The Show Last Night.

The gallery was full and there waa also a good crowd down stairs. The "Stowaway" is a poorly written play and while those presenting it, are doubtless embryonic Booths and Bornhardts they will have to shed some of their beef and alter their acting before they will be appreciated. The special scenery -was good but outside of the acting of the villian the performance was tolerably thin. The villian, by the way, was roundly hissed by the audience, when ho appeared before tho curtain with the liuly he had murdered in cold blood five minutes before.

Hunting a Villian.

A grievous wrong was done last night for which reparation should bo made. As Mrs. Malichi Bill Scott was passing quietly along the street she was accosted with insulting language by a young blade named Brennan. She told her husband Malichi and he, swelling with righteous indignation, spent lwlf the night in a vain search for the offender, calling in tho assistance of the police. Mr. Scott makes the very reasonable assertion that ho had a hard struggle to win his blooming wife an.i now that he has her ho intends that she shall be as safe from insult as the American Hag in Clarke township.

Tom Blunt to Riley.

Several days ago Rev, G. W. Switzer delivered au address before a teachers' institnto, and in the course of his remarks took occasion to criticise Riloy and Eggleston for the shadow they have cast upon the reputation of Hoosierdom by holding up to ridicule the- manners, costumes and dialect of fifty years ago and not explaining in foot notes that all these have long since passed away. The other day Mr. Switzer received the appended, very creditable verses together with the communication preceding them. Neither Mr. Switzer nor Tiie Jouhnal knows who Tom Blunt ip, but for a "scrub" poet he does exceedingly well:

Mb. G. W. Switzer:—The effect of Dr. Eggleston's and Riley's productions on the opinions of eastern literatures, and other people as well, which you mentioned to-day, suggested itself to the writer a couple of years ago, at which time lis or (she) gave utterance (on paper) to the enclosed doggerel.
