COT.vmHi's, O., Dec. :i.—^The executive committee of the L'nitedMine Workers of America has issued an appeal to the members of tlio order everywhere for help for the striking miners of Indiana. They declare the principle at issue there to be one of vital interest to all the craft and solicit contributions for the support of the idle miners there.

WASHINGTON, lnd.. Dee. 3.—The coalminers' strike in this district was settled at a meeting of miners and operators Wednesday. The operators ajjree to pay the advance demanded, which will bring the price of mining to seventy-live cents a ton. To-day is the date set for the I'abel mines to resume operation. One thousand men were engaged in the strike, which lasted two weeks.

MeCloud of the charge of counterfeiting when it was the intention to declare him guilty. The astounded jury at once protested that the verdict nuts not the one agreed on, and after a little investigation it was discovered that the foreman had simply made a mistake. It was made the occasion of a lecture by Judge Woods, who thought that if the verdict had been returned sealed instead of in the presence of tl jnrv the prisoner would be entitled to his liberty. As it was, however, the sentence was changed to eighteen months imprisonment.

The names of the leaders of the mob are known to the otlicers and they express determination to bring them ti justice. The grand jury will meet en Monday and the inquiry will be begun at once. There is strong sympathy with tile mob. and those who participated in the affair feel confident that the grand jury will not return indictments.

Intense excitement exists in this city owing to a rumor that a mob is being organized at Koyleston, ii miles Past of here, for the purpose of lynching .lesse Jacobs, who killed his brother, Ellsworth Jacobs, last Friday night at that village. The excitement extends all over the eastern part of the county. Jacobs is now in jail in this city. Sheriff Wratten is making arrangements to protect the prisoner and if necessary will call on the state militia. in T'ift V'Oiii' V'*arn.
MAIUSON. Ind.. Dec. Wesley Scott, postmaster at Scottsville, Floyd county, this state, enjoys the distinction of being the oldest postmaster in point of consecutive rvice in the United States, he having held that office without a break since IS l'l. a period of exactly fifty-one years. Mr. Scott has received a communication from Postmaster (IcneWU Wanamaker calling attention to the above fact and congratulating hiin on his long and faithful service.
