The fiie alarm sounded twice yesterday furnishing unusual and exhilarating diversion for the standing army of loafers on tho streets. Tho first alarm turned in shortly aftor noon called the department out to near the corner of College and Plum to tho old Proctor property now owned by George Hanna and occupied by Charley Vancleavo. Tho fire originated in a defective Hue, but was promptly extinguished by the department at a loss of loss than 875.
Before 2 o'clock the department was called out aga'n to tl roar of tl 99 ce: store where a number of goodB boxes were on fire and threatening to communicate the llames to tho store rooms This firo was caused by some good and worthy citizen throwing his cigar stub in a box of dry trash. The lire was ptickly subdued.
1'ree Tuition at Purdue.

Under this rule the Farm era' Council and the Farmers' Mutual Benefit Association have appointed committees to whom application shall be made. The committee for the Farmers' Council is composed of P. S. Kennedy and J. M. Hnrsbborger, and for tho F. M. B. A. it is A. P. Hanna, W. L. Anderson and J. M. Harshbarger. Any young man who desires to avail himself of this rare opportunity should make application at once to either of the above named gentlemen.
Saturday Evening Pleasantry. There was quite a little sputter in the north end last evening. Frank Seauian went to tho home of his mother-in-law Mrs. Coony Scott, and very naturally got into a very serious discussion with the excellent and estimable old lady. It all ended in the headstrong Frank delivering upon her damask cheek a smack which is still echoing down the long corridors of time. Well, of course, when the echo passed the police headquarters it started out the officers who diligently followed the echo to its source an'1 captured Frank, landing him in the county jailjwith tho neatness and dispatch equal to that with vnich he was fined by Mayor Carr this morning.
A Milk Trust Threatened.
The milk men are seriously agitating the advisability of raising the price of lacteal fluid to GJ cents a quart. They assert that at the present rate they are unable to make a son from November until April, the whole profit being made dnring the season of pasturage. All the dealers with one, or perhaps two, exceptions are willing to go into the trust- and no one need be surprised to learn of a raise in the rates. More appalling things have happened.
The Wabash Avenue Improvement. It really seems that the proposed improyement of oast Wabash avenue is to go by the board. The oouncil does not seem inclined to hold Mr. Bandel to the contract and some grave doubts have arisen in the minds of some as to whether the specifications adopted are the best to be obtained. The whole thing will probably be revised before any work is done.
VKAF.MCSS CAN'T BKCURElt by local applications, as they cannot
reach the diseased portion of the ear. There is only one way to cure deafness, and that is by constitutional remedies. Deafness is caused by an inflamed condition of tho mucous lining of the Eustachian Tube. When this tube gets inflamed you have a rumbling sound or imperfect hearing, and when it is entirely closed, Deafness is tbe result, aud unless the inflammation can be taken out nnd this tube restored to its normal condition, hearing will be destroyed forever nine cases out of ten are caused by catarrh, which is nothing but an inflamed condition of the mucous surfaces. We will give One Hun dred Dollars for any case of Deafness (caused by catarrh) that we cannot cure by taking Hall's Catarrh Cure, Send for circulars free.
