''BUILD UP THE C^"wtv
5T.n
In an article advocating the policy of building up Danville, Illinois, the Cummcixial of that city points to Crawfordsville showing the cordial relations existing between the people of Montgomery county and the people of Crawfordsville. The Cuiiiiiic/Yhil says: "The people of Montgomery county evince great pride in their flourishing county town and sjeak good words for it both at home and abroad. Their loyalty is manifest in the large country trade which Crawfordsville enjoys. By concentrating trade, political affairs, social entertainment, and culture in their county seat they have a little city in which they have a laudable pride. Go where you may in Montgomery county, ami you will hear kindly spoken words for Crawfordsville. Other towns flourish in the rich soil of that fortunate locality but there is apparent no jealonsy of Crawfordsville. Crawfordsville is a town without resources except as to it agricultural wealth, it lias no coal mines, few factories, and no inducement for further population beyond that of the location of Wabash College. Its population is only half that of Danville. But. the farmers of that county know that as Crawfordsville grows so will their land grow in value and therefore they want it to grow. The disposition of Vermillion county, farmers ought to so toward Danville. It is already a city to be proud of, has all the metropolitan conveniences and comforts of larger cities, possesses resources which are bound to make it thrifty, solid and progressive, and is the certain city of the future in eastern Illinois.''
is said that seven hundred patients would be a low estimate of the number at Dwight, in the Keeley Institute for the cure of the liquor habit. Kach of theso pays 8'2o a week for the treatment. This means £17,500 per week, or $!)10,000 from tho local patients alone. In addition there are those treated at home. Medicine for these is shipped at S9 case. An average of 200 cases are sent from Dwigbt every day, making an additional $(So5,*200 a year. This makes a total income of §1.505,200 a year from patents direct. Branches are being constantly established all over the country, and from $10,000 to §50,000 cash must be paid before the right to establish one is given. At least halt a million has been paid in this way by the twenty odd branches already started. Dr. Keeley employes ten physicians at Dwight, and a liberal estimate of their aggregate salary would be §40,000 per annum.
The remaining expenses of the institute are certainly not more that §350,000 annually, so you see the Keeley insti tute makes above nil expenses^imething like §1,175,0000 a Tear.'

This change mmle by the Democratic Legis lature of Michigan tho Cuuni'i- has heretofore Btrongly censured."

The laws of health are taught in the schools but not in a way to be of much practical benefit and are never illustrated by living examples, which in many cases might easily be done. If some scholar, who had just contracted a cold, was brought before tho school, so that all could hear the dry, loud cough and know its significance see the thin white coating on the tongne and later, as the cold developed, see the profuse watery expectoration and thin watery discharge from the nose, not one of them would evor forget what the first symptomB of a cold were. The scholar should then be given Chamberlain's Cough Remedy freely, that all might see that even a severe cold could be cured in one or two days, or at least greatly mitigated, when properly treated as soon as the first symptoms appear. This remedy is famous for its enres of coughs colds and croup. It is made especially for these diseases and is the most prompt and most reliable medicine known for tho purpose. 50 cent bottles for sale by Nye & Co.
