Lvery one in Oklahoma is anxious that John Jinrford should bo appointed to succeed Gov. Steele, resigned. Tho following from tho Oklakoma Citj (7a.
Hi', a Dunoeratic paper, shows how the unterrilied would regard his appointment: "Heading the list of the "favorably mentioned" in Oklahoma city is the name of Judge Burford, register of the land oflico. He is also president of the Commercial Club, an organization ostensibly formed to push tho business of Oklahoma City, but really being used as a lever to boost Republican politicians into ollice. Besides this alleged "inllooence''tho Judgo is personally quite genial and sociable and ir he had a ghost or a chance or getting tho appointment we don't know that it would create any serious riot ill Oklahoma City, whatever tho effect may bo in Guthrie."
OauseJofMrs. W, F. Olark'sDeath. The result ot the postmortem examination, hold by l)rs. Barcus, Campbell and Simison, on tho body or the lato Mrs. W. F. Clark, wife of the then pastor of tho Shawnee Mound M. 11 church reveals tli3 fact that she died of exhaustion from hemorrhage of the stomach, the result of cirrhasis of the liver. The examination further revealed that there was not a single convulsion and not a symptom to indicate that her death was similar to that of Mrs. Fred Pettit. This certainly explodes the theory that the soil about tho parsonage contains some poisonous matter that will cause tho death of thoso residing there. Tho report ol those who made tho postmortem has just been made to Dr. W. H. Petors, who kindly gave tho information to a Courier reporter this morning.

Toot and Mouth Affection of Oattlo. This difloaso has been confounded with tho contagious foot and mouth disease of Europe which does not prevail nnd hiis not recently existed in America. Tho form of foot and mouth disease now quite prevalent in Indiana was first noticed in 1890 in Missouri and Illinois. It is characterized by stiffness and soronoBs of the limbs, rendering somo nnimals almost unable to walk. Tho muzzle nnd lips become hard and swollen, ropy saliva dribbles from tho mouth and the jaws are moved in a spasmodic, jerky manner. The lining membrauo of tho mouth is colored bright rod or scarlet tho pad (gums of tho upper jaw against which the front teeth ot the lower jaw press) and tho gums along tho front teeth slough off, loaving raw surface extremely sore, which bleeds easily. The noso and lips Buffer similarly but not to so groat an extent, and tho teats aro also frequently sore. Constipation is usually present, ending frequently in diarrhiea. It has none of tho characteristic symptoms of the contagious foot and mouth disease of cattle, and all efforts to transmit it from one animal to another have so far failed. It is possibly due to somo acrid or irritant substance contained in the foot. Tho irritation of tho bowels and slight constipation should be overcome bv giving one quart ot raw ilax seed oil and following with one pint ot it twice daily until the bowels move freely. Tho mouth should be bathed twice daily with a mild astringent wash, such as tho following: oz. Tannic Acid 1 oz. Powdered I36rax 8 oz. Glycerine, mixed together with enough water to make one quart. Soft, sloppy food only, should bo fed and plenty of good water given for drinking. Purdue University publishes its experimental results, tor the benefit ot farmors, from timo to time. A wheat bulletin has recently been issued. Your name and postollico uldress will secure you those documents free. Whatever special branch ot farming you are following, pluaso indicate it your application. Address C. S. Plumb, Director, Lafayette, Indiana.
Jones Jolted.
Laat ovoning thoro was an exciting row at llioofHce ot the natural gas company. A certain Mr. Jones, an alien tough, who was loaded down to the guards with beer and a very poor qualitj' of whisky, insisted that there was le him tho magnificent sum of SI.12 from tho company. The money was not due him, and moreover there was a bill amounting to -St for board lodged against Mr. Jones by tho proprietor of tho Edwards house. When John Manson refused to pay tho 81.12, Jones becamo very loud and profane, wicked oaths and abuse filling tho air and attracting large crowd in front of tho office. When ttio proceedings were most interesting Superintendent McAlevy entered tho room and ordered Jones to leave. Jones then began on him, nnd the brawny McAlevy at once collared him, and giving him a good swing threw him through the open door into the gutter. Instead ot being satisfied Jones returned and McAlevy again grasped him, and ehaking him liko a rat lifted him bodily from tho floor and throw him upon tho sidewalk like a spoiled toma to. As Jones sailed through the air ho came in contact th the glass door nnd went through it liko a circus rider through a paper hoop. He did not return again, but crawled off to 6ober up,

Wesley Foster is under a cloud. Ho nrrived homo from tho Kankakee Wednosdnv in order to accompany Gen. Wallace to Cedar Lake on a fishing excursion. Wesley called on tho General in tho afternoon and got alittlo tnonoy to obtain somo needed articlos. This morning when the Geuoral left, Wesley was not on hand and the General was in no good humor. The reason thnt Wesley £did not appear came to light later on when ho was brought up from tho county jail and fined tor assaulting tho sacred person ot li. B. Smith, our colored sago. It seems that Wos had invited R. B. to drink with him last night and quickly gulping down his glass ot rod-eye had sloped, leaving R. B. to settle the bill.
When R. B. remonstrated with him later on Wes replied by smashing him between tho oyos and was straightway lodged in jail.

Mrs. Sallio Campbell's homo camo nearly burning last week, the result of carelessness. She closed a flue with a piece of carpet, which took fire, falling to tho lloor. When discovered the fire was almost beyond control.
Mr. Luzader has completed the required list of pupils for a singing school which he will op. at once. This is what is very much needed as the singing has run down almost to the "sticking point" and needs resuscitating. Many of tho young people would bo greatly benefitted by taking advantago tago of this grand opportunity. Mr. Luzader has the reputation of boing a sujjerb vocalist.
I suppose tho political hackneys here, judging from their silence, are secretly whetting their cutlasses preparatory to a vigorous onslaught in 1892. From what little I can hear the Republicans are much gratified at tho turn'mattors are taking in Ohio in the McKinley and Campbell canvass but tho Democrats who vote early and often in old Ripley are moving. We presume they are settling somo nonderous plan to "tare-off" the "tar-iff." It is too bad to kick at protection and selfinterest and consequently topple over. It is wonder that somo people don't kick at the protection ot homo enterprise and try to loat tho inventor out of royalties.
