Mothing in Tins Pettit Thoory. It is reported that there is a now thoory in tho Pettit case. Tho theory takes the form and figure of what is known as "ground poisoning." Tho story is told _that tho wifo of Rev. W. F. Clark, who recently died at Shawnee Mound, in tho same house in which .Mrs. Pettit died, betrayod tho same symptoms as those that characterized Mrs. Pettit's last illness. Ami upon this tho theory of "ground poisoning" is based. But there is nothing in it. A /on rniil representative had a conversaion with Dr. S. S. Clark, of Logansport, ist week. When the new thoory was nentioned, Dr. Clark said: "That wholo story is nbsolutoly groundless. Rev. Clnrk is my brother aud I know nil abont tho death o£ his wife. She died of cancer of the liver. A post mortem was held nnd this fact established beyond question.-—Delphi Journal.
To Do or Die.
Tho Wabash College foot ball eleven, attired in their last year's suits and their most .winning smiles, left this afternoon for Bloomington where they will black eyes and break limbs with eleven similar young bpeks from the State University to-morrow. Tho Wnbnsh team is reasonably confident of victory and under tho chuperonago of manager Edgar Evans will doport themselves quite seemly in tho presence of Bloomington's fair co-eds. Tho following is tho makeup of tho Wabash tonm and it would be hard to encompass as mnch brain, bluff and muscl'3 in eleven other mon: Center rush, Meteer guards, Gentry nnd Jernegan tnckles, Mnrtin nnd Wyno coop: end rnsli, Prunk nnd Wnrch half-backs, Domnree nnd Adnms qunr-tor-back nnd enptain, Erickson full back, Blnir. Wo trust tho Wnbash team will go in for goro and bring back a weird collection of tho enemy's ears, fingers, teeth and too nails.
At Musio Hall To-morrow Evening. Mr. Alexander Salvini closed his senson at tho Grand Opera Honso last evening, where, for five weeks, ho has crowded the house nightly. Tho curtain descended on the Inst net of "Don Cmsnr do Bazan," but the audience remained and applauded until tho curtnin wns rnised nnd Mr. Snlvini forced to bow his acknowledgements. This performnnce wns repented three times, nnd tho audienco were so clamorous for a speech that when tho curtain was raised for the fourth time Mr. Salvini stopped to the footlights nnd with feeling snid: "LADIES

THE RESULT OF A TOOT.
John 0. Frainptou, a Piano Dealer. Lauds Behind the Bars of the County Jail. Last evening about 7 o'clock a good looking stranger entered tho tailoring establishment ol Swank A- Clark, nnd usked to purchase a pnir of pantaloons. A conversntion was struck up by Clnrk nnd the strnnger which resulted in tho strnnger purchasing a suit of clothes which had been mndo for another party who loft town without calling for them. Tho prico ngreed upon was S19,although it took considerable eloquence on the part of Mr. Clark to bring him up to this prico. Ho called for a chock on tho bank, aud when some blank checks on Elstoii's bank were presented lie signed one with tho name of John C. Frninpton. When about to leave the store ho purchased other nrticles to tho amount of S3 more, nnd then destroying tho check already made ho made a new ono for $22 and departed. He had represented himself as having a car load of horses nt Walter's stable, and at length Mr.Clarkbecomiug a little uneasy called at tho stablo and discovered that ho know uo such person as Frnmpton. The officials of Eiston's bank giving like information, Mr. Clark procured Officer Brothers and the two began to look for Frampton. Ho waB found in the Junction house, and when approached began at onco to make terms. He stated that if Mr. Clark would accompany him down tho track a couple hundred yards he would find a cousin who would cash tho chock. Ho also tried othsi little schemes presumably for the purpose of getting away, but it all ended in his being taken to the jail wliero ho is now. Frampton was very nervous this morning and at onco rotainod Judge Sellar as his at
torney, also telegraphing to his home in Columbus, Ohio, for his wire, and Mr. Ivors, of tho legal firm or Ball & Ivors. Frampton stated to

A Goal Famine.
Crawfordsville, along with the rest of tho country is suffering from a soft coal famine. While anthracite is plenty not a ton of tho soft variety can be purchased for lovo or money. Fred Sheetz has just returned from Cincinnati where he tried to buy a supply for use in the gas worts but that city has barely enough to last twenty days and thero was no surplus on tho market. Ho then went to big coal firm up tho Ohio river few miles aud they had not a bttshol of tho precious fuel. Tho reuse of tho famine in Cincinnati is on account of tho shallowness of the Ohio river. A short distance above Cincinnati it is said people aro fording it and consequently tho coal barges from Pittsburg, where most of Cincinnati's fuel comes from, are unable to travel. Prolonged strikes in West Virginia mines is another cause. Homo dealers cannot secure bituminous coal even from Indiana mines presumably because their output is all called for further east.
The Bigamist Got Away.
Wm. Williams, a fruit tree agent, was arrested at Covington the other day for bigamy. Ho escaped from custody yosterday and passed through Crawfordsville last evening on tho east bound accommodation train. Charley Borry was on tho train and at tho Junction pointed out Williams to Officer Huffman just as tho train was pulling out of tho station. Tho train was stopped but Mr. Huffman having no warrant failed to make an arrest nnd tho bigamist wont on his way rejoicing.

this morning that the wholo tiling resulted from his getting drunk. Said ho: "I am a musician and my business is to sell pianos. I buy them directly from tho manufacturers and trade them around the country for horses clnelly. I have been operating at Danville, 111., nnd yestordny came on to Greoncastle, where I began drinking. I was quite intoxicated upon arriving here, and when I wont into the tailor shop it was merely lo purchase pair of pan In. don't know how I came to purchase a suit and my mistake was in giving a check on tho bank here. If I had been sober I would havo made it on the second national bank of Richmond, Ivy., where I hnvo deposit, or on the first national bank of Columbus. I didn't know what I was doing. When they found me nt the Junction I wns waiting for my partner, Hinos, who was coming over from
Danville, 111., with Bomo horses. I hnvo been in tho piano business in Spriug field, 111., and also at 1202 Franklin avenue, St. Louis."
It is doubtful if the law can get good grip on Mr. Frampton. The charge ngninst him is obtaining goods under false pretenses, but ho already had tho suit of clothes on when ho made the check, so he did not get the goods by any pretonso at all. He will most likely goclear.
