WHEN the lntv on steel rails was imposed, free trailers held up their hands in horror, and protested against the ruinous policy. They said that, as the tariff was a tax, our consumers must pay the who'e or it, and steel rails would never comedown in price and alleged further that we could not make steel rails in this country anyhow except at ruinous cost. L'ist year we made in this country over '2.UUD.OOO tons of Bessemer steel rails, and they wore sold at less than one-iourth of their price before tho tariff was put on. And so it will bo with tin. HER REASON.

A Woman rsir.illy Says "It's So ltrvniisii It Is So." "It's so 'cause it Is so!"

This was her reason. It is needless to say that she was—a woman, ller answer suggested something to a bystander, who said: "That is a woman over and over again. When she comes to a conclusion she seldom knows how she lias attained thereto, and if you should ask her why she thinks thus and so, she will usually say: 'Oh, it is so 'cause it Is so.' "Is woman superior man! That, my dear fellow, is what Aristotle would call a blind question if you only looked you could judge for yourself. However, tfio analysis ought not to consider superiority or inferiority, but rather equality and from this standard (a fair one to the men at least), I should conclude: That women are different than men. That is all. Simply different. Different, too, in many ways, especially in qualities of mind. Men think. Women act. As the gifted Arsene Houssayo has it: 'All men are philosophers, all women actresses.' Men worry themselves with judgments, reasons, causes, considerations, propositions, stir up the whole mass—logical and illogical—and then make many wrong conclusions. On the other hand, woman, poor, unthinking, blind, adoring Woman (this time with a capital \V) throws reason and judgment to the wind, ditto considerations, ditto logical and illogical propositions, then brings that wonderful, baflling instinct o£ hers into movement—and nine times out of ten reaches a conclusion that is simply the cssonco of truth and logic. How does she do it? How do you suppose a mere pigmy man can say? He holds up both his hands and says wonderful! wonderful! while she, unconscious that she is such nn intellectual marvel, merely smi'.es demurely—accepting without hesitation the plaudits of the main guy. Isn't this so, f.izette? Why, of course, it is—'it's so 'cause it is so!"1—Detroit Free Press.
